According to reports, they got in deep to many networks/ systems. The timing of this disclosure is intriguing.
[Two unnamed sources told the outlet that the hackers entered U.S. systems through updates released by SolarWinds, a software company based in Austin, Texas that also provides services to the White House, Pentagon and NASA, according to their website. Additionally, the company provides services to the country's leading telecommunications providers, as well as "more than 425 of the U.S. Fortune 500."]

This is turning into a big
This is turning into a big deal.
As I understand it, someone had "God" rights (above admin) to a whole bunch of networks -- as the backdoor was an update to network monitoring software. Every company and government agency that used this common tool has been compromised since springtime.
The only good news is that the intruders had access to so many corporate and government files, that they don't think the hackers could physically have the time to steal everything.
But if you ever worried that a rival country could hack into everything, map everything, see//copy data and potentially cause lots of chaos -- welcome to that world. It sounds like it's a few steps above the "shutting down the power grids" threat.
Great...just one more thing to worry about.

And with what we know about ccp control/money over our national media I personally don't think it's a stretch to assume the biased media would paint the narrative that it was russia..since they have hinted so often that Trump and Putin are working together.
..and Orange Man Bad, so even though the election is over they are keeping the pressure up through the jan 5 Georgia runoff election which will decide everything.

Holy fuck, Greg, get a damn grip. That article does not explain hows it was more likely to be China. All the way at the bottom, all it says is this: "Russia was the most likely culprit, though China and perhaps others are potential candidates."

It really doesn't matter what
It really doesn't matter what entity did this, the fact is someone has had the keys to all the vaults. For a while.
That gives them quite advantage in the international arena. Financial, political, even medical.
People all over the world have been hung for a lot less in the world of espionage.
This is Tom Clancy fiction type stuff... but it's real.

Sure the CIA is up to the
Sure the CIA is up to the same type of shenanigans.
My sister works for an international consulting firm and one of their clients is attempting to negotiate an eight figure deal for some development project in China. Apparently, the deal is in danger of falling apart over the issue of cyber security. The details are a little over my head, but the long and short of it is the Americans are demanding a completely self contained computer system that has no connection whatsoever to Chinese servers, which is something the Chinese are insisting upon for the project to happen.

Stu - I can wrap my head
Stu - I can wrap my head around your "propaganda is everywhere" shtick, but can you explain why this admin would point the finger at Russia if it's not the case?
Or do you really believe that if a tree falls in the forest and you didn't personally experience it, not only did it not make a noise, it never happened? (That's an old philosophy dating back to the Greeks, at least.) Are you content going through life only knowing what's in your own personal bubble?
"This was a very significant effort, and I think it’s the case that now we can say pretty clearly that it was the Russians that engaged in this activity," he added.
Pompeo is the first major Trump administration official to attribute the hack directly to Russia, though the sophisticated large-scale attack has widely been presumed to be tied to the country.

"...going through life only
"...going through life only knowing what's in your own personal bubble?.."
So if we all are already aware that --
A: Intelligence agencies / feds run all media
B: Same actors + corporations have 'back doors' in every level of computer hardware and software
It's a logical assumption or premise that any media outlet can say anything suiting that day's agenda, as most people believe whatever they say. So although I don't really care what other people think, I acknowledge that most people form their belief system upon spoon-fed mass media culture.
Now, if I were in the religion or politics industries, I would be concerned how / what other people think. There's no profit or loss to me if you believe "People ate Bat Soup in China and spread Corona Virus" or "Saddam had WMD" or whatever absolute BS from mass media.
Feel free to think whatever you like. I don't make any money if you believe in Batman or Reagan or Selassie or Flipper.
