It's weird. The California Kind show tomorrow doesn't even show up on Jambase (tonight's show in Bend does). Without Roger footing the bill, opening up for GBB wouldn't make financial sense for those dudes. Maybe they just love jamming together. Who knows but not complaining (except for the fact they are the opener).
fun fact: the GBB drummer, Arthur Steinhorn, is the original drummer for DNB, so he and Barry Sless go way back as bandmates (at least to 1994)
I agree with the observation that CK should be the headliner at the Portland show... I saw them this past Tuesday night at Humbrews, and it's the best I've ever seen 'em (out of 6 CK shows attended)... the jamming was off the hook!
California Kind opened for Garcia Birthday Band at the Star Theater in Portland back in November, very fun time and tonight should be great as well. Tickets are only $20 I believe. Been watching this high quality video of that last Portland show today:
Last night was a lot of fun and California Kind seemed to have tightened up a bunch and Katie Skene seemed to take a pretty commanding role, they played some of her tunes and it was fun to watch Molo lock in with her on her solos. They just seemed really on point, fun set of songs (They played Power to the People, some Katie Skene originals, and an nice, reggae version of FOTM, Low Spark into Wasted and Can't Find My Way home was hot as i recall. GBB played a good show too and Berry Sless sat in on a number of songs. Good times!
Thx Wngfan, I agree w/ your review, and enjoyed Barraco's vocals, too.
Fun time!
We ended up checking out the balcony and discovered the "sky box" rocker chairs up there... Sometimes a sit-down show is required. We had just returned from an overnight in Olympia.
California Kind's Instagram account just confirmed David's appearance @ TXR on May 1, and Phil will join them on May 2. Sigh, another show I can't make because of my necessary day job.

GBB and McMenamins have a long-standing relationship, so it's not really surprising that they would get the headline slot.
