"Phil Lesh & Friends w/ Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Steve Kimock & John Molo"
In some ways it seems like last week, in other ways it seems like 50 years ago. Ultimately, I suppose 25 seems about right.
The discussion has been made often enough about when "Phil Lesh & Friends" really began, but it's hard to argue that Phil's dedicated touring group using a rotating cast of musicians that we've all come to know and love began on this date 25 years ago.
Either way, it sure was a hell of an emotional night, starting with Phil stepping out healthy in front of the curtain with his young sons and Kimock to sing hello to old friends, and then immediately showing us all that IT wasn't dead with a blazing 35-minute Viola.
Overall, it was an epic three-night run spent with my best friends in the best seats at my favorite venue, listening to my favorite music performed by my favorite musicians, and at least for me it was the beginning or perhaps the reigniting of something truly great, something that is still going.
Still going on it's 84-year-old legs, maybe running on fumes now, but Phil Lesh & Friends is still going 25 years later.
And Grateful Dead music in general? I'm now convinced that is going to live on forever.
And that's far out.

I wasn't going to this but the day before the show someone gave me a ticket....
Great way to open the show in front of the fabled Warfield curtain, then that massively long Viola...
I remember thinking after that, "what the fuck are they gonna do, a three-song first set??"
Solid show.
Glad I was in the house.
