Bob Weir

Forums:

Has there been a period of time like this in decades that he didn't have shows planned? Radio silence lately and let's face it, GG wasn't sounding great....

Isn't he technically like, our leader now?

By default?

Not mine.

An interview from this Spring said he was trying to get back to working on an autobiography he had already written a few chapters for.

Hope he's doing well as his 78th birthday approaches a week from today.

Wonder if he will touch on the part where he starts grooming a 15 year old Natasha.

In terms of former members of the GD doing the most live shows, yes, although not sure if this is "by default"?

Wouldn't Mickey be the "head of the family" as the oldest, "by default"?

(or does Mickey "count" in light of his late arrival?)

I don't think Mickey counts

plus he wears those gloves

Does that make Billy the head of the family, by default?

Well if Billy is head of the family now we are all in for some serious therapy soon.

it's nice bobby works out.

Bobby addressed the Natascha thing in his documentary.

I had an original copy of his book Baru Bay, which came with a tape of him reading the story. That and all my other kids books got lost in  a flood. Last weekend I custied up and gave Bobby more money for a new copy, but without the tape. Why? Because I have a grandkid on the way. How crazy is that?

The GD was run on consensus.
But Jerry sure felt like our leader who chose not to lead.
And later, Phil was indeed our leader who taught us all that we could still adventure.

Deadco is run on shares, and Mayer has purchased the majority.
He owns the brand, and owns the band.
Any guesses on who will be the next rhythm guitarist in the band?

but, what about Jonas? I thought he was going to be the new Jerry

Congrats, BK

I kinda looked upon Phil as the "head of the family" after Jerry died, although wound up seeing Bobby a bit more.

if we're talking about the furthur dynamic, it always felt to me like phil was the dick cheney to weir's george w bush

also, there's lots of jokes that go around about who our next leader or new jerry will be, and who will take over milking the teats after bob and the drummers are gone, but in all seriousness i think the only person who might be able to pull off a fully post-GD, post-post jerry tour, might be jeff chimenti. he's played the most post jerry dead shows and been in the most lineups by far, everyone likes the guy and his playing, and he seems like the closest thing to a "new" GD member after the GD closed up shop. i wouldnt expect him to name a band after himself  or act as a bandleader onstage, but realistically, a band put together by him where he sets the direction and acts as bandleader behind the scenes could be the best case scenario for something that might deliver some well played music and might deliver a modicum of authenticity.

> it always felt to me like phil was the dick cheney to weir's george w bush

Ouch. Times two.

I hope you're right about Chimenti, but unfortunately the real money will be in hooking up with Mayer.

Funny how different everyone's post-Jerry journey was.
I found Ratdog to be pretty unlistenable. I certainly gave them a shot.
When Furthur hit, I was ok with Bob being on board, and it was a decent assemblage for the first year, maybe the first 2 years?
The last (3?) years of Furthur, howerver, were pretty throwaway for me. IMO it was just keeping us from having more PLF shows.

Post-Further, I have had absolutely no use for Bob whatsoever.I get that he's a key member. But without Jerry, or at least Phil, he's just not appealing to me at all.
Even when listening to GD recordings, there's definitely a bunch of Bobby songs I'm just gonna skip sometimes.
Truly, it's been JRAD that has made me love many Bob songs again, lol.

Ah so that's how the other half lives!
