Am afraid battening down the hatches will not help.
As Donald Trump vilifies the press, the courts, immigrants, Muslims, Democrats, protesters and anyone who disagrees with him, it isn’t hard to imagine a modern-day Mussolini — or worse. But an even greater threat lies in Republicans’ march toward full control of state government. If they get there, they will have the frightening power to amend the Constitution into their own authoritarian image.
It could get very ugly very soon?

But to have 99.9% of the GOP adopt this suspiciously duplicitous stance is establishing an environment we have not seen since WWII . Start grassroots efforts.
Take all you money out of Big B a n k s
Go to rally's
Take effort to read about what is going on.
Be informed about politics.
Not easy to go after big "o i l" when most of us rely on vehicles...though get out on your bike more, use public transportation, try and cut gas consumption.
Listen to NPR radio
Do not watch mainstream tv - watch public channels for news info.

"If you not active you are part of the problem": is what I hear on NPR.
In the short term we can get hammered by what is going on with current polices. Though if this gets the people to come together and make a difference then maybe this could be the best thing for us. It could wake us all up to what is really going on and do something about it. So there could be a silver lining here in the end...or that is what I am hoping for.

connecting with local groups like Faith in Action.org, Catholic Charities, ACLU, SPLC, PP, and even city leaders can make a difference on the local level.
I believe that Spanish Jam lives overseas and might not have any local activist community to network with. Acting locally really does make have an impact, on policy and on overall feelings of optimism. it easy to feel depressed when one feels sees a Fascist movement emanating from the White House (and the complicit GOP) and are unable to do anything to stop it. joining the resistance really does help, if only for peace of mind.
If acting locally isn't an option it's easy enough to connect with others who want to stop the Trump/Bannon regime from trampling on the constitution. start by making those phone calls to legislators, and keep calling. #notnormal
