Zooey, you are magic.

Headlines

Sorry, there are no Billy and the Kids headlines.  A X S now

If true, this show would fill the spot of the cancelled Rainbow Kitten Surprise w/ Mark Lanegan.
The SCI run happens a few days afterwards.

^ they're actually in Dillon on the 13th and 14th

This would be sweet, but I'm doubtful I could pull it off.

Oh yes. I have some SW miles save for this..

I'm intrigued.  Who's got my extra?

Is this thing on?

It's been silent for a while. No bueno.

Officially announced.

Bill and the Kids.jpg

Nice Ken! After seeing the Hawaii shows, I really want to go to this.

THUNDER worked....ALL IN.

Looking for 2...

I'm trying to keep my temper about the AXS ticketing system and app, but THEY SUCK

One time in Seattle the app failed and I missed the first 30 minutes of a show.

Public on sale tomorrow at 10am MDT.

People looking for tickets might post in the Ticket folder; people look and post there who don't get into O.S.

I won't be attending due to my musical tastes becoming more refined over the years.  However, wish those that do a good time.

With the exception of the first few rows, is this all GA?

^^^ Yes, Red Rocks is all GA except rows 2-4.
Take a tarp / blanket and wear sturdy shoes for running down steps without crashing.

Momma scored today

My friend said they keep changing the rules and now  rows 1-10 are reserved seating

I think you miss the magic of Red Rocks if your in the first 20 rows. Aim for the the rows that have a view over  Stage Rock. The last row during GD Drums was also a favorite.

I'd like to take that Red Rocks ride again, this might be that show...

^^^agree ... I like just above the sound board...(only because I enjoy watching the sound techs) it's also a fun place to float around to catch the sound and views from different spots...

Walstib I'm heading to IA now, see you in an hourish .

AXS still sucks, was able to select tickets at 9:01 and got "none available"

Scalpers, there were resales available..

They just added a Monday show

Second show has been added for July 12! Tix on sale tomorrow, as if AXS' lame ticket system will change overnight, LOL

Yep, I just refreshed to start all over and now the top resale price is $695

I also responded to Billy's post on Twitter, tagged Red Rocks and AXS about the lame ticketing system and that there is price gouging happening if resale tickets appeared within seconds after 9AM ...  There is a way to report them to the FCC... need to look that up again.

Encouraging anyone who is on Twitter to flame AXS over their ticketing system--- they need to be pressured by fans to do better.

Is Red Rocks at full capacity?

I've never scored tix on AXS.  No matter which show, always sold out, no tix available, in 1-2  mins.  But through DSO site, got red rocks tix for 7.5 face value, $45.  D&C over $500 at Fid Grn, sorry but 'No Way'.  Phil's BD weekend, all 3, under $100/ea per nt.  And Melvin's JGB at TXR, $55.  Sweet... AXS sucks...

Red Rocks is back to full capacity I hear.

Yes, full capacity. 9500+/-

Yes, back to full capacity beginnning June 21!

stubhub 2 tix= $225 fees incl

compared to what folks were paying for 1 set of PL + family

a good deal...

Your Covid concert relativity may  vary...

Cashortrade has a tix alert for 7-14...

a third nite TBA?

Red Rocks is already booked 7/14.

ok thx

mass shooting required at AXS

capitalism?

is the Mob in it?

the artists own a piece of this

I just sent AXS screenshots that show that I had tickets in my cart, with checkout button activated, and the 2nd shot shows the checkout screen saying "tickets aren't available"

Wish I had more time to give them hell, are there any Zoner retirees with more time on their hands who can help apply pressure?

The Greensky Bluegrass 3 pack in September looks interesting with Lukas Nelson/CATS/RRE...

^^^RRE and Greensky at Red Rocks would be a really fun show at RR

Nancy...both bookends are, um, booked.

Gotcha. Still trying to work out logistics if I fly in for a quickie..

Wish I could go. Hoping there's a webcast.

bill_2.jpg

I got tix for 7/12. Very stoked.

tix in the cart and no way/icon to pay for them...

wtf?

