Not a bad start

Careful with that bigsby, Bobby

Days Between

Phil did this one so well

Fun stream as always...   liked how Bobby laughed when he forgot the 2nd verse of Music never stops, but they recovered well, and the rest of the show had a nice slow honky tonk groove to it...

I miss Phil...

Did anyone notice audio issues with the stream during the 2nd set?  (aside from the playing LOL)

Yes i noticed that last night..

also noticing how terrible this Uncle Johns Band sounds tonight

12/28:  Greatest   Ramble On   El Paso   Desolation Row   West LA   Sailor   Saint

Shakedown  Uncle John   Truckin   Other 1   Wheel   Sugar Mag   E;  Ripple

Saturday night sing a longs are not my favorite. Again First set was good for me. Desperation Row was fine.

2 down 4 to go. Were holding up over here

Tim - you are a trooper to do four nights.   Good on ya.  Hopefully it picks up a little.

actually were doing all 6

my wife is in heaven

just heard the "fare the well" ubc for the first time

Phil must've been cringing the whole time

if you like bobby and his band and pace:

enjoy

i spent the 90's working in both those theaters Tim...so many memories...if you need a pre show spot to get right before you head in, go to the south side of the theater building on the riverwalk and walk past the circle and you'll be along the New River and it should still be semi discreet....

i have soo many stories / memories of those theaters...

one of our crew sayings was ' Lunch @ 1, trips @ 6 ' - ran a spotlight in that place more than once dosed to the gills...you're either WAY on or WAAAAYYYYY off...the Dizzy Dean effect

peace

So, we hate everything about Dead $ Co. but this messy jumble of nothing gets an almost complete pass?

"Free with a Nugs subscription"

I don't like being negative as it's easier to say nothing but I agree that this Wolf Bros stuff sounds awful and Weir is getting a free pass these days. His guitar sounds really bad. I guess nobody can tell him at this point which is sad. And while he always had flubs it's gotten to the point that it's hard to make it through a song.

Are they having off nights rather than 'this band doesn't sound good'? When they played here last year or the year before (sorry, I don't know how long ago things occurred) it waa exciting and they sounded good. What's the story?

What I've heard so far doesn't even come close to how they sounded just a year ago

Night one in person was good, could have been the sugar cube

night 2 was slower and a lil clunkier

last night was straight up poor and slow with a Bombs away and Festival really annoying, even with a fat bad of shrooms it was not a good show at all. a bunch of people were pumped with it though

even my wife, who would leave me for Bob said it was one off the worst ones yet

weather report suite with the horns was the highlight last night

let's go Bobby, I wish I can send him a cube and get the party started

I think he has some peripheral neuropathy or carpal tunnel. He shakes his hand out alot

Also, he didn't play OMSN on Saturday

seems bery odd

This is a minimalist trio (with classical flourishes), with lots of room for the songs to breathe and no reason to hurry or rock hard. It's interesting and, in my experience, a fine way to spend a weeknight in a great theater, mostly seated. I think one of the disconnects between what Bob's doing these days and his audience is that this is just not a New Year's Eve dance party band. Anybody who flew down to Florida expecting heavy jams or twirling in rock n' roll ecstasy is probably going to be a little disappointed. Like many things, Wolf Bros. is all about set and setting.

For those about to rock tonight, however, I salute you.

It wasn't the trio, it was the full Wolf Pack with the horns and all of the other instruments. The trio is Jan 2 & 3.

Yes but at it's core it's a trio (or quartet with Barry), the Wolf Pack adds the flourishes (and they do add a lot to the mix). It's still a pretty quiet and thin sound most of the time.

You're being generous about the thin sound. Some of those horn players look like they want to kill Bobby or have a look of like what they hell is going on. It's a good idea on Weir's part that he just can't execute (in my opinion).

There seems to be a musical disconnect between the horns n strings and the core to my ears. I think it sounds terrible and hopefully the trio brings it back to basics in a couple days

plenty of retirement communities down there to consider...

