Billy and Billy

...maybe they're opening for WolfBros in CO on that early June run. That ad ran in last night's WolfBros stream as well as this one:

Oooh

Some continuity issues with that video.

B&B is very intriguing. Toss one of those message bottles in an Atlantic current. I'll be lookin down on the Chesapeake Bay shore to find it.

I hope they retrieved that bottle from the Ocean after Billy through it in...

Billy S. retrieved it in CA.

>>>B&B is very intriguing.

The ONLY announcement in recent memory that has peaked my interest.

My heart sinks a bit knowing I probably won't be able to catch anything.

That hasn't happened in a long time.

Still waiting, man Hawaï 's way out there!

lol. I could have sworn that Billy K's joint was red and his bottle plastic.

Don't use those dyed papers, Billy!

Billy Strings picked up Billy's message in a bottle and burned the joint.  Video was on Strings Instagram, This should be fun!!

Whoops...sorry Mike.  Didn't see your post

Billy K is gonna have eat his Wheaties is all I can say. I've been watching Strings for a few years now and his talent and band seem to be about as hot an act that we have seen come along in a very long time. Sticking to his roots and what his Dad schooled him on. My opinion only of course. The HI party will be fun.

Yes, that kid can play.  It'll be interesting to hear how BK approaches this project.

Not a tour

Did anyone else click the play button on Zooey's most recent pic?

If there is a way to embed videos on Viva, I don't know it!

The video is the same message in a bottle video.

Cool! In the Relix announcement, Billy K was quoted saying something like, "I am in a mood to give, not take" so the streams are FREE, right?!? (.....lol)

Bummer. I was hoping for a collaboration centered around just them (and Stings's band) getting adventurous and doin a little tour.

just a Bill & Friends show? in Hawaii? (I'll probably be sleeping when it gets goin.)

Happy Bday crazy man.

Hope the kid can handle Billy K's hallucinogens.

No audience or tickets available like the TRX shows!??

What will it be like a Weir TRI show recorded hours before?

fuggetaboutit.jpg

It should be live, 8:00pm on the east coast is 2:00pm in Kaui. Weir has been live the last two TRI shows, only the NYE show was pre-recorded.

Mother's Day

hilarious!

IMO .. good for both of them ...

Hummm, special guest indeed.

Taken at rehearsal today.

I might just have to buy in for one of these...

Wholey shit I pictured that colab bout a week ago

Damn.  Wish  I didn't have to work.

Was just reading rumors that the shows were prerecorded, due to the crappy / inconsistent internet out there. Filmed, edited, etc (Jay Blakesberg was there for 12 days, but he just left for home)

Pre-recorded or live, it's all on video so what difference does that really make?

I figure I'm suckered in to buying one night, with the ability to watch it for a few days after.

Like all these other streams this past year it will likely be underwhelming, but what the hell, it's Carlos!

I think these boys are , or did have a lot of fun,and deserve a bit of money I'm going for all  three nights, plus A t shirt, plus a frisbee, plus international shipping, all this at 1/2 the price of my last stones tickets! Jam on kids, play some DOORS for us

No one does the O Face quite like Carlos.

I don't mind pre-recorded especially with the time difference challenges and they're hopefully sidestepping technical difficulties that would buzzkill bigtime. Bill Nershi is there too if that matters to anyone.

I'm pretty sure that it's live......

I think green-haired soul might have just eclipsed the blue-eyed kind.

That was a hot show. I'm really glad I bought in for the weekend. Can't wait to see what they have in store for tomorrow and Sunday.

Much potential

I wasn't going to pay for the stream, but had a series of shit to bizarre things happen today, so said fuck it, went for it, made a proper drink, and loved it once they got relaxed and dove into it!

Much potential

Where's Carlos? Happy Birthday Billy

BMFS tickets just became exponentially more difficult to obtain.

Cant wait to hear Carlos and the Billies tackle SHAKEDOWN STREET.... looks like a whole lot of fun

Thanks Joe fur the rest!

What a great thread. Great music, great posters, lots of joy. Thank you all.

Watched second set and there was not a fuckin thing wrong with that show.

Brings joy to my heart knowing kids like Billy Strings will carry on such important music for everyone to enjoy.

