On good display from this 4-3-22 Radio City Music Hall performance of Greatest Story Ever Told:

Those.were a fun couple of shows.  They played the full Ace album both nights, so this was the 2nd fun through for Greatest Stoy.  Barry is right there in the mix with Chimenti and the Wolfpack.  No Buddy Cage, but he'll do.  I liked when they played You Win Again with Tyler too.  Kid's got a good Honky Tonk voice.

Wolf Bros. tour, in smaller venues, should contrast nicely with the Dead & Co. farewell tour.

He is a solid pedal steel player for sure, but was really hoping when we saw the Wolf Bros that someone would  have handed the guy an electric guitar and let him fly for a least a couple songs.

^I certainly would have preferred that happening instead of the 2nd set John Mayer sit-in that we had at LA Greek.

absolutely stoked for barry to work with artists like tyler childers.

he had a brand new pedal at the nye show. it's got an inlayed wolf on it. said he just got it 3 days ago.

the common theme with barry sless on pedal steel is that everyone fucking loves it, when he busts out pedal steel during something like a DNB show it is a special occasion to be celebrated, but when bob or phil relegate him entirely to pedal steel, everyone who knows what he can do with an electric guitar just wants him to grab his guitar and take the band to the next level.

i love pretty much anything barry sless puts out

always great !

Sless on Pedal Steel is unique, he has his own sound and voice. There are not many that do.

If you like pedal steel and your in the Bay Area next week, Dave Easley is visiting from New Orleans.

He is very steeped in the Grateful Dead but prefers playing other genres.

Barry Sless IS TRULY Awesome ~   He Does THE WHEEL Justice From Many DNB Shows Plus I Absolutely Love PEDAL STEEL.

>>>>>Sless on Pedal Steel is unique, he has his own sound and voice. There are not many that do.

Pshaw.  There's plenty of pedal steel players with a unique voice.

Naysayer.

agreed, I don't really see y pedal steel would b much different than any other instrument in that regard

I like his facial expressions during pedal solos....he talks? I dunno but his mouth is all wow-waaaah-yaaaa

Easy Mark, I don't think anyone was "naying" the Hallowed Barry Sless. God forbid. I think it was a comment on the "there are not many that do" statement, and I agree with that comment; every steel player has their own "voice", as most all good musicians do.

But then this is the zone, where Barry Sless is revered above all, so it's not surprising that there would be some slap back on anything REMOTELY considered a critique of The Greatness that is Sless.

"The Greatness that is Sless">>>"Sless is More"

ha

I was just joking with Timmy Tom. I get it.

Good, let alone great pedal steel players are fare fewer in number compares to the dime-a-dozen guitarist. Within the idiom of the prdal steel, I think Barry particularly stands out. He has a very melodic sensibility that isn't straight country steel nor the dirty rock approach some take to differentiate themselves. Just my opinion.

Listen to Emmons, Paul Franklin, Ralph Mooney, Sneaky Pete, and Garcia and you will hear significant stylistic and tonal differences.