When I saw them a year or two ago it was good.  I had no expectations but most everyone sat the entire show.   Biggest complaint was they held Barry back - my own opinion is Bobby controls starts and stops to jam opportunities too much.   Bob is 77 years old.  I realize I may still be considered a youngster around these parts, but 77 seems old to be "rockin" out.   Over the past decade or two, he seems to have had a lot of ups and downs, so no surprise that he might be either slowing down (additional slowing or just not all there).  I find Dylan to be the same.  Walked out of my last Dylan show as I couldn't even understand what song he was playing, yet the latest round of Dylan shows seems to be better.   It's just hit and miss.

I recommend lowering expectations, switching to BMFS, or multiple sugar cubes.

Here in person just for tonight and the Playin' opener was very good.   Bobby's guitar sounds fine except it's too loud in the mix and it's rhythm as lead.  Turn up Barry - ah they did on FOTD.

Streaming the show, so far so good...   (missed last nights)

I am also Eddie. Totally agree about Barry. Wish Bobby would let him cut loose a little more. But the band has a good sound.

Just caught the rebroadcast of Bob's first set last night.   Dude sounds great but good grief, give Barry a Gibson SG and let him fly.

^^^^^
While the 1st set tonight was enjoyable, I have to agree with Fishcane.
Like night and day from last New Year's and even the prior February show here. Hopefully the 2nd set gets it going. But I'm a realist. They seem out of sync. Compared to last year. Maybe Bob spent too much time with Dead & Co

2nd set picked it up quite a bit. More reminiscent of last year with a much fuller sound. Thought the Dark Star > Eyes  segment was quite good with excellent solos from the trumpet player on Dark Star and the violin on Eyes

What a night!

Dropped 125 cubes in my section

it had its ups and downs but mostly up

sless was the loudest tonight out of the 4 nights

the brothers and not the pack in a smaller venue hopefully we can hear more steel

^^^^
Tim I think at the Parker all we're getting is the Trio. No Chimenti. No Sless. Same as the opener for last night's second set. Hoping I'm wrong but that's the way the show is billed.

Not Fade Away was the encore or right out of Terrapin?

2025 - Free animated GIF - PicMix     The Wolf Brothers

, NFA was definably clunky to my ears in person  and just like that it was over.

Duh, anybody remember Ratdog?  Bobby kept the governor on Mark Karan all those yrs so that he would not show Bobby up. Why would it be any different with WBs and Barry?

To the point that when I saw him with Live Dead69 and Dead/Bros I was amazed at how well he played. I had no idea he was THAT good

Fish, you talking about Mark Karan?  Check him out with the road version of The Third Mind.  Dave Alvin introduces him as lead guitar. And he smokes.

^agreed. Mark's a great fit in that band. Superb interplay with Dave. Chapel show a few weeks back was stellar! Melty light show was a bonus...

Will do, thanks!

----------"Dude sounds great but good grief, give Barry a Gibson SG and let him fly."

By this point it is obvious that Weir has zero interest in having a lead guitarist in this ensemble.  He's put together a diverse group to create the music the way he wants it done and clearly having someone shredding leads on a Gibson SG or some other 6-string isn't any part of Weir's vision for his project! (He's got Dead & Company and John Mayer to scratch that particular itch)

I am well aware I'm part of the "another picky deadhead" community so this all comes with the territory but folks clamoring for "free Barry Sless" are actively politicking against what a "free Bob Weir" wants his project to be.

"But it would be SO much better!" - yeah, well apparently not for the guy who's chasing his muse and it's his band, sooooo.....

Has Barry ever played a Gibson?

ever? in any configuration?

I don't think Barry has played a gibson

Terry, you aren't wrong.....yet..still believe it would be better with more Barry

"free barry sless" is something that can be applied to lots of other bands as well, not just wolfpack. there have been several lineups where barry is relegated to pedal steel, including PLF. regardless of who is leading the band or what kind of music they are trying to play, if youre familiar with barrys playing in the DNB, its nearly always frustrating to see him relegated to the pedal steel, because you know very well how good the music could be. TBH i dont really care all that much about a band or musicians vision on paper, im mostly just concerned with the quality of the improvisations, which is rarely served well by keeping barry behind the pedal steel.