The only thing I didn't like about the stream last night is that it ended.

PS Billy Strings plays electric fairly often, so it's not like his fans would be mad about it all of the sudden.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQlRP_iDS2g&fbclid=IwAR0oc6DhPv-hFdAmm0P...

I hear you, Dise, but the scene during the end credits of Kreutzmann sitting in a chair with a hand drum at sunset was pretty sweet, I thought.

Excellent show.  so glad we could see it!

Really looking forward to tonights sets, last night was great!

Bobby's recent shows have been grate, really arranged and somewhat polished for dead tunes, very slow and loungy, but they've become so schmaltzy the slow tempos are starting to work for me.

Billy rocked it last night, fast / perfect tempos, everyone listening and still going for it, great rock and roll dead last night, jams were spacey but high energy, grate stuff!!!

And we still get to hear Carlos with this group, Woot!!!

Show taken down already by Relix

I'll admit I was a little harsh yesterday about the show as I only saw one song. The last of the first set before they cut off the free preview.

Watched some of the link posted above of the whole show and some of it was pretty good. I liked Crazy Fingers.

But Tom Hamilton still annoys me!

A random person jumps on stage, grabs Toms mic, and rants...   when watching live they showed a bit of it, here it's edited out

Tom Hamilton strikes me as the guy at the party in the center of the living room who's always got the "best" story about everything, every time. While he bogarts the coke tray.

I think you'd find Billy Strings in the kitchen doing shots until he sheepishly puked in the sink.

Both are talented musicians, but I think I'll hang in the kitchen... maybe rummage thru the cabinets and find Strings a wet washcloth.

T-Ham is headlining at Frost Amp without Santana or Strings. He's the best at what he does.

So...did Carlos sit in on tonight's stream. Inquiring minds would love to know. Thanks.

didn't he used to wear a cap?

Eli...no Carlos tonight

Thanks very much, Dise.

There's a full version of the Friday on the yootoobses.  If on Roku, keep scrolling right until you see a thumbnail with nearly two-hour time stamp.  That's the one.  Then watch it while you can.

I like THam just fine.  Hoping Reed Mathis plays some weird shit through his FX.  I liked him for about three years with no idea who he was (festival sets).

I know it's stupid, but every time they show the keys player, I think, "Kevin Smith looks good."  Just for a sec.

Just something about hearing that warm Les Paul tone that makes it sound Allman-y. Can't wait to see what Carlos brought to the table.

TH is like Allison Krause is for me. Both are clearly talented people who are probably super nice. I really like their singing. Thing is after about three or four songs their voices sound redundant and bug the shit out of me.

I totally get that, Dise. Emmylou Harris is that way for me.

I have no problem with TH. For me, though, my only criticism of this band is that TH and the sax have almost the same tone, and it's maybe too much of a good thing. Maybe less of him singing would be more balanced?

Oh yeah, I don't exactly have a problem with him so much as I just prefer his singing in small doses.

Last night's show (audio) is just now starting on GDRadio.net

Thanks Bud

any links to 5-8 show?

Love all of this music - the sax on crazy fingers is perfection

Live, taped, cut edited, I don't care it sure is making our Mothers Day weekend even better

Happy Birthday Billy and thanks for sharing it with us.

It looks like they add another Billy tonight, Bill Nershi.

how cool is that?! I'm happy for all these talented musician to get a nice vacation in Kauai. And just a tad jealous.

>any links to 5-8 show?

yes, but not gonna make it easy for the resident ratfink to get them shut down.

$25?

5-8 no more difficult than 5-7.

Search deep; not wide.

Mahalo.

Do they call them Shoe-bies in Hawaii?

Billy the K gasping for air on some of these.   :)

Overall this is a very well put together band.   Love Billy S. enjoying the sax, all smiles.   (see Midnight Moonlight)

If I was nitpicking I'd stay away from the bassist and keyboardist singing, but...yeah, nitpicking.   I'd love to see this band.

Pretty sure everyone but Barracco has crapped the bed the first time (I saw them sing) Let It Grow off a 'Promp-Ter, so I cut Keys Guy some slack for that.

