Called the cops and I suppose they will come around sometime tonight to make a report.  Car was loaded down with all my camping shit.

In the meantime:   FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK!

Is the gear worth more than the car?

shit!!

im so sorry  to hear this.. i hate theives.

So very sorry, Ken! So many components to the fuckedness of it all. I hope the cops find it in good shape. That happened to me once, and even though the car was whole, it never felt the same. Oh man, I'm really sorry.

Fuckwads!

Ken, I hope You get it back.

Hell in a hand basket

Bummer, Ken.

srry man hope ya get your stuff

>>>Is the gear worth more than the car?

Not quite, but close. I had everything I need and the car was a no worries weekend outdoor machine and a totally loaded bug out vehicle if the shit ever hit the fan.  Never worried about people stealing because the car was beat up with beat up camping boxes and thought no one would pay it any mind.  Sucks sucks sucks.

Cop came over (probably the first time I have let one in my house) and took the report.  He said Subarus are the new thing in car stealing and the keys for one often work for keys of another.

Just telling myself its just stuff, but I am still pissed to no end.   At least I don't live in Aleppo.

Sorry to hear of this and hope the police can find it for you. While not as serious, I had my locked mountain/road hybrid bike stolen from right outside our front door a little over a month ago and still feel a bit violated. Fucking scumbag thieves are scummy.

>>and the keys for one often work for keys of another.

Yup. Not the only car this happens with either.

That sucks Ken!  Hope the fuzz finds the dirtbag and you get it back!

That is SUPER HARSH !

all the best Ken

That feeling of being violated sucks. Hoping the best for you.

Let It Go lyrics

Awww, man, they took my car, rode away in my ride,
I know attachment is the root of my suffering cuz it hurts me,
it hurts me deep inside.
the hole ain't in my pocket, it's in my pride.
I told the police it didn't matter, but I lied.
Now my mind tells me to kill 'em,
my heart tells me that's wrong, my wife tells me
"Go get a better one, it's what you wanted all along."
I got to find a way to let this go,
got to put this behind me,
let my better nature show up one time here, but...

Tsk...awww man, they took my car!
Left me without my wheels.
I know the loss is superficial, but that's not,
that's just not how it feels.
How can somethin' superficial feel so real?
It's an emotional blow, rocks me back on my heels.
You know I had a picture on the dashboard
of my baby in her sweet little Red Sox hat,
and now there's some litttle bum with a button in his
tongue who thinks he might like a piece of that.
How I'm s'posed to take that sittin' down?
I can't do it man, I got to get up,
I got to go walk around, get me some air...

Standin; outside here ...all right...this is better...
you know I'll be all right...I'll get out here...forget
about these things...these things are insignificant...
you know it's not worthy, a man of my stature,
to think about things like that...it's all right...
OK, man I'm back where I belong....forget aaall about it...

Tsk tsk, man, but they took my car!
It's like it vanished in the air.
Three thousand pounds of wheels and
sounds that used to make folks,
used to make 'em stop and stare.
Now except for a little pile of glass the pavement's bare.
I keep lookin' 'round, it keeps not bein' there.
You know I should listened to my sensible self,
I shoulda parked it in a lot.
It woulda cost me $16.50 'stead of all the cool I got.
You know I got to reassert control,
All right, this is like water off a duck's back,
I'll just let it roll...

Got to let this go.
I don't know if I can do it, I'll try...
I'll let you know...Coulda, shoulda, woulda
how was I to know?
Nobody better say I told you so. All right, it's OK...
let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go...

Very sorry for the sad news, Mr. Portland Ken.

I really hope that your vehicle gets back to you without much physical damage.

Wishing you the best of Luck.

That really sucks, Ken.

Never thought Subarus would be attractive to thieves.

My wife has reported that her key unlocks other Subies parked nearby, and vice-versa. Or was it unlocked, or did they break in?

Hoping for a swift return,  and the end of your bad Car-ma.

Lame.  Super sorry to hear.  Had me anxious walking out to our Subaru this morning.

sorry man - fuck that NOISE

those 97's were great subys

Guess you won't leave all your crap in your car ever again.

That sucks. Sorry to hear this

that sucks

maybe god's gettin you back for being a lesbian

Sorry Ken, that blows.

I've had two different cars stolen from me in my lifetime, both many years ago.
Horrible feeling.
Lost a lot of good tapes the first time.
I was quite upset.

Sorry to hear Ken. :(

">>>>>>>>and the keys for one often work for keys of another.

Yup. Not the only car this happens with either.<<<<"

That's the only nice thing about newer cars having chips in the key. Until that chip dies and your car won't start because it doesn't recognize the key.

Sorry to hear about this. Being violated does suck. Had my car broken into and was so pissed! That happened long ago so I'm over it, haha.

Anyway, hope they find your car and gear.

Even though most if not all here hate cops, they do serve and protect in most cases where help is needed.

I said most, not all.

Ken -- I know the feeling & can sympathize

had my car stolen in Oakland, CA about 6 years ago... I'll never forget the feeling when I went out and first discovered it was gone... totally fuckin' sucks

Sorry Ken that sucks.  A strange car to steal.  They have been watching it for a while, or know you.  That sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes.  There are some funny quirks about my car that makes me suspect they wouldn't have gone far.  Still no word from the cops, but I imagine and old Subaru can sit on a residential street in North Portland for a long time before it draws any attention.

