CA recreational/medicinal as a tourist?

Please simply ignore if this has been hashed out already on here and I'll look elsewhere for advice.
I'm going to be spending 3-5 weeks in the LA area starting later this month. Coming from NC I was all kinds of excited to get to a recreational state but discovered that those sales won't start for another year it looks like. Do you have to be a resident to get a Med card? I saw the "factory" store fronts at Venice Beach several years ago when i was last out there but didn't bother to investigate as i was flying back the same day and didn't think it worth the $60 appointment fee for a single day. Now that I'm facing several weeks I'm more interested. Can someone give me the lowdown on this? I've seen conflicting opinions online (go figure). Thanks

Find weekly Entertainment
Find weekly Entertainment newspaper w/online version. They will usually have Med Cannabis Clinics coupons. Worth extra step to call-ahead and hear about what documents you need. Offer em a passport, copy of rental agreement (Cut&Paste as needed) and see if that will fly. Decent back-up would be Photoshoped output of a recent paystub w/Hotel where you staying for an address. Hell, you could even use a PO Box Rental place and just use their address plus a mailbox number. Your Cannabis card is issued at Doctors office; No waiting for phsyical i.d. in mail--so you only need CA address for In-house paperwork.
Could use InOut Burger for local phone number.
Its absolutely worth ANY time/effort/hassle to have your license and have full access to legit dispensary. Last time i was in SF on work trip my fav dispensary had 36 different strains of flowers. I could browse their menu by where grown (In/Grnhse/Out), by THC, CBD, CBG %, price, visual inspection crystal count... Plus best of all had solventless hash(es!!!) that i could compare by screen micron!!!
If you want to partake of some truly stunning medicine--buds out of a High Times Centerfold--- do yourself a favor and get licensed so you can have the full experience. Plus, having card avoids any Zippy style stories that end in legal entanglements on your vacation. "Vacations shouldn't follow you home" as somebody says...

CL is a good last-resort back-up. An elbow of frosty heady dense rock-nugs would by market forces be found easier at a dispensary given what they put their products through w/testing and their Bud Buyers.
Black-market buds are rarely premier runs and are not assured of having been used properly nutrients, flushed, cured etc. Sure...., maybe Ed Rosenthal grew some killer Romulan and gave it to his neighbor to sling on CL for fun. ...Psst, wanna buy a Meet-N-Greet with Elvis for sale?

Only delivery services will take the pdf rec, but they all should as they will verify you before driving out to you. I believe you will need he hardcopy to go into a dispensary. Should be no problem anyway as it's probably delivery services only in the Lancaster/Palmdale area.

As long as the MD writing the rec is in CA you don't have to be a resident to be legal and make dispensary purchases. Laws can vary from county to county but in general they just need valid current id and a hard copy rec. You will need a hard copy, but most MD's provide (including greenlife, meadow, and hellomd) That said, you still can't legally take it out of state.