Sounds like they're winging what harmonies they are doing.  Still a better blend than Ratdog ever hadcheeky

This lineup could definitely move some asses in person.

i see why people are on the billy strings movement.  shit damn on all 3 sides.

nice to see carlos in a not his stage act setting. and yes CRUSHED the china doll.

i've spent a worse $30 bucks.

happy birthday billy k!

Just thinking of how lites would have loved this.

It hurts me too was Awesome !  I sure enjoyed this sunday prerecorded birthday Show. It's funny, been seeing carlos for years and lately it occurs to me he'd throw in a little Doors...should of let bs sing though, yeah that nitetime joint scene was alot of fun kinda like those pit fires at terrapin,Real nifty is bud leagal in Hawaï !.?but yeah hurts me too is already famous! Nite nite Zonahs 5 oclock in France

So many highlights tonight, but the one I'm going to try to find right away to replay was the TOO > Schoolgirl >TOO segment. That was monstrous. It's amazing that seven people can achieve that kind of sync in a one-off. Powerful, powerful stuff.

The acoustic scene was really sweet too. I thought that was a great way to wrap up a weekend filled with stellar music. It might have been pre-recorded and virtual, but I was dancing hard for a while there tonight.

Here's the free tease (that was a lot of fun!)

Scarlet > Iko

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ3Mc-UZvGE

I'll throw in $2 for Turtle.

My favorite part I saw. The acoustic ending. Nershi and Strings make a good combo.

https://youtu.be/3RSlfO2IecE

There was a real spark this weekend. Thoroughly enjoyable music and chemistry. I'd see this over DeadCo any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

This was pretty stimulating. The best streamed performance by a GD member in a long while.

Bill is one Skinny Billy nowadays.

Nice to see a a bit of his HI property after all these years. Not toooooo shabby.

>>>>Nice to see a a bit of his HI property after all these years. Not toooooo shabby.

A long way from 710 and we just want to live a free uncluttered life. Ha!

Worse than their parent's ever footprint on life!

I believe the outdoors portion was filmed at a local farm.

But agreed, great set, great tempos, old fashioned Dead style rock and roll...   raw in the good way, and the clams were appreciated (with D&C I cringe on the clams, lol).

Phil and Billy definitely keeping the tradition alive (be cool if they could kiss and make up, lifes too short)

I loved loved loved the first 2 nights. 3rd night was good.. I'm just not a Santana fan, with this music.

'All this negative shit'

Such as?

Social media being social media...

I'm not sure, Nancy. I just pulled the pic from Reddit. I assume young Mr. Strings made the mistake of reading internet posts about the shows this weekend, and was surprised to discover that there's dissension among deadheads. His new pal Billy K should've warned him.

Usually he posts as William Apostol but ok

Ok grabbed the audio of 5/7 where's 5/8, and 5/9¿Thanks zonahhhs and lma Awesome we

Don't believe the bad things they say about you, Billy.

Because if you do; you'll probably believe the good things they say as well.

JM seems to be losing the race for the new DeadCo heart throb

Alan, Mayer's face fits so seamlessly, it's almost scary, stubble and all.

Billy on the other hand looks kinda like Pete Davidson after a particularly rough night out on the town with a teen heartthrob.

Has T-Ham invited Billy to guest at Frost?

I hear they're going steady now, Slack, and with Billy K's approval, so who knows what we can expect of the jamband world's newest power couple? Only great things, I'm sure.

Pretty sure Strings isn't ditching his bluegrass band to be fake Mayer in deadco lite.

You might be right, but isn't deadco lite a redundancy?

Look at Mike edwards, rallying the troops for another zoom puff and tuff.

Racket...are you as miserable you come across here?

Racket's not just choosing misery today; apparently he's decided to stop making sense too.

Nershi and Strings Fall acoustic duo tour!

I would go!

Leftover tour

I was fortunate to be able to see / hear this rendition:

SCI feat. Billy Strings - "Black Clouds" - DelFest 2019

I really liked what Billy Strings added to Billy K's birthday celebration shows and the kid can really rip it on e-guitar as well (obviously).

That being said - and I have no idea of his status or persuasion(s) thereof - but he should try to get a date with Billie Eilish....I dunno - for some reason they would seem to have some chemistry.

