I'd call Jackie Greene legendary  but Chris Robinson not so much.

i wonder what ross james' calendar looks like?

Ross is busy finding the perfect children's book for Phil's story time.

I'm pretty, pretty sure Ross has pics that Phil doesn't want anyone to see

The way they promote some of these gigs just makes me chuckle.

Mostly the Phil shows.

Special guest here. Special guest there. This year. That year.

Don't need gimmicks. Just tell them when you are going to play and you still should do just fine.

Imho.

I'm assuming that Ross James will be traveling with Phil during these shows.

Phil is at the Cap May 26-27, but where is he in June?

Now it seems Phil will be in Monterey June 16-18, or at least one of those days.

>>>>>>You never know who might show up!

aka neither do they because nobody has confirmed and they'll throw something

together with anybody come show time.

Biggest name they might get is Bob Weir.

fail.

That's pretty much what it sounds like to me; some one-off open-ended jammin' shows.

What's wrong with that?

The way they write up their adds?

Or maybe it's the price. There is a price to be paid.

As always value is relative, but I'll bet a nickel the little room will be hopping and the shows will be good, and maybe better than that.

Because it generally always is, and they generally always are.

And hoover, they didn't say anything about "biggest name". They said "some of the bay area's finest musicians".

There's a difference.

I predict some some fine jams and some irritating caterwauling.

And some synth-y, two chord, RastaJams if that McDougal guy is involved.

Chris Robinson is a fantastic singer with Rock and Roll in his blood. These shows will be a lot of fun.

Does that mean no Crob for da May shows?

The proximity to the Monterey Pop Festival adds some intrigue. Wouldn't be surprised to see CR in Monterey.

"I'd call Jackie Greene legendary  but Chris Robinson not so much."

I'm hoping that due to the vagaries of internet posting I'm missing that this was meant in jest.

>>>>>The way they write up their adds?

yeah, at least that's my issue with it.

Totally agree it will be a fun bit of rock n roll.  How about advertising it like that instead of pretending there is some big surprise in store?

Alan Forbes poster

^^^ that poster is heavy on the domesticated animals

cows, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, geese, pigs, llamas/alpacas, bison... plus a lone raccoon and maybe a mouse

yee-haw

Lookin' deep into that poser. Not much goin' on on a Monday night, eh Gary?

^^^ haha Tom, you nailed it

been listening to discs from the newly released box set of the GD May 1977 run

New Haven, Boston, Cornell/Ithaca, Buffalo

esp. like the 5/8/77 Barton Hall show, as I attended that one

Went To The Show = WTTS!

The lineup for at least the first show...

^Looks good to me.  I like Isaiah Mitchell's sound.

Johnny,

You'll love the twin guitar attack of Ethan and Isaiah. The were in the band Howlin' Rain together and it was guitar heaven. Ethan also played guitar in Comets On Fire. This band will be really good, especially with Adam on key's.

Have fun guys.

Now in color

Alan Forbes killing it as usual.

dude is a machine. Every time I look up he's completed a new poster/album/shirt design.

He was really great on Howard stern this morning

What are the chances of Phil playing with CR on the 16th?

I know who WONT be playing

smh

"I'd call Jackie Greene legendary  but Chris Robinson not so much."

>>>I'm hoping that due to the vagaries of internet posting I'm missing that this was meant in jest<<<

I'd say Jackie is pretty legendary on the zone, but I can't remember if he's the ham or the eggs.

Raja sighting!

 this I'd like to hear.

Check out Howlin' Rain's cd "Live Rain" blistering on the edge of madness guitar slinging.

anybody got any extra's ?

If anyone is looking for a pair, let me know. Not going to be able to make the trek from San Jose. e-mail in profile.

I have a single for sale for tonight (5/25) after Dan get's rid of his.  Email in profile.

Hey Dan, I don't see your email address?

I could use 3 tix in all, but no e-mail in blueledboy's profile

as I say at the door, I can give away your ticket, I can't help you sell it.

Scratch that, everyone bailed oon me - don't wanna drive alone. Thank anyway !

My two tickets are transfered to hophead. He may have an extra to sell.

Enjoy everyone, this show has potential for liftoff...

Dan, Your the Man, thank you so much for generosity. Vtra taken. Will report back to the crew with review.

I heard Chris has moved to Marin with his new family.

Also heard part of the reason was so he could be close to Terrapin.

No idea how true or untrue that is.

Chris just announced two solo acoustic shows at The Chapel.

sick band I heard they were doing covers from the Nuggets box set

From FB

Ethan's band Feral Ohms is one of the best in the area right now. True face melting wickedness, most hippies couldn't hang. Obviously Heron Oblivion are the best. Brother man's got it going on. Both WAY better than Howlin Rain

That was one hell of a rock n roll show. Thanks for posting the setlist. Talk about old school, loved it. No Dead tunes, tho I thought I heard a Bertha tease at the end.

Chris played guitar all night, had a bunch of tasty harp solos. Interesting that the bass & guitar players switched instruments all night. If this is the band in June, I think I will have to find my way back to Terrapin.

Thanks for the tix Dan.

Set list looks quite nice, review makes me want to go to one of the June shows, since I'll be down there. Hmmm.

Thanks, folks.

One of the best Chris shows, for sure

It was really, really rocking good fun. Highly recommended.

>>>> Obviously Heron Oblivion are the best. Brother man's got it going on.

looks like heron oblivion got some summer dates opening up for Steve Gunn.

Might have to try and catch one of those

I like the Brotherhood band, but I liked that band last night much better.

Just a little rock 'n roll!

