Bongladesh?

Forums:

I was listening to the Bangladesh benefit concert today, and the idea for a benefit concert for the American cannabis small farmer hit me.  It could be both worthy and fun.

Dave Chappelle, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong could host.

Performances by Willie, Dylan, Burning Spear, Snoop, Dre, Billy Strings, Norah Jones (her dad played at the original Bangladesh concert), Cypress Hill.

A concert for the small farmers benefit, and maybe add on to advocate for nationwide legalization.

I have an idea for a dual-feature concert "baseball" hat.

For times when the music is too loud: It has earplugs on strings that either drop down over the ears or tuck inside little pockets in the top of the hat (when not being used). The strings keep the earplugs from getting lost and the earplugs can be easily replaced and restrung when necessary.

For times when the music is too quiet: It has small, semi-rigid fabric fold outs in the sides of the hat that come down behind each ear (and cup the hat wearer's ear a little bit) to reflect more sound into the ear. When not in use, they fold up into the hat. (I've seen reflector elephant ear hearing aids before, but no small collapsible ones that are part of an attractive hat.)

Million dollar idea!

These hats would certainly come in handy at a Bongladesh concert.

> the American cannabis small farmer

I think that term needs a definition. ChatGPT sez it's likely millions of folks.

The number of people growing cannabis non-commercially in the U.S. is difficult to estimate precisely due to varying legal statuses across states and the presence of unreported or illegal grows. However, based on available surveys and state laws, it is estimated that millions of Americans grow cannabis for personal use.

Key factors:

  • Home Grow Laws: As of 2023, around 20 states and Washington, D.C. allow adults to grow cannabis for personal use, usually with limits on the number of plants (typically between 4 to 12 plants per household). States with legal home grows include Colorado, California, Massachusetts, and Michigan.
  • Estimates of Home Growers: A survey conducted by New Frontier Data in 2021 found that about 6% of cannabis consumers in the U.S. reported growing their own cannabis. With millions of regular cannabis users across the country, this percentage suggests a sizable population of home growers—potentially in the range of 2-5 million people.
  • Medical Cannabis Users: In some states, medical cannabis patients may also grow their own plants, often under different regulations. This adds to the number of people growing cannabis at home for personal use.

While concrete numbers are hard to pin down, this gives a general sense of the scale of non-commercial cannabis cultivation in the U.S.

Alan - I have previously invented a device for concert hearing improvement. It consists of two hollow plastic quarter spheres just large enough to fit over the ear. They are connected by one of those goes over the head springy bands. If the music isn't loud enough or if there are talkers behind or to the side of you, put the plastic "air scoops" on with the opening facing forward.

If the music is too loud, wear them reversed with the opening facing away from the stage.

They could be made pretty cheaply IMO.

Dammit. Someone stole my idea! (I've probably been blabbing my mouth too much at local concerts.) But that's just one part of the concept. They missed the boat of the dual feature hat.

And this product is discontinued -- which could present a good investment opportunity for someone just starting a hat company -- they've already done a lot of the research and design.

Surf ya gotta keep things on the qt if ya wanna make a million. Some dude who wears glasses already stole your idea, too.

I'm tellin ya -- no one's combined the TWO features in a hat yet.* That's where the payday is.

* I havent actually researched this

Dang - they stole my idea.

I'm gonna sue!

Thinking about getting one of these for my next show.

the amount of $ it would take to make a difference is far, far larger than the revenues from an event like this. what would the money actually go towards? people need hundreds of thousands of dollars each just to meet licensing/regulatory requirements, and any farmer whose old black market farm isnt properly zoned for ag needs a lot more than that. hourly/salaried employees need significant, permanent raises to compensate for falling wages.

an event like this could buy a small handful of farmers access to the legal market. at what point would this just become a for-profit event aimed at getting a tiny handful of people their own legal cannabis farm? or do they just give a bit to everyone muscled/priced out of the cannabis market? gonna give every down and out weed farmer like $10 bucks?

> gonna give every down and out weed farmer like $10 bucks?

Even if they did that, it sounds like it would add up to more than $10 million, and that's just not going to happen. Probably a better idea would be a push for national legalization benefit.

I suppose that like Farm Aid, it would amplify the challenges to the small farmer of this one specific crop, and advocate for their needs.  Nationwide legalization by the Feds would help make discussing and implementing policies and regulations of growing, distribution, and transacting more transparent.

Kamala Harris said this recently on the All The Smoke podcast:

“I just think we have come to a point where we have to understand that we need to legalize it and stop criminalizing this behavior,”

If she is elected, this could happen.  Might as well start preparing the foundation to represent the independent farmers so we don't end up with only corporate McWeed.

On another tangent, Bhangladesh may be a better name for the benefit.

It would/should not be for "non-commercial growers". It would be for the small commercial farmers that cannot compete with the mega money super grows.

Zoners have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to small commercial weed farmers (and maybe a smuggler or two) already -- what the fuck did they do with all that money? Go to concerts?