Billy Strings looks pretty booked up for the rest of the year

But how many dead songs is he going to play on tour? The Phans need to know.

Ned do you have 2$ to throw in the bucket?

Imagine Billy strings tryin to keep up with bobby's teeeeeemmmmmmppppppoooo

Geez you guys, can't people just have fun playin' music and branch out and do new things? Dang.

I first saw Billy Strings at Targhee in August of 2018 and then a few times (at least 3) since when he came to Salt Lake. Just freaking amazing. He's been mixing in a Dead tune here and there, but earlier this year, Billy did a six-night run at the Capitol Theatre in February to commemorate the Dead's 6 night run 50 years ago. His interest in the Dead's music is well-known and has blossomed. I don't think Billy Strings needs to earn any additional pedigree to continue his exploration, just 'cause some folks are late to the party and unaware of his past association.

Obviously he wants to honor their music. Sounds like he just wants to have fun, and not hear a lot of BS, from his fans or others.

He's a young lad, and I imagine he'll be heading back to his bluegrass roots with occasional forays like this for S & G's. Looking forward to the future endeavors. The sky's the limit. Actually, space!

Enjoy it all!!! Peace out!

From the release in January -

FANS and The Relix Channel on Twitch have partnered with Billy Strings for ‘The Deja Vu Experiment,’ a six-night livestream event that will take place at Port Chester, N.Y.’s legendary Capitol Theatre. The streams will take place Feb. 18-21, 23 and 24. The dates were chosen to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s February 1971 performances at the venue, which took place on the same exact dates.

At the shows in 1971, the Grateful Dead conducted ESP Experiments, which consisted of “prompting Deadheads in the audience to focus on imagery shown by the band and telepathically send the imagery to a test subject.” (Quote via the event’s description.) A virtual version of such an experiment will be conducted during ‘The Deja Vu Experiment.’

The first and final nights of the event (Feb. 18 and 24) will be streamed for free on The Relix Channel on Twitch. The remaining nights (Feb. 19-21, 23) are available for pay-per-view on FANS. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Rex Foundation and to Backline.

“The Grateful Dead’s 6-night run of shows at The Capitol Theatre in February 1971 were a singular event in the 95-year history of the theater,” said Capitol Theatre owner and Relix publisher Peter Shapiro. “In 1971 the theater hosted Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton and a who’s who of American rock and roll legends, but it was the Dead’s run of shows that Winter that came to define the theater’s legacy.”

“We have been thinking for a while about how best to mark the 50th Anniversary of those iconic shows,” Shapiro continued. “Obviously we can’t celebrate with us all together but the virtual livestream technology does feel fitting given that the original 1971 shows experimented with ESP and in an effort to expand human connections and the music experience. Inviting Billy to perform the same 6-dates (Feb 18-24) that the Dead played in 1971 was in our mind from the beginning, more than a year ago. He personifies the idea of taking genres of music like Bluegrass and Rock and Roll and pushing their boundaries into new areas, in a similar way that Jerry Garcia did 50 years ago. I am super excited for what is going to happen, it feels like a good moment to have a Deja Vu Experiment.”

If anyone needs the auds of these shows,  PM me

Are we allowed to comment on the quality of the music?  I mean no one attended the show and I know if you weren't there you can't possibly tell how good or bad a show was.

Because it was an outdoor show, I believe the "listening to a stream isn't the same as being in the room" standard has been waived.

No one was sitting there commentating on the streams.  Therefore no need for any back and forth.  There was quality music being made.  Otherwise no need to run any douche mouth.

listened to some of the second day also. pretty good showing for sure. pleasantly surprised.

Hey Timmy!

I'm having a good time listening to the 5/8 show while folding laundry, etc.  Not a bad way to spend a Monday evening.

>>>I know if you weren't there you can't possibly tell how good or bad a show was<<<

It's good to know you finally figured that out Timmy.

With age comes wisdom.

And of course you can comment on the music you heard from the stream.

Personally, I have no comment because I got bored very quickly, as I almost always do with streams & recordings.

As always, if you don't go, you don't know.

Just read that Mike and was getting ready to make a thread and saw this.  GREAT article.
