Bob Weir vs Bobby Weir

Forums:

Noticed that Bobby has changed his billing from Bob to Bobby.  Any  thoughts?

he heard it takes ten years off?

I doubt he pays any attention to that.

Managers gonna' manage.

I prefer Robert Weir. Seems more Presidential since he's considering running for polidicks!

It's "weir here" now

"Cartwheels for Bobby Weir "

'Ace'

I got his autograph 15 years ago and he signed it "Bobby Weir." When he IDs himself in videos it's "Bobby" also.

This is what I was referring to when I said "Cartwheels"

Classic lot footage from the Vibes. Makes you feel like your at a festival and you woke up early or never slept.

Lol, "biscuits and gravy and boobies"

I use both names depending. If I say his whole name, “Bob Weir” sounds better to me. If it’s just his first name, I’ll usually say “Bobby.” I don’t think I’ve ever said “Bobby Weir.” But that’s just me.

Kinda the same with Kreutzmann. If I say his whole name I usually say “Bill Kreutzmann,” but if it’s just his first name then it’s “Billy.”

He'll always be Bill Sommers to mecheeky

I prefer Bobby Weir. The extra syllable makes it roll off the tongue a little more satisfyingly. Bob Weir might as well take the space out between and make it a one name name Bobweir.

Like Madonna.

He used to check into hotels under the alias Hugo Fugyoself.

In school he was "Blob Weird".

Cupertino read my mind on this key issue.

No one ever calls Mickey Hart just "Mick" though.

Dating back to a time when he looked like a pretty girl. Bobby is used when referring to him during Bobby moments...."Why the hell did Bobby cut off that Scarlet jam?" or "Goddammit Bobby, just fucking tune it already". There are hundreds of case studies of Bobby behavior. It's somewhat of a derogatory label but one that comes with an underbelly of respect. If you don't love the guy, you're not allowed to use it.

I like it when the Bob Star doesn't know what to play next in a deep jam and he'll turn around and pretend to fiddle with his amp or tap the top of amp with his fist

^^^Bob Star^^^

Long as we got to be
Long as we are
I just wanna be
One of them little stars

One of them little stars
That'd just be fine
All you gotta do now
Just hang up there and shine
Hang up there and shine......

I've noticed this too and couldn't help but wonder if it's a promoter's idea?

Bobby signed this backstage pass for my daughter, Aja.

Perhaps this is an effort to market Weir to the younger element as being more youthful?

He could always just shave that mess of a beard off.

Keep the beard, use whatever name is comfortable. Reading more into it than what he likes to be called or how he thinks of himself is ...

It's been a week and no one has offered Booby Weir?  Very disappointed in you guys.

Zang, I did offer "Slobby Weir" in another thread, which is what we called him in the late '80's/'90's due to his

continual spraying of spittle on the front row. I will be at the Greek tonight for the Bobby show; 29 years ago today

Mrs. Localcountyline and I did our first show together, Jerry Garcia Band at Cal-Expo, 7-24-92.

Hotter than hell that day.

Before the advent of social networking, I would be inclined to agree with you; however, after reading many posts online "by" Bobby over the past few years or so, I wouldn't be surprised if he has an online mouthpiece (this is hardly to say he is not eloquent/poetic in his own right when we do hear him speak directly).  If this is the case, then perhaps he has granted more power to others to promote his image online in more general terms as well?

He's always gone as "Bobby"

Remember the bumper stickers:

The Fat Man Drools

and

The Thin Man Spits

Rail riders(mid 80's) I knew snuck in umbrellas and would open them in front of the Bobstar when he sang and put them down when he didn't. Bobby was not amused.

Then a rumor went around that by 1988 Bob would take a supplement before going on stage to create less saliva...

i think he should bill himself as "The Bob Experience"

He'll always be Blob Weird to me.

The bumper sticker on the lot in the late '80s i remember was:

"Bobby Spit on Me"

That weird voice coming thru Healy's PA always taunted,"Bobbyyyyyyy."

^ The one I recall was "The fat man rocks, the thin man spits"

Here's an interesting interview from 91 where Healy bullshits an interviewer.....yeah sure Healy, you don't party after a show....

A Conversation With Dan Healy

This comment was interesting:

"As far as I can tell, the most ideal temperature for sound is between 70∞ and 85∞. Themost ideal humidity is between 40% and 80%."

But he sure sanitizes some things:

"... Like, an example of that would be, during Space Jam if Bobby throws something out at me and I hear something strange, Iíll catch it, do something to it and turn around and throw it back at him. Itís like an audio frisbee game."

BB: How do you and everybody else maintain your energy level on the tour? It wears me out.
DH: Make sure and rest. Donít party ever. I never party after the show. Well I wouldnít say never. The point is that youíve got to be conservative....

BB: What happens after the show? Does everybody go home or to the hotel room?
DH: Well yeah, I just go back to my hotel room, Go to sleep

At the recent Meet-Up At The Movies (Chicago 91), the close-ups of Bob took us right into the heart of the spit zone a few times, but it was like watching the old prop comic Gallagher smash watermelons on TV from the safety of the sofa in your living room. No mess, or need for umbrellas, rain coats, or tarps.