Sucks man. Those old hondas and subarus are so easy to hotwire a three year old could probably figure it out.

Full tank, to boot?

That blows. Wonder what happened to it? I wouldn't be surprised if someone stole it just to joy ride for an hour on their way home to Camas

Someone made a last-minute decision to home for Christmas?

Sorry ken. I've had a car stolen 20 or so years ago, terrible feeling.  Might want to check thrift stores/ consignment shops, ebay, or Craigslist for the camping gear

That sucks!

My 98 Outback key would start 2 other outbacks that i know of.  :(

But it would not open their doors?

That's very harsh ... I used to own a '98 in a similar color.

Not sure how insurance will handle it, but I suspect they don't quite assign the same value that you as an owner feel it's worth.   If it runs well to your liking or purposes, it can be difficult to find a replacement vehicle with said funds which you know to at least be on par with your old vehicle.

Regardless, hope it turns out as well as it can for you.

Looks like its part of a much larger Subaru snatching crime spree in Portland:

Any news on the car, Ken? This still sucks.

That really sucks, so sorry and best of luck getting it back...

No news, which is a bummer.   I talk to so many people who mentioned how they got a car stolen once, and then they got it back within a few days or even hours.   My son is in town for the holidays so we spent much of Boxing Day driving around North Portland to all the parks and areas near homeless camps looking for it.

So sorry. Terrible.

Totally sucks.

I owned the same car, same color, same year.

In 2012 I was recording a CD with my bluegrass band at a studio in Emeryville, CA.
Parked right in front of the place adjacent to a park.
8 hours later came out and my subaru was gone.

24 hours later got a call from the cops who'd found my car a half mile away.
It was used for a joy ride and whatever shit I had in it was thrashed and trashed by the theif.

Bad part was - the day I was able to get back was the same day as the Ticker Tape Parade and rally for the SF Giants World Series win.
Just getting on the Bart Train from Glen Park in SF forced me to bribe someone at the front of the 50 yard long line of ticket buyers to purchase a ticket -
then I had to get past the Civic Center Crowd and get to the Oakland PD office to get a release form and then hire a cab to get me to East bumfuck Oakland
to the impound lot where I was charged a ridiculous bill which included fees for every moment of delay as the car sat in impound.

This kind of thievery is emotional rape but there's not a lot we can do about it except maybe by a steering wheel club and use it.
(Preferably by using it to beat the snot of thieves if you are lucky enough  to catch them in the act.

Good luck in '17.

impound fees suck, add insult to injury

A coworker of mine had their truck stolen just outside of Redding last night.

Thieves suck!

Well its a New Years miracle!    There was a note on my door when I got home today from someone saying my car has been parked in front of their house for a while and they assumed it was friends visiting the neighbors.   They must have gotten my address from some mail in the car, but anyway got the car back in one piece.   It was only three blocks from the house.

The thieves cleared out several hundred dollars worth of camping equipment and other outdoor gear, but they overlooked a little AR-7 I had in the car top carrier.   Its a survival rifle that breaks down and stores into the stock.  Unless you are familiar with it, you probably won't know what you are looking at.   They also left a K-Bar that had stashed under a seat, a bunch of CDs, and my National Forest maps, all shit I was bumming about,   Now its time to do the thorough sifting and a good opportunity for a good cleaning.  I will be wary of needles they might have left there.

wonderful news!!!!!!

Wow! Happy new year!

WHAT ! Amazing Ken SO Happy ! HNY 2017 Rob !

So glad you got your car back!  Thieves suck.

great news, you must be stoked.

i know that feeling of getting something back ! - i lost my wallet twice with quite a bit of cash in it both times and got it back twice with all the cash.

That's great!

 It's a beautiful thing.

That is such great news!!! Wow!

Great news

Within the last 2 weeks I must have left my Subie unlocked overnight, something I "never" do.  Some very gentle soul carefully moved a few things so s/he could get the coins in the area I set aside for that, opened up the middle console thing, and left everything in it after checking it all out, even the very good smallish binoculars! It didn't appear that the glove box had been looked at. I was very lucky.

get out there and steal that suby back, I love my forester, even at 10 years old and with 284k I wouldn't trade it for anything. And I'd have to kill someone if they stole it

Good news Ken!

Damn. Glad you got the car back, sucks about the camping gear.

In '07 I had my car stolen in downtown Portland, and found 24 hours later up in forest park. There was nothing to steal in it, but they destroyed the tape deck trying to get it out of the dash...

at least they didnt have a hobo sex party in there cheeky

>>> hobo sex party

No sign of that thankfully.  However, many years ago when I was dating my ex wife in Missoula, we returned to her place after an extended trip to Oregon.  Her room had a separate entrance in the back and when we got there, the roommates explained how they caught two homeless guys getting it on in her bed and ran them off with bats.   One of them left their wallet and we got to see his picture.  Ewww.  Needless to say, there was some serious deep cleaning the night we got back.

Congratulations on your Reunion brother!  I too have concerns b/c my oldie Accord is a car theif fav. and have read they easy to boost.  Seems like Club ends up being work for me daily but no hinder for stealer.

Read about DIY LoJack using burner cell running Prey wired to car battery.  Mini-MacGyver figured would have enough charge to track item for short period(s) of time.

Any thoughts or Zone ideas to deter the sub-lifes to go elsewhere?
