The divided court ruled that the 83-year-old comedian — who has served more than two years of a three-to-10-year sentence — had been denied a fair trial, citing an agreement struck with a previous prosecutor that the justices said barred Cosby from ever being charged with the 2004 assault of Temple University employee Andrea Constand.
Justice David N. Wecht, writing for the majority, said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele was legally bound by that decade-old promise and therefore should not have brought charges when new evidence surfaced in 2015.
Vacating Cosby’s conviction, Wecht said, “is the only remedy that comports with society’s reasonable expectations of its elected prosecutors and our criminal justice system.”
Seems like a pretty obvious mistake by the prosecutors.
It's odd that they didn't see that coming, and it's odd that it took so long for Cosby's release if his damning statement was given under the original agreement of no prosecution.
Sure looks like an epic bungle on the DA's part.
During the OJ deal all those years ago, a lawyer friend used to say that good defense attorneys got A's in law school, DA's got C's.
Epic bugle by the DA is an understatement. In a high profile case, with 60 victims, witnesses, and a defendant with a bottomless checkbook, how the hell could they have made such a stupid procedural error?
The ire on this one shouldn't be towards, Cosby, his lawyers or the system itself.

He felt comfortable enough drugging and raping women, and more than likely he assumed no one would ever believe the victims due to who he was.
It seems with the Me Too movement that men of any race who have lots of money, power and influence simply can't keep their dick to themselves. Very happy they have been exposed for the POSs that they truly are and congrats to the victims who were brave enough to go through reliving their trauma, along with coping with the virtually guaranteed onslaught of disbelievers.
