Bug eating plants, round 2; Sundews and a Pitcher plant

Forums:

The 2 Venus Flytraps (Seymour and Audrey) just weren't enough, had to get a couple of sundews and a pitcher plant... this may just be the beginning!

Small bugs, meet your death, Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!

Much better- death to no seeums.

also -cool! The spatulata looks like a "wand plant".    Like the hobby. I always spend extra time looking at them when i go to a plant conservatory or botanical place. Do they require etxra humidity like orchids?

Got anything that eats fleas?

The sundews like humidity the most, otherwise they're pretty easy,  just need distilled water (or rainwater) and lots of sun.  NO fertilizer, NO tap water, etc.

One of the flytraps (sorry fly) has been eating sugar ants, so that's a plus!  (don't have any fleas here thank goodness, but would be cool if they did attract / eat them)

I've never grown butterworts before, so this should be fun!

When they get fully nutrified,  and they turn on you,  will it be 'Druba'  posting,  or those Giant Carnivorous Plants (which) / (whom) ate you and took over your VLZ password ???

I named the first 2 flytraps "Audrey" and "Seymour", so i'm telling folks if the trucks still here, then i've been vanquished!

(right now they've been feasting on sugar ants all on their own, so i'm happy)

Have you been to the Darlingtonia wayside in Florence? Some cool "cobra plants" there.

Re. fleas - we have 2 cats but have had up to 5. Plenty of mice, deer, and dogs nearby, yet we haven't seen a flea in years, literally.

Why? Nematodes.

The wife orders them from an outfit called Planet Natural every few years. Sprinkle them around the property and voila! - no fleas.

I had a VFT and a saraceana (spelling) for a spell, but forgot to keep them hydrated during the fires and they died :( I need to get replacements, soon. Loved those critters!

Check out the California Carnivores website, the have a wild selection of sundews and other carnivorous plants. Good stuff, Maynard!

cool, can you put them next to my pot plants?

If bugs get low do you have to feed them some hamburger meat?

I wouldn't use hamburger meat (they don't like the fat), and as long as they get lots of sun they can do ok without feeding...  but a fly a month is best. Rumors egg whites will work, and some places sell wingless fruitflies (etc) for feeding.

(have never purchased from there, so far been buying everything from Oregon nurseries, as there's several in the state (Ashland, Junction City, Portland, etc)

I have been to that wayside in Florence, pretty cool, and there's some other spots near Cave Junction / 8$ mountain with pitcher plants too, likely closed right now with the fires down there!