Opening for Steve Gunn?!? I like him and his last few records but that's ridiculous, he should open for them

A long while ago CR curated some kind of proto-garage/deep psych rock playlist thing that I turned my nose up at. I think maybe PJ was there to confirm that he was selecting some legit shit. Didn't change my mind.

It's pretty clear that I was wrong. Dude has great taste. That setlist looks sick.

>> looks like heron oblivion got some summer dates opening up for Steve Gunn.

I think it might be the inverse, because he's going to be playing acoustic, it's probably Steve (and on a few dates, Steve & Jim Elkington) opening up for Heron. Those should not be missed. I've only caught Steve & Jim playing unaccompanied by a rhythm section once, but that was my first time seeing him play and it was fucking crazy good.

>> Opening for Steve Gunn?!? I like him and his last few records but that's ridiculous, he should open for them

Not for nothing, that would be an incredible bill, if it was Steve Gunn and his whole band there is no way they should open for him. His band opens portals.

The next lineup is even better!

Thanks to all the peoples who came out to the first ever Hootenanny Heroes at Terrapin Crossroads! Can't wait to do it again on June 9 when CR's Hootenanny Heroes' present the Green Leaf Rustlers featuring Barry Sless, Jason Crosby, Pete Sears & John Molo! Tix are almost gone! Grab 'em now

>>>>>if it was Steve Gunn and his whole band there is no way they should open for him. His band opens portals.

yeah, they should just do that.

anybody with connections wanna make a few phone calls to get that together?

elkington can start the evening solo acoustic on a few dates.

thanks in advance,

furious me

The 9th sounds good but I can't be there; I wonder what the 16th will bring...

Judit, if you are going to be in the area on the 16th you should go ahead and grab a ticket! The 9th is sold out now.

Okay, I shall. thanks.

Done. Thanks for the push, Zooey.

Have fun!

That drummer Justin Smith is kicking ass, laying it down like a boss. Every now and then it's refreshing to see a drummer who doesn't fuck around but drives the band without all the wishy washy bullshit.

Grovel

Zooey is s complete Zoner star

That setlist is sweet.  Good to see the Jamband crowd rediscovering their Garage Psych roots.  There's gold in them thar hills!  Hope Jill  and Phil were twistin' and fruggin'.

Yep- Zoner magic x 2, please

also looking for a ticket!

The next lineup per FB:

CR's Hootenanny Heroes continues at Terrapin Crossroads this Friday, 6/16 with Dave Schools, Adam MacDougall, Jay Lane & Greg Loiacono.

Thanks, Zooey, I've been waiting to see wh0 I'm going to hear.

Love Wheels, thanks for the link. The BC always did some killer Flying Burrito Brothers covers, Wheels included.

Have fun at the show Judit and all that go.

I've never seen Chris Robinson before and just picked up a ticket to the CR Brotherhood show at The Space in Westbury, NY in November.

I would love to join Judit for the show this Friday, so if anybody has an extra ticket, please send me an email (in my profile).

Much appreciated,

Johnny D     smiley

John, just got your voicemail. Friday at TXR would be great, so would sooner. I'll call you today.

WOW! The to much fun club. Johnny D has all the fun smiley

Greg Loiacono is one of my favorite guitar players.

Have fun Judit

Hey Bart,

I've been thinking about you and yours.  And sending all the best wishes your way - JD

Thanks, Bluelight and Bart! Looking forward to being there, friends, the music, the reflections on the canal.

This is surprisingly fun - some rock and roll, some  bluesy stuff, music to move to.

Glad you are there and having fun Judit!  Gonna come see my new house and meet Nellie?

Hi Mark. I can't make it to your new house this trip, maybe in September? I think that's when I'll be back down here.

It's funny; I wrote my 12:52 post during the first set and the music seemed varied, interesting, and fun. Partway through the second set I noticed I wasn't as engaged by the music and was beginning to think during the songs. Part of what I thought was that I wished it was instrumental only. I've enjoyed Chris Robinson's voice in the past, but this time his singing in every song was sounding like the one before it. I wasn't familiar with Greg Loiacono and like him, and liked the rest of the band as well.

Also, live music is pretty emotional for me and that was true this time. I started missing Greg and found myself tearing up more than I have in a while, so I left midway through the second set.

It was good to see Froggy, HippoMon, jamjuice, Peak and Lance, as always.

Enjoyed hanging with the folks above.  So wonderful to see Judit as always.  (((Greg)))

Good dance grooves, fun set list, nice line up.  The sandbox was a tad sticky.. but all in all a great night out.

Great to see you as well Ms. J.

I actually thought the first song and the last song were the best of the show. Robinson really dug into his rockin' Black Crowes roots on that Zeppelin tune.

These Hootenanny deals were three very different shows with three very different bands.

IMO the first of the three was easily the best.

Robinson should take that band on the road.

All three were fun shows though, all three were fun times.

Just a little rock 'n roll. It's all I ask.

On it goes.

How many bands does this guy have?

THanks for the vid links.

They also played one of my favorite Ann Peebles tunes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb9iOk4KHaA

I can see that I missed some great songs by leaving when I did. Oh well...

I'm down with Barry on the tele!! I feel like I can hear his actual voice with that guitar. I like when he plays with Phil but kinda naturally gets restricted to playing Jerry licks. He breaks away from that more with DNB. Cool to hear him in a different setting.

Thanks for the links - wanted to hear these when first heard about them

Here's the first one, and the best one.

Or at least the most rockin' one.

Thanks for posting, I wanted to check out the 6/16. Nice looking setlist besides some (imo) possible clunkers scattered about.

I know what the 6/9 lineup probably sounds like, this one not so much.

^^ 6/16 is rockin as well   Thats like your opinion man.....laugh
