So, I have this Kia which is a pretty good car except the trunk leaks. Been to service a bunch of times and they keep trying. Internet research says this is an issue. Due to go back on sat for some new part they ordered. I just got a letter from them offering 2K more than kbb for a trade. Is this a tacit admission the car is fucked, a good opportunity, or just a common sales pitch? I do still owe on the car. However, I sorta was thinking Id get something more durable and paid off by the time I hope to move in 5 years. On third hand, the trunk thing has put me off kia, but Im sure they have used stock. Oh spirit of zone's former car guy, gitmo, help me. Anyone else out there seen letters like this? I don't need a new car but the trunk leak is a drag. 2014 Kia forte, btw. Nice car but for this. Also, now that rainy season is almost over I wont know if repairs are legit until it rains again. Would love some input. Letter written to suggest that the car was specially selected.

Most car companies are making
Most car companies are making offers for trade ins (sell backs?) to people that they sold cars to, I get them for both my wife's and my car (which were both purchased used) all the time. They offer to pay of the remaining loan (if there is any) and apply the trade in to a supposedly good deal on a newer model. I think that the used car market is so hot these days that they are always willing to try and get a decent car back to resale.

Trunk leak should be able to
Trunk leak should be able to be fixed. Could be the tail light - it was on my car. Could also be the spare tire well drain. Still on warranty? Can test repair with a garden hose.

Check the KBB on the car and
Check the KBB on the car and weigh the options. You could easily come away with something you like better. Will they do that on a used car? if so i'd consider it depending on what they have sitting on the used car lot. Go in and say you want 3K and low ball them on the car you want, they are professional scheisters, sometimes you can come out even but you have to low ball then tell them you are going to the car place down the road if they don't come down on the price and act like you don't care either way.. I'd at least play the game with them, then if you're not happy with the deal you can always keep your leaky trunk reliable transportation.

The dealer is trying to get
The dealer is trying to get you out of the car -- w/a the bait of 2k(which you'll probably never get) --- for 2 reasons 1)stop servicing the car, and keep pissing you off, because there is no way to fix a design flaw & 2)they make more $ on the volume of cars than the profit per vehicle. I would think that the 2K would apply towards the purchase of a new vehicle, not a used one? Also see where you are in relation to your payoff and the actual book value of your car. Make sure you aren't upside down on your loan.

Most states have "lemon laws"
Most states have "lemon laws" addressing cars with problems that can't get fixed after a certain number of tries. Oregon's lemon law, for example, requires the manufacturer to buy back defective vehicles for the purchase price less some modest deduction based on miles driven. Before entertaining the dealer's offer, I would check with your state's AG or a consumer rights attorney familiar with your state's lemon laws about your options.

Way past the lemon law time.
Way past the lemon law time. They "fixed" this initially, and then we had a drought, so I didn't realize it was still an issue until this winter and I started smelling mold. Was outside the warranty period, but they are fixing it because it goes back to my original report. Its getting fixed again today, they've done the light, the other light, the gasket, and I don't know what else. Thanks for the hose suggestion. It always get went under the mat, which is why I didn't catch it, which tells me it is leaking in somewhere from the bottom (kicked up by tires) or dripping somewhere I can't see it and pooling at the bottom passenger side. I have friends who have the exact same car without this problem. Like I said, other than this it is a good car, good ergonomically, good on gas, drives nice, comfy, etc. Nothing special, but what you'd expect from a solid compact sedan. Unfortunately for Kia though, this leak will probably prevent me from purchasing another, just because.

I recently learned that leaks
I recently learned that leaks like that can be really simple. If there's schmootz, like leaves or dirt, trapped in that rubber seal around doors, trunks or sunroofs, they don't seal and can leak.

Fake Jews!
I heard Kia and Hyundai were started by rival sons of a Korean auto magnate. Es verdad?