I found it helpful to log in before getting in line. CC info all loaded up.

Updated my account/ logged in/got in line/added tix to cart/ no complete sale icon...

whatever, my first AXS meltdown

seems like a big club

good on you you nedb was hoping to hang in the innie top lot...

Walstib... keep trying... others are having the same issues, so they time out and will have to restart their session.
Good luck.

I have a gold membership on Cash or Trade, which means I get alerts before the tickets for resale get posted... happy to help any Zoner by posting an ISO alert on your behalf.

I want four to hang with my daughters

nevermind...

in

I had to:

1) check the box to NOT insure tix

2) add CCV from back of card

3) select delivery method

Breathe...good luck to all. These shows are gonna COOK.

Welcome to the innie top-lot WALSTIB!! Let's have a beer(s).

Ha

nedb, we've met

during the Cali-Colorado Pham Zoner cold wars...

Where/when did we meet? My brain is mostly mush.

BK made a point of saying it wasn't a tour announcement so I'm guessing if you want to see B2&TK this is going to be it for awhile. I'd totally go but my CC is practically on fire from all the festival tickets I bought last month.

Good luck to those looking for tickets and have a blast at RR!

maybe RR PLF 09

possibly even jazzfest with Zoner Sinatra?

Perhaps (not jazzfest)...but I think you're thinking of someone else :)

ok then

new friends to be made...

Cash or trade came through!

I'm just reading this thread, and I'm a bit surprised that there's so much enthusiasm around here and apparently in general for these shows. Am I reading this thread correctly, that two full capacity Red Rocks shows totally sold out in moments, for this band?

I get that Billy Strings is popular, is he THAT popular? Is he the reason everyone is so excited about this group?

I like all the players, but isn't this "just another Grateful Dead cover band?"

I'd consider seeing them if they played close by, but to travel?

Good luck to those who care.

Lance, listen to the Hawaii shows from Billy's birthday. That's is the reason everyone is so excited about this group, they sound fantastic.  Plus it is RR post COVID lockdown, a lot of pent-up demand for live music. https://youtu.be/Hm0AlXdoRZk

"...if they played close by, but to travel?"

...to be fair, according to Mapquest, the farthest you ever traveled to see Garcia was an hour and twenty four minutes.

     6FAA4635-A414-4290-8932-A4ACA9EE0499.jpeg

Creepy Bryen is even creepier.

I didn't mean to creep you out Michael, I do recall Lance mentioning the farthest he ever traveled to see Jerry play guitar was Cal Expo...I was just trying to bring some context to the discussion.

     https://youtu.be/ucBESuXuidY

No you weren't.

...it seemed relevant to the conversation

Billy Strings never saw Jerry.

I recall Lance saying he went to shoes at MSG. Of course, he may have traveled by airplane, and not mooched his way across the country along I-80, but that shouldn't be considered a demerit.

If he flew to NYC then I stand corrected, thanks for the clarification.

If Melvin were playing Morrison that would be fun, Billy Stings...I don't know, yeah I suppose that would be a fun evening.

Lance, it is definitely the Billy Strings addition, for sure (a true "Special Guest"!).

Billy's popularity is growing daily. He is a very good flat-picker, song writer and entertainer. Watching him play with Billy K. in Hawaii showed he can rip GD songs on an electric guitar. He won't be doing this anywhere else this summer, nor with Billy K. After sampling some of the Wolf Bros. recordings from last week, this will be turbo-charged tempos and can go anywhere through the catalog. But, yes, just another GD cover band :)

Hey well it sure beats Andy Frasco's Dance Party in your living room for the last year, LOL.

I get that Billy Strings is popular, is he THAT popular? Is he the reason everyone is so excited about this group?

Yes. Abs he's a one in a generation player that channels energy and soul in his playing like the rarified few.

I like all the players, but isn't this "just another Grateful Dead cover band?"

Yes,  but an extremely good one with an edginess missing in others but still having a lot of heart abs soul.

I'd consider seeing them if they played close by, but to travel?

