The Paramount on L.I. for me on Monday, first time seeing Fripp..

Fripp is so classy...he probably wears a suit in the shower.

Looking forward to the show tonight in Albany !!!

Oh yeah!! cant wait for the Greensburg show in a couple weeks... This band is so tight and firing on all cylinders...

I might do the Cleveland show the day after Thanksgiving if I can swing it.

I am also seeing King Crimson at the Paramount Monday, on Robert Fripp's side, pretty close I think?

Between now and then I have to go through a musical metamorphosis.

I am seeing Reggae legend Freddie McGregor. Seems like I am like the only one in attendance & may just smoke a fatty with him and chat.

Then on Sunday afternoon I am seeing Denny Laine (from Wings) &  Steve Holey (Wings -Ian Hunter) for e benefit at 3PM.

King Crimson Monday Night at 8PM.

Its a good show, Ive seen them a few times the last few years including this tour. Fans can be a down right pretentious lot, tho

Caught Redbank last summer.

So good.

^I was at the Red Bank show myself. Such an amazing time. I wasn’t sure what to expect with 3 drummers, but given Fripp’s penchant for perfection I should have known. They were great!  Going to the Allentown show Saturday too.

I guess they don't allow cameras.

That Jaco guy was in a KC cover band with Giles and MacDonald before getting Fripped into shape.

Fripp is really strict about the cameras and any electronic devices in general. There’s an announcement before each show that they’ll let you take phone pics after the encore & I believe he even said if you’re seen trying it during the performance, you’ll be asked to leave.

Pretty refreshing really & I like to bring my camera to shows.

21st Century Schizoid Band was made up of musicians who’d all been in KC at one point or another with the exception of Jakko. I never saw them, but a friend did & said they were excellent. They put out a live album that’s actually really good.

I need a set of Lime Plyers!

Hahaha

It's a great invention. I bet Fripp has the patent on it.

Had planned on attending the Allentown,  PA shoe in a few days,  but the fellow said that the Mother-In-Law's  Grand-Niece  is coming to town for Brunch,  so that is basically  Cancelled.

I'm over it : ::  Allentown is no Amarillo.

Then again,  Gallup is no Amarillo wink

It's been said before,

And I'll say it again....

GO TO THE SHOW!!!

How was the show last night RRG?

Pretty damn spectacular!!

November has been bringing some very special shows.

The cousins from CT are in town,

so it’s dinner in the city, no show for me.

Disco, if you can find a sitter for your hound

I have your miracle Crimson tik.

or are you all flint?

Found this article about the 40th anniversary release of the King Crimson live album Eartbound from their 1972 tour. The release will also include a dvd. Should be good.

Not entirely sure why it’s the 40th as it was originally released in 1972, but oh well

8C2C6370-209D-4CBE-98AB-D7A173BA022E.jpegEnded up with great seats tonight. I thought they were 7th row, turns out they’re 3rd on Fripp’s side.

I like to imagine fripp having hired goons to remove unauthorized tapers and photographers from the audience who then put the boots, medium style, to the unfortunate concert attendees in the back alley behind the venue while he silently watches from the shadows smoking a cigarette.

Fripp apparently got so frustrated with cameras in Toronto last time, that he skipped the encore. When I saw him, near the end, he was pointing accusingly at some one filming in the balcony, and his roadie shone his flashlight on the guy. Funnily enough, full show videos of both nights (shot from the balcony) surfaced within days.

I think the unauthorized photos are what led to having a few moments after the encore to allow the audience to take pictures of the band (and vice versa). It's now something they do every night. They only ask that no one takes pics during the performance (certainly a reasonable request). Fripp seems to have no problem with folks walking up to the stage & taking pictures of the equipment either, which I never would have expected.

The show itself was nothing short of phenomenal. The band is tight & I continue to be impressed with the way the 3 drummer setup works. Those guys really seemed to be tuned into each other.

Thanks Chuck.  I am 7th row tonight at the Paramount in Huntington and I now know the protocol.

My friend was on camera duty at Lisner.

No jackboots in the alley, she said she doesn't own any jackboots.  She was intrigued however

21st Schizoid Band was great when I caught them at the Birchmere.

I think Jakko is the best singer including Lake.

Chuck, you must have been just a few rows ahead of me at the Miller.  Great place to see a show!  I was in Row F in Orchestra Right (Fripp's Side).

As far as sides go, I sat on the left at the Lisner, in the middle in San Diego, and on the right in Allentown.  I prefer the center because you get the "stereo effect" the best from the three drummers.   You can't go wrong sitting anywhere in the places they're playing.

A 2018 European Tour is being announced this week.    Might be time for me to visit Poland and the Czech Republic again!  (I doubt I'll go.)

>>>  I prefer the center because you get the "stereo effect" the best from the three drummers.

That's not what's happening here. {Stereo is a single dry signal (with no delay) and a single signal with a slight delay}

What Fripp is doing is breaking down a proper recording into a broadcasted live show.

The center drummer is more responsible for the exact time syncopation. Both musically (in it's bar) and electronically. He has a PC with samples and is also riding a SMPTE time signature (by eye).

The drummer to the right is ridding the entire kit and is the "lead drummer ( no PC). The drummer to the left's main objective is to the large tom-tom fills, bass drum (Bonham like rolls), Linn drum and keyboards as well.

Robert Fripps side is the optimum side to be since that's where the lead drummer is if you are close enough to not be relying on the back audiences' sound reinforcement in any way, you then hear it as Fripp does, which is sick.

Thanks for the explanation.  To me, third row center seemed the most impressive when it came to enjoying the drummers.  The other two shows I was about six rows back close to the extreme sides.   I do agree that Fripp's side was better than the other side.   Truly amazing wherever you sit.

Great as long as your inside.

This way they can also produce perfect recordings of the tour, to sell as box sets on the next tour. Which they have done the last 2 years and will do next year.

The drum solos are orchestrated and dead center in the middle of the core second set solo - they stop for moment and point their arms with drums sticks pointed straight up, like the swords of The Three Musketeers, and in a tight unison they tumble back into the solo. Truly amazingly tight..

This is also showcased on The Hell Hounds Of Krim, which is written by the 3 drummers.

The older King Crimson- Bill Buford stuff actually took 3 drummers to pull off. :respect:

Just returned from a fine King Crimson show at the Hard Rock Rocksino in Northfield,OH (near Cleveland, OH).

6th row Fripp side with a perfect view of all players. (Gavin and Robert licks abounding!)

8th Crimson show(?) for me, but first since 2013 reformation.

Drumsons!

Mel Collins is a gift from the spirits!

The man played a wide assortment of wind instruments from flute to baritone.

The setlist showcased a wide swath of the band's history, but

ITCOTCK favorites made it for me!    (Not a show review, just an observation.wink)

Thanks Deadly for that review/observation.
