The best gift you were ever given for the holiday?

Forums:

Mine was a Kawaskaki 50 cc motor cycle.  I was ten years old.  Man I loved that little motor cycle, and it was a real surprise.  We had seven milking cows.  I always helped do the milking.

My grandfather told me to start on the end stall.  I opened the gate, and there it was.  I road it until two in the afternoon.  Ran inside, and ate a very quick meal, and then road it until the

sun went down.  I miss those days.

A turntable so we can spin our vinyl copy of Rembrandt Pussyhorse.

So far this year, the best thing was how my sweetie got me tix for the White Album Christmas.  Always wanted to go and it was a gas.  Its an annual Portland thing at the Alberta Rose Theater featuring a note for note recreation of the White Album performed by a 15 person musical ensemble including horns and strings (they jammed out all the songs that fade out on the original album) and accompanied by a circus of various entertainers, including acrobats, belly dancers, a stunt bicyclist, and an old time cowboy clown doing bullwhip and lasso tricks.

Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas

My Lionel trains. I still run them for my niece and nephew.

I had lionel trains also.  We set it up on a ping pong table in the garage.  We had tracks up on stilts and everything.  That was the best train set, ever.  I still have in boxes in the garage, I should break them out one of these days.

Break them out now. You may be gone tomorrow.

The opportunity to surprise my mom on Christmas Eve for her last Christmas. One of the highlights in my life as she died four months later.

Luckily we have the surprise on video.

Sorry about your mother Slickrock.  I am happy you have the surprise on video.

I love model trains. Love. My dream is to create a G-gauge outdoor Garden Railway. That would be the best.

Slick, I remember when you went to surprise your mom and treasure the memory of reading your emails. Peace.

My sis told her someone from a nursery dropped off a tree. "Come into the garage."

I had my sister wrap me and while peeling away, my mom saw my face. Nearly gave her a heart attack. My face can do that to people. Here's a screen shot of her grabbing her chest,

Great memory.

My dad was obsessed with trains.  Built a house around a train room.   It was intense.    He was strictly Lionel but I drifted into z-guage for a while.   Now they are boxed up.

When my dad passed we had to sell his trains.  no one had the space for it.   I regret it.  I would take a do over if I could.   I gave my sons what we could handle and have built a small layout in the basement but it needs work.

I do like the idea of a g guage garden layout.   That stuff adds up but it wold be cool.

oh and my best christmas was probably when I got my first cd player and the picture disk without a net.    Someone stole that shit from me, the bastard.

Yes, Zang, the cost is a definite obstacle. Even G- gauge track is expensive. So, it will most likely remain a dream, and that's okay.

Wife got me 2007 Deluxe (American) Strat for Christmas 2 years ago, by far the best gift I've ever gotten. (How do I post pictures not the same ol \image{pic})

A bunch of years ago a coworker gave me a Yo-Yo. It was the best damn present I've received for years before or years since.

A few years ago my kids gave me some of that Gallium stuff, metal that melts in your hand. I love that.

For me, small toys that I can play with and have fun are all that I want.

Hey Slacker,

I realize that I am coming off as  prudish by making this request, but:

Can you please stop posting that photo of the Rembrandt Pussyhorse album cover?  Or at least save it for the next "Nasty Album Cover" thread that comes up?

I'm interested in checking out this thread and it kind of icks me out.  No offense to the female body.  On the contrary, but I'm the only male in my work group of 12 people and I'd like to check a few threads during my coffee breaks without having somebody see that over my shoulder.

Thanks,

John

Well shit BK I already have one of those.  Doesn't work very often, but it is there.

>>>>>Can you please stop posting that photo of the Rembrandt Pussyhorse album cover?

Sure.

I posted it one more time in Hoover's thread because everyone hates him and his threads.

Merry Christmas, Viva!

Thanks Slacker!

Best Christmas wishes to you and your family.