If I didn't already have other i changeable plans I would have bought tickets in a heartbeat

I did listen to quite a bit of the Hawaii music and I thought it was very solid, but there are quite a few bands that play the GD catalog very solidly who I wouldn't expect to blow out Red Rocks in a day. I'm not even that surprised that a good Billy K. band with a popular young guitar player could sell out two nights at a 9,000+ iconic venue, I'm just surprised they sold out instantly.

Clearly, people are hungry for live music. Far out.

And don't get me wrong, I have no problem with any of it, except if people are getting shut out or gouged. I'm all for anything Grateful Dead related doing well, as it's another example of how uniquely brilliant the Grateful Dead were.

Good luck to all those wanting to go to the show.

Let's face it: Billy Strings is the new Justin Bieber of the jamband / jamgrass set.... that certainly helped the sell-out (besides the ticket bots).

> Billy Strings is the new Justin Bieber of the jamband / jamgrass set

Eeewww. Is not. lol

^^^winklaugh

Heads up to those who are making the trip: The MLB All-Star game is July 13 in Denver!

That means hotel and flight pricing will be affected somewhat.... book soon, as it's only 3 weeks away.

I was trying to make the trip to Red Rocks work because Billy Strings is that really worth traveling for, Lance. Just too much work stuff to juggle and the quickie trip was going to be tricky. A weekend would have worked better for me..

I've been listening to his music during Covid and probably would have tried to get to Red Rocks  just for his band. I am smitten, and the Billy K collaboration and those players are just icing on the Bieber cake ;)

Anyway, thanks for the curmudgeonly comments, Lance - it helps with the FOMO, a bit.

Billy Strings is the new Justin Bieber of the jamband / jamgrass set

Closer to Mayer but Billy seems cooler and is a picker with roots in Bluegrass. Mayer was a Hollywood wannabe egoist who got lucky when he met Weir and his life changed forever.

Strings is playing his own shows at the Mountbleu hotel in South Tahoe in September. That's not as far as Denver, is in a much smaller venue and is his own show, with his own band, doing his own (bluegrass?) thing.

Travelin' Strings fans may want to check that out.

>>>> because Billy Strings is that really worth traveling for...YUP

Looks like the Saturday Tahoe show is sold out Lance...never miss a Sunday show.

That would be great cherry-popper for my first Red Rocks show, but I'm hoping he might do Hardly Strictly since he's in California on Sept 26th.

I've seen him 3 or 4 times now, a few times in small venues. He's here in SLC on Sept 22 at a large outdoor venue.

www.cashortrade.org

I've received several ticket alerts today for GA tickets at face value... in case anyone is still in need, they are out there.

You'll be more successful if set up a GOLD CoT account and set up "for sale" alerts that arrive via text.

Looks like Billy String's Friday show at the Fox in Oakland is sold out (for now, tm has a "check back!" message).

There's a free audio stream of tonight's Billy Strings show - fair warning the last few streams have been hit or miss with buffering issues but great when it isn't bumped offline.

Red Rocks is one of the most famous venues in the world. Its structure, along with the amazing performances it has brought to us, make it so legendary. However, it might not all be as smooth as expected lately. On a tweet posted in the venue’s account, the Red Rocks team invited attendees located behind the 40th row (there are 70) to bring their own headphones and connect to an app to get sound fed directly to them from the mixer. While we can’t make any assumptions as to why is this happening, the chat around the internet has blamed it all on sound ordinances and lack of quality inside the venue on the rows located on the back of the venue.

 Billy K sells 2 10k shows immediately

yet PLF can't sell out a 2500 person venue (Vail)

huh...

^^^^^Billy K's starting line up way more interesting than Phil's support players.

Guessing that Vail didn't use AXS (ticket bots)?

^^Ha Ha...

Billy Strings sells out shows on his own pretty regularly, so it's not really surprising that BK and Strings together would sell out fast. OTOH I don't even know who Phil plays with anymore, lost interest awhile ago in seeing the terrapin family band. Not hating on them, I'm sure they put on fun shows for the Marin folks, just not worth the price or drive for me.

