I'm Still Around _ This Year 2019 I Will Have Been Around Philzone then and Viva Now For 19 Years starting shortly after Phil w Dylan on 6/30/00 when i found out about the P Zone - Many Greats have Come and Gone - How long have You've Been Around ?
I was mostly on the old Zero list, but became a regular Zoner after a friend and I met the "2012 folks" (Brett, Schnee, Rob, etc. -- good east coast peeps) when we were "hired" to do the lightshow and room decoration for this event: What a fun night. Which led other fun Phil show collaborations.
"In Celebration of Terence McKenna / Phil Lesh joins Lost at Last - Thursday, December 14, 2000
Tomorrow night in North Beach, the ethno-trance group Lost at Last (Maui-based, but a fixture in the Bay Area) headlines a celebration of McKenna's life, which ended earlier this year. Former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh will make a special appearance.
Lost at Last, recently signed to a major-label deal, collaborated with McKenna several times before his death. Besides Lesh's guest spot -- they'll cover a couple of Dead songs and one by Lost at Last, he says -- the night will include art, DJs and multimedia presentations. Oh yes, and something coyly described as "magic."
Lost at Last with special guest Phil Lesh, 9 p.m. tomorrow at the 7th Note Showclub, 915 Columbus Ave., San Francisco. Tickets are $33."
I had been bored at the Warfield Scofield/jumper shows and started really noticing for the first time how many younger people were at Phil's shows, and the question suddenly hit me... WHO THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE??? So I searched you fuckers out.
I discovered Other Stuff soon after the Newfun saga had played out and I didn't understand the references, so one of first threads I started was asking what "Newfun" was all about.
I was immediately attacked from multiple directions for being a Newfun sock.
^^ i had been on main page for years...used it for news, tours etc...never ever thought of hitting "discussion" until streaming shows really started to take off...i came in here to learn how, and blv me, did i get an education....
Around 2000. I went to a Ratdog show at the SF Fillmore. I wondered about a recording and Jocko suggested I do an "ISO" on the PZ and RD boards. A what?
A million CD's (Japanese Fuji, of course!) and countless bubble mailers later....not to mention tons of FLAC downloads.
Right on Frank 3. Good times. Wasn't Stan from the V.I.? You shared a helluva lot so the miracle was well-deserved.
Jumped into the Hep C folder in '05 - Greg had recently been diagnosed and I needed info and support and where better than to get it than from Deadheads and people who loved music. When I Googled Hep C support I found the Philzone and that was all I needed. The Hep C folder could be crazy and rough-and-tumble since people were sick and also dealing with the terrible side effects of the treatment given those days and there was a lot of anger and discomfort; it could be sort of like having the flu, but worse, for a year of treatment. The treatment often failed, so after all that, folks were still sick. The relationships that developed in the Hep C folder were strong and deep and lasted (like in OS). Today's treatments for Hep C are so much more effective (like roughly 95% for most strains) and with almost no side effects. If you were born between 1945 and 1965 and haven't been tested, do it.
I found O.S. in late '07. I was too shy to post when I first discovered it, then Chef Bill fed my courage and I got into it. That was fun. I really miss those days.
01 found my way here searching for the sound of Tour dates when somehow i got word Phil was touring. Was just coming out of the days of devoting my time to raising kids with the wife and I working different shifts so we had our kids full time with no daycare. Started hitting shows again whenever Phil or ratdog would come to fla. Run around the state fishing and seeing shows, great time for me. Only site of this type that I really go to, although I have peaked into the garbage zone once or twice. Boy do I miss the crazy of the old place, but grateful you all are here, thanx Judith an co.
I had tix to the phil and friends show at the wellmont in Montclair nj 2012 that i needed to move because I lost my house to Sandy. I had no bites on the tix and desperation drove me to OtherStuff... i stuck around.
