This is a tragically sad story. Nex sounds like a good kid. He/They were (like many 8th Graders) developing their gender identity, but wasn't a troublemaker, enjoyed working with caring for animals. and like many Oklahoma kids, had dreams of being a cowboy.
Because of restrictive legislation and school district policies, Nex had to use the Girls restroom where he/they were taunted by a group of mean girls, leading Nex to pour some water on them. The bullies then proceeded to gang up and give Nex a beatdown, during which Nex blacked out. The following day, Nex collapsed at home, and his/their mother took him/them to the hospital where he/they died.
The full final autopsy results have yet to be made public. It's unclear if Nex's death resulted from an overdose of pain medication or from his/their injuries. The local police announced they will not be pursuing criminal assault charges against Nex's antagonists, claiming that it would be hard to get a jury to convict given the doubt that Nex's attackers were provoked by being doused with water. Utter bullshit. This kid was bullied for being different for a while before the bathroom incident. Why not let a jury decide?
No justice for Nex, and continued oppression of trans and non-binary identifying people by theocratic regimes with their intolerant agendas. In the heady days of the Civil Rights movement, songwriters stood up to protest the deaths of Davey Moore, Hattie Carroll, and Emmett Till. Who will stand up for Nex and those trying to live their lives as they choose in peace?

I erased a short story that didn't fit in, but' I'll go ahead and tell it.
One of my elderly neighbors had her veteran husband pass away about a year ago. She is very Republican and Baptist Christian, but not extreme. They have known what i do for a living since day 1 of moving here, yet have always been kind and generous to me, even though they don't necessarily agree with weed use. They even walked over one day and asked to see the shop in order to learn more about what i was doing. I eagerly agreed, and after the tour and many questions answered, they both left the shop with a much better perspective of what a well run indoor grow looks like and how it operates. Both thanked me.
A few months ago she called and asked if i would drive her the short distance to a small Southern baptist church she attends. I gladly complied and off we went. When we got there, she asked if i would walk her in as there were a few people interested in talking to me about the cannabis program here. Since seeing the shop, she had told some of her friends there about the grow. I agreed and in we went. Amazingly, i did not self combust, as i thought might be possible, and she introduced me to three ladies who asked some good questions, and i was relieved it wasn't a Sermon from the mountain top regarding "drug production" in good ol' Oklahoma. That honor was bestowed upon me by a nearby gentleman who was listening in.
When the ladies left, this guy stepped forward, looked down his nose at me, wouldn't shake my hand, and asked me how i felt about being a "drug producer" here. I immediately replied that i feel great every day that a veteran, a cancer patient, or anyone suffering from anxiety and depression finds relief and a better quality of life from using my, or others, plant medicine that came from god's green Earth. My hackles were raised, so i didn't give him anytime to reply when i asked, ** "Do you know how to tell the difference between a Methodist and a Baptist." He was silent. I answered with, "A Methodist will say 'Hello' to you when they see you at the Liquor store."
I walked over to where my neighbor was standing, said goodbye and walked out smiling. Don't wave yer fucking shamey finger at me, and don't come at me with willful ignorance, either.