I also miss the Christmas with my whole family.  After my Grandmother died it all fell apart.  SAD Now it feels like just another day.  Of course my son and I celebrate the holiday.  Sometimes with my father and step mom.  Last year it was just my son and I.  Very depressing.  We ate beanie weenies, and yogurt.  J/K  But no it is really sad.  :(  The silver lining is that my son will have a family some day, and my  nieces and nephews are close to me.  Thus, a new tradition will begin.

Dude, that's my favorite from when I was a kid. Must have been 1974?

I've been helping out on a friends N scale train set up for over a year.

Never realized how much work they put into scenery etc.

Wish I still had my bike from Christmas past.

Sometimes, if she plays her cards right

I need to update mine....

My daughter just got accepted to the University and program that she really wanted to get into.  She is in tears she is so happy.

Best. Christmas. Ever.

Congratulations to your daughter, Thom. That would be great at any time of year.

Thanks Judit. Any parent knows what  great feeling this is.

Fisher rack stereo in '83.

Still use the speakers.

I always enjoyed the chemistry sets.

I got a blow job on top of the Oceanside cliffs at Point Reyes last year from the gf. Kicked ass.

I know you dislike me, but am happy to hear you got a hummer last year.  Possibly this year she will allow you to bring your early morning wood for the fire through the back door as a Christmas treat. No really good job on the blow job while watching the waves go in and out.  I like the way the cliffs swallow the waves.  Good work, and good luck this year.

This hockey game was a pretty nice gift, but not as cool as my metallic purple stingray bike with the banana seat.

The year I got a Cabbage Patch Kid - it was the year they were hot and couldn't be found anywhere. My non-procrastinator of a mom was on it and bought them for my sister and I before they were gone. Mine was named Katherine. 80s sometime?

Congrats to your daughter, thom!

congrats thom. that's great.

i have one as a jr/sr. and is enjoying it. my other is making close to my salary in HR at 23.

Thanks guys.  She's going to study animal science at one of the best programs in the country.  It's amazing to me that she has so much focus at her age. When I was 18 all I wanted to do was listen to Garcia play guitar.

30 years ago my parents gave me an internal frame back pack.  And that was it. The rest is history. Many Dead shows. A dozen countries thrown in the mix. And uncountable forests. Better than the gift was knowing that my folks recognised and supported my wanderlust.

I still use the pack. Repairs and all.

It's amazing to me that she has so much focus at her age. When I was 18 all I wanted to do was listen to Garcia play guitar.

That sounds pretty focused to me, Thom.

Well, it did get me to where I wanted to be!  wink

Best Gift this year was Mr. Hüsky hopping up on the foot of my bed this morning to keep my feet warm & say "Merry X-mas !!"

I love that Dawg devil

New Ferrari is cool too...

Oh wait, that was just a Dream.

Well i don't know about ever, but this year my daughter and i got a retro Atari with over 100 games and she is digging it big time!

Disco Stu why a Ferrari?  I would rather have several other cars.

The Red Ryder BB gun, and one of my nieces was born on Christmas eve.  She is now living in New York.

Today my wonderful sister and her family gave me an beautiful poem by Robert Hunter entitled "The Apocalypse", singed by the man himself.

This ranks very high on my list of great gifts.

I was told 2 days ago that I do NOT have lymphoma :) !!!   *** Best present EVER ***   I breathed a big sigh of relief after waiting for results ( 32 tubes of blood at one sitting and numerous radiology studies, good thing i work in radiology...I guess)  as the docs really had me worried...ughh !

My tumor has come back in mouth, Can't get into specialist till after new years...soo not stressing and staying positive on that one :)

Bout time we got some good news Lynn. Sending healing vibes!

More years with mom in 2010. She found out on 12/22 that they had found a compatible bone marrow donor. I'll forever be grateful to that anonymous person from Germany. For me, it won't get better than that!

And awesome news Lyn. So happy for you!!
