There is some great sports related BS posted here, usually by Herbal, but today we have someone else stepping up to the plate! Let’s briefly analyze this hot take.
First, we will get the second statement out of the way, the Lakers HAVE INDEED sucked for many years now. They’ve been under .500 and have missed the playoffs in five straight seasons.
Now, let’s get to this part: “Luke Walton ____ would have Fired him Long Ago”
Luke Walton has been the coach of the Lakers for two seasons, so firing him “Long Ago” would have meant right after they hired him, which is a bad thing to do, as you throw millions of dollars away. Luke had coached the Golden State Warriors for half of their 73-9 season and he was a hot commodity at the time. The Lakers had just gone 17-65 under Byron Scott and here’s a former Laker, whose Dad was a huge star with UCLA, involved with coaching a team that ended up with the best regular season in NBA history. So they fire 17-65 Byron Scott and they hire Luke.
Granted, the Lakers roster sucked and still sucks. Red Auerbach and John Wooden couldn’t get these jokers over .500.
So how does Walton do? First season 26-56. 9 games better than the year before. The front office also gets cleared out, MID-SEASON, because the roster is so awful, and they bring in Magic Johnson to help fix things. He gives Luke Walton his backing.
Second season, still with an awful roster, the Lakers go 35-47, ANOTHER 9 GAME IMPROVEMENT.
So, let me ask, specifically when and why would you have fired Luke Walton? I mean besides the fact that he’s a “Barney”.
He's got a shitty lineup and is still improving in the wins category. Laker's are missing one, two, maybe even three star players that they've typically had in the past. That's not the deadhead's job, it's management's. Who even is their best player at the moment? I cringe at the possible responses.
Now that Magic has given himself a two year window to pull in those stars, let's see what happens when Luke actually has some talent to coach.
In other news.....Lebron's decision by July 4th has me thinking it's either the Cavs or the Lakers. Lakers offer him more potential to build his empire outside of basketball and it's said his wife wants to go there. Payton said Bronny is enrolled in school already and Lebron has two houses.
To Lebron's credit, making the decision early is smart business sense so that whatever team does get him has time to build around him/attract other players. Is he making it early so he can go get settled in LA?
With all this said, I think he's having a hard time saying good bye to the Cavs.
Is this what qualifies Luke? (and how many other Laker coaches were doofus wannabe-surfers, or ass-boarders or belly worms, aka Barneys?).
Walton had taken his coaching staff to a luxury hotel to go over schemes, swap drills and establish a coaching philosophy. The days were split into two three-hour sessions for three days. Work talk spilled over to dinner and beyond.
On the last day, Walton announced that he had arranged for surfing lessons for the entire staff

Since you’ve asked, your most recent BS was your take that the World Cup should have more countries involved so that more “Cinderella’s” could compete. 99% of the countries in the World (over 200) already compete in the excruciatingly long 2.5 year WC qualifying and Cinderella’s already do qualify, see Panama getting in while Italy, Holland, Chile, USA sit home and watch.

Lots of weak teams and aged or injured usual suspects, will get eliminated in prelims. Greater odds of a Cinderella sneaking through. The NCAA expanded from 32 to 68, and it has helped that tournament. I'm a UVA alum, so I don't say that easily.

It looks like I was stating the reality that the expanded field was a result of financial reasons. I wasn't stating a position for or against it. The "Cinderella effect" is just a residual from the expanded field.
I agree with you, and others in the WC thread, that the expanded field is unnecessary given the qualification process already in place.

It all comes down to how free agency plays out for the Lakes this off-season. If they don't woo LBJ and some other big fish, Magic's gonna split. I like young master Luke, but the deck will be stacked against him if they crap out in FA.
But back to the main point. OP is wrong. Luke has done fine coaching the Lakers so far. His GD tattoo is horrible but he’s probably done acid so there’s that too.
