Best Picture

Forums:

So every year during my Winter down time I try to watch all of the Best Picture nominated films and so far i've watched:

Arrival
Hidden Figures
Hacksaw Ridge
Fences
Moonlight
Manchester By The Sea
Lion

I still have yet to see Hell Or High Water and LaLa Land (which I really have no desire to see). Unfortunately Rogue One didn't make the cut so my pick for Best Picture is between Lion, which was a stellar flick and Hidden Figures but Lion is a truly great film and I really hope it wins.

So fellow movie nerds....what was your favorite film of 2016?

You rock!

I haven't seen any!

LALA Land must be something else

Manchester By the Sea looks interesting

I haven't seen any of them, either. Of those, Hidden Figures is the one I've heard the most about and would see if I were going to the movies.

A movie I really want to see is The Eagle Huntress. I hear that it's visually stunning and stirring to the soul. It's no longer playing here, so I'm waiting until it's on Netflix or something.

Hell or High Water is fantastic

Good to know Fishcane. I have been waiting for it to pop up on the streaming site I use.

All of the others i've watched via DVD Screener from there

It's on Amazon if it doesn't pop up soon i'll just rent it from there.

Heard Moonlight was amazing. La La Land is apparently the whitest movie ever made.

just watched Arrival last night, I'll be watching it again

it definitely will be messing with my head for awhile

big thumbs up for the whole thing

bet when I see it again it'll take a little magic off it, but stillArrival-1_0.jpg

La La Land is the only nominated picture I've seen, so I can't say which is best. I don't usually go to the movies, but wanted to see that one on the IMAX screen. I enjoyed it. It is an homage to LA and to old Hollywood.  It has a lot of location shots I enjoyed - including the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach (where Cubensis plays regularly) and the Griffith Observatory.  There are obvious tributes to Rebel Without a Cause and Singin' in the Rain.

it is pretty white, but John Legend is the second male lead and the players and audience in the jazz club scenes are mixed.  The soundtrack is enjoyable. City of Stars is a good, catchy pop song.

agree with Cane... Hell or High Water is a great motion picture
