Big Tree Down

Forums:

Oh man, the giant redwood named "pioneer cabin" blew over in the wind storm a few days back.

the famous tunnel tree. I'm pretty sure a zoner or two has driven thru this baby. sad to see it down.

sigh...

Ya know, I've seen reports of that here, some say 'Giant Sequoia' but no doubt it's an iconic Tree.

I suppose there will be a lot of debate within the FS or BLM or whichever agency runs that area, what to do with it? How to preserve the legacy?

If I ran the place, I would take some of the tops, mill it into structural lumber and construct a few shrines toward that particular Tree; visitor-friendly spaces with historical photographs over the decades. Local craftspersons could build rustic benches from the choice joints among the upper limbs. They could get hundreds of thousands in go-fund-me cash to pay the craftspeople for their time and effort.

Meanwhile, decide what to do with the massive trunk/stump. Why not turn it into a Tree History Museum ?? Thing is huge. Stabilize some portions with rock or concrete, and make it into a tourist attraction with educational aspects.

Not to be confused with tunnel tree in sequoia national park, that is already blown over.  Haha

wawona tree in Yosemite topppled in 2012.

There's nothing you can hold for very long

The drive thru tree in Leggett (Mendocino County) still exists.

That's what I'm calling jon3.  But just giddy fun for massive amounts of pow.  Let the dogpile begin.  Mammoth closed for the first time in 6 years the other day.
