Blaze Foley

Forums:

Billy covering dude's tunes has me going down a mini rabbit hole.  Wild stuff and if his partner in misadventures, Townes Van Zandt, calls you crazy, you know you are crazy.

Also while researching Blaze, I discovered an animated music documentary series from Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill) called Tales from the Tour Bus.  Watched part of the Blaze episode and another but from the P-Funk one.  Good stuff and check it out if you can.

Awesome songwriter and by all accounts a pretty good dude. Shame he died that way. I can't recommend Ben Dickey's movie Blaze enough. It's top shelf. John Prine played blaze's song clay pigeons often. Can't think of a much higher compliment than to be covered by someone like him. Oval room might be my favorite song of his but you know it's always hard to pick just one. The Billy Joe Shaver episode of tales from the tour bus is a really good one, and with an amazing Grateful Dead connection in there too.

Oh and since you are deep in the rabbit hole anyways, Otis Gibbs' YouTube channel definitely has at least a couple interviews with gurf morlix, blaze's friend/bass player.

This note can be found on the back cover of Blaze's solo album, if you're lucky enough to come across one

Yeah, Mice, the Blaze movie is the best biopic I've ever seen.

They dug the dude up
