Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors

Forums:

Living and going to college in NY in the late 80s early 90s I got to see countless shows.  The Wetlands was our weekend go to spot and of course stopping at Wo Hop before heading home was an absolute must.  It was there that I saw so many Blues Traveler shows.  More often than not the Spin Doctors would open up and the show would end with a super jam with both bands.  I really loved Blues Traveler during this time period.  So of course when tickets went on sale recently for Blues Traveler and the Spin Doctors at the St. Aug Amp I had get a pair.  Looking forward to some nostalgia.  Anyone else frequent the Wetlands back in the day?  How about the Right Track Inn in Freeport?

Was eating breakfast at a hotel last week and the spin doctors came on and had a bit of reflection myself.  Kind of a strange band that got real popular with a few hits and then disappeared.  Cheesy pop tunes with no depth and it caught up with them.

Blues Traveler was fun during this time period. A lot of energy and creativeness.  I think I saw them about 5 years ago and they were a shell of their former self.  But in the early 90s I had a bunch of their boots and saw them when I could.

As for the Wetlands...it was such a wonderful place - only got to go three times but had a blast each time.

1st time i Saw Blues Traveler they were on the marquee at the Warfield. Opened for JGB. Was a really good show by both

Spin Doctors-> Blues Traveler at Roseland 12-31-90. A humdinger of an evening.

Spin Doctors were a fun live band. Bunch of great times seeing them around the NYC metro. They were always playing somewhere.

Same thing with Blues Traveler and while I appreciated Popper and his songwriting, I never was a big fan of Chan's guitar playing. It kinda' hemmed them in.

PS. The Right Track Inn deserves it's own thread;-)

I used to see that pairing of bands in Portland -- they were hot in the early 90s -- fun dance music!

while not in the Vt area, upstate NY, I was in the wheelhouse for a lot of Phish early tours, Spin Doctors were around but they didn't strike a chord with me much so only saw a few times. Moe. was another that i dug early on... and saw many times. ..but have not followed in years. interestingly enough, tho, I'll be seeing a stealth  pop up Moe. show tonight in Syracuse, booked as Monkeys on Ecstasy, sold out very quickly so fully expecting total chaos of a GA crowd

I saw a Monkey's show in Utica where they busted out their first Cryptical O1 Cryptical.   I like their O1s a lot.  "Pancakes at Al's house!"

Also saw moe at wetlands at least once maybe twice...blizzard night with Take the Skinheads Bowling

I bet it's been 25 years since I've seen them. GOTV probably

I saw them a few years ago and had a great time.  Crowd was older and chill and plenty of room to dance.   Got a nice Meat which was all I was really hoping for.

Used to see them both all the time back in the day. Blues Travelers, Spin Doctors & Joan Osborne used to play at the Nightingale Lounge on 2nd Ave prior to Wetlands becoming a thing.

I also went to Wetlands all the time. I was there the night they opened and the following night when they had the first band play which was New Potato Caboose.

As for the Right Track Inn, we used to go see the Volunteers who eventually became the Zen Tricksters. Rob Barraco was in that band. Jeff Mattson (now of DSO) was also in the band. This was from around 1987 on I believe.

Anyone here remember the Homel Alaniz band?

Wetlands, Right Track Inn yes. I was a teenager.
I recall seeing Blues Traveler at the Haunt in Ithaca. And my first Phish show and Eek A Mouse all in a weeks time.

I first saw them both on the HORDE tour at the ny state fair. Big day for me. First Phish and WSP too. Saw blues traveler a few times over the years and their show was always top notch, never mailed in. Most recently was at Revolution hall (Washington high school) shortly after it opened and they (and the venue) were just great. I saw the homel alaniz band at a barbecue in B'ville once, and another time when they played at the bush mill. I was real young, my friend's dad brought us in there. Sticky floors. I thought they were a "big" band because they had ads in relix magazine and the new times lol. Right track inn and wetlands were way before my time though.

Good looking show from RD3 - Weir/Wasserman/Lane.  No audio found   sad

saw the Spin Doctors in like 1984/5  My old buddy Dave  guitarist for THE TEARAWAYS out of Santa Barbara opened up for them in some club in LA. we had backstage privileges, there was a colman cooler full of millers we helped ourselves and chatted bout living in SB as they were in like west Hollywood' I remember enjoying their show, 30 years later they played at our Bar in Paris, where I was cheffin' they didn't remember the show in La  but had a fun time again. Saw Blues-Travelers in the 80s at the Wetlands kinda a fun blur

Just saw this

Blues Traveler   Gin Blossoms    Spin Doctors

July 9

Cuthbert Amphitheater

picture from the show above at the wetlands

wetlands 99.jpgbonus points if you can name the guy with the guitar

^^Jay Lane?^^

That's my guess as well

it sure looks like Jay

That's what I thought too. Is that Warren toking?

I think he's sucking on a rib bone

It has to be Jane Lane as the other musicians playing that night were Wasserman and Michael Falzarano and that's not either of them.

Blues Traveler and the spin doctors used to rock the wetlands.  Loved it every time I went. My ears still ring. No shit.
seen some recent videos of BT and still feel like they should have gotten a different guitar player a LONG time ago.