Caveat I wouldn't pay to see BK play w/o Strings, and still wouldn't bother with travel etc to see Strings play with BK, even if Carlos showed up.

the excitement about  Billys and the Kids  is  about the band Billy K assembled,  and mostly about  Billy Strings, IMO.

I agree. I probably shouldn't have singled Phil's band out, I'm even less interested in seeing Dead and Co. and they're industry professional players. I still love Phil, Bob and the drummers but the GD cover band trend burned me out awhile ago. Strings doesn't come off as a Garcia impersonator, and I enjoy a different take on the GD songbook he brings that was lacking in the Jerry guy era.

I'm ISO Tuesday tixs

also posted in the newly resurrected/relevant Tix folder...

A guy named Preston Thompson (R.I.P.) from Sisters Oregon built a couple of Billy's guitars. He started luthiery in the 70's and built for Peter Rowan and Charlie sawtelle of hot rize. Pretty sure his son has taken over the company since Preston died. Incredible craftsmanship, and the sound is just...

Paging Walstib:  In the last 24 hours, I've received like a dozen Cash or Trade ticket alerts for The Billys -- both Mondays and Tuesdays... Did you get one of those, I hope?

Thanks LLOLLO

I've been a little late to the draw on several of these posts.

I'm confident Tuesday Tix  will materialize...

I may have an extra Tuesday...won't know until next week.

Thx Nedb

Keep us in mind.

Planning some hikes in the Indian Peaks, so RR will help to  acclimatize...

Sounds like fun!

90% chance I will have an extra for Tuesday, possibly Wednesday, too. Let's have a beer(s).

Upper North Lot pre-game...

If you go to RR Park  to hike/visitor center in the am of show nites. where do you park and do they clear the lots by 2pm?

I like to park on the road by the lower north lot. This way you can avoid the cluster of getting out of the lot after the show. Just make sure you park facing north for easy exit. Use entrance 1. Dinosaur ridge is also right across the road from entrance 1.

https://redrocks.co/park-info/

*Exit one works well for access to I70, Golden, Denver, Boulder. Not so much for points south.

You can park in the top north lot (or any lot) all day long, and they do not clear the lot before the concert crowd starts rolling in.

Indian Peaks has a bunch of hiking options. You can also lookm at some of the hikes off the raod going up Mt. Evans south of Idaho Spgs.

Never been to RR (except in winter) but had tickets for GD 82 but sold them in Ventura. My sister lives in Littleton. You could ride a bike from where she lives if you wanted to. 8.6 miles according to Mapquest.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to plan a pregame in the upper north lot as some Zoners will be attending! Also trying to avoid the stairs/ramp entrance from the south lots (but that can be a rite of passage for some...). If we can get into  the park early, I'd like to visit the museum, visitor center& trading post for the RR newbie and a hike  for the views.

and doolittle, the weather was better in Ventura then RR in '82. Rain every day...

There is an excellent short hiking trail that starts and ends at the Trading Post.

@WALSTIB

The  Ventura.shows and place were better IMO!

CRAZY FINGERS

It's funny how  I type shit and it comes out different

In for Tuesday!

Thx to a simple twist of fate at a friend's Bday party!...

has there been a giant debate here about the validity of the band members?

asking for a friend

Yay they announced a live stream for fans at home! I've used the fans live stream before for Billy Strings shows during the pandamndemic and I strongly advise logging in an hour before the show to make sure everything is in working order. The website can be a little bit confusing for first time users and you don't want to be fucking around with it when the show starts. They have a semi separate "be in the stream" thingy that you can stream your living room back to the artists and other fans. I have no use for it but a lot of people like that feature.

https://fans.live/products/bill-kreutzmann-s-billy-the-kids?fbclid=IwAR2...

FYI if you order both night's at the same time there's a $5 discount. You'll want to select the two-night live stream option in the pull-down menu instead of ordering each separately.

Thank you Dise!

Okay folks, I know you've been waiting for my take on the music from these shows.  After listening to a few random songs, I've got to say this is some of the best post-garcia music I've heard in the past 10 years.

Q & A is open.
