Colbert Interviews Pete Townshend

Forums:

20 very entertaining minutes, including Townshend's recollection of taking Owsley STP shortly after the Monterey Pop Festival while flying on an airplane.

That was great.  Thanks!

Whatever became of STP?  I recall hearing it was a powerful psychoactive drug that induced a lot of bad trips.  I've never come across it.

> I've never come across it.

Nor have I, but I've read the trips can last for days.

It's the spacer's edge.

thanks for the laughs

wasn't it Phil's book that talked about Jack Cassidy high on stp climbing the walls like an iguana in the Santa Cruz County Jail?

I remember seeing I'm warm all over for STP stickers in the early 80's at shows but never came across any.

We've lost STP, quaaludes and mescaline.

What happened to this country? *sigh*

Heard a story that when stp hit the streets of New Orleans in the 70's the dealers voluntarily took it off the market because people were getting too knocked out

maybe it was another drug

Sasha Shulgin synthesized DOM, which became known as STP, while he worked for Dow Chemical, and later provided Owsley with information about its synthesis.

Brother Duane Allman rocking the shirt at Piedmont Park in the ATL.  The cops were starting to crack down on the Sunday jams and the shirt either meant "Save the Park" or "Stop the Pigs" depending on where you stood on the radical scale.

Today they would just send in Trump's army, the domestic one.

Shulgin's entry about DOM in PIHKAL: https://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/pihkal/pihkal068.shtml

I find this sentence about a 3 mg dose from the above intriguing: "Colors are not just brighter; there are more of them."

>We've lost STP, quaaludes and mescaline.<

A buddy who was an innie (knew O) gave us some silver needles mescaline before heading into a Pink Floyd show at the Spectrum in 77. I swear we wore notches into the wooden armrests by night's end. Gripping evening, you might say. Was it the mescaline or Pink Floyd? I can't remember what was different about it except for the elongated crsytals. We went back the next night too, of course :)

I love mescaline. Especially williamsii. Known as the Grandfather. A true heart-opener. It's not lost at all. Just gotta poke around.  I was invited, and hope to visit a peyote sanctuary in Texas this summer.

It is life altering to experience these sacred medicines in the context of an indigenous ceremony where their spirit is used with the intent of healing and bonding hearts. Far more powerful of an experience when the energy is driven inwards, imo,  than when it is spent on external distractions.  Understandable though, because it is far more uncomfortable for most people to face what's inside.

I would highly recommend a properly run Grandfather ceremony and Grandmother ceremony to everyone here. Expect them each to be exceptionally powerful.

That link was Pete taking the Colbert questionnaire, here's the actual interview from a few weeks ago, which is also excellent;

we havent lost mescaline at all. there are mescaline containing cacti growing legally, all over the place. sometimes you can find them at the home depot, and there are plenty of sources online for dried san pedro chips. its a little bit involved, but not to hard and is a fun process to extract them. lophs are also still pretty common among cactus collectors and not to hard to come by, but it would be pretty expensive and/or very slow going to buy/grow them for consumption, much better to just use san pedro.

you dont need to know owsley to get great needlepoint mescaline, you just need a basic understanding of acid base extractions and a free weekend to go thru the process. my bud who makes my favorite mescaline sulfate isnt some maverick clandestine chemist, he's just a rando dude who works for a company selling wood burning stoves. its pretty easy stuff thats perfectly appropriate for a non-chemist. might take a few practice runs to get those real nice white needlepoint crystals but its very doable. to make the needlepoint stuff you need to use sulfiric acid and make the sulfate salt, using hydrochloric acid to make the hydrochloride salt ends up pulling a bit more impurities and secondary alkaloids and you end up with larger tan crystals, usually with a sandy sort of texture.

mescaline generally isnt found on the commercial black market because its so expensive to produce and needs to be sold for a very high price per dose compared to stuff like L or mushrooms. any commercial "mescaline" that doesnt cost an arm and a leg is suspect and probably isnt real mescaline. its also important to remember that a dose of mescaline is in the 300-500mg range, so we are talking about a large gelatin capsule with a fairly large amount of material inside. it is physically impossible to fit a dose of mescaline into things like blotter paper, microdots or windowpane/geltab sort of things, so ALL of that kinda stuff with absolutely zero exceptions whatsoever is NOT mescaline and is usually L or DOC/DOI/DOB misrepresented as mescaline. i guess these days it could also be a compound from the nBOME series of drugs but those are fairly new.

and yeah, DOM is gone for the most part, but DOC and DOI are still unscheduled in the US and can be found via research chemical sources and/or the darkweb. after trying a bajillion different weird psychedelics including DOC and DOI i ended up coming to the conclusion that aside from 2C-E, pretty much everything out there is inferior to L and mescaline so ive been out of the loop on all that kinda stuff for quite awhile now...but DOC and DOI are absolutely still out there.

90s orange barrels

phish knows

Great fun with Pete. Thanks for the link.

same idea

different barrel

I thought STP was an oil filter.

As usual, I'm way behind the curve.

My first trip in June 1969 was on mescaline - big blue cap. Had to pick up a new surfboard that day, which was a trip in itself, but I made it to the water with the new stick, and was soon riding 5 foot waves of purple jelly in slo mo.

Used to encounter it in the Boston area quite often in the early 70s. Mostly San Pedro here on the left coast.

joe hope Texas treats you well this summer

was thinking about pete's rumor of some #manboylove

SC's questionairres are fun in general tho

((((fave sammy>>most dangerous animal)))))

Jill, i hope to get to go. Those freaks haven't let me down yet.

One thing I love about them is when we get together, there's never been a conversation about politics, sports, or anything from the news. Nothing.  Real people/real conversations.  Hard to beat rugs, hugs, and healing.

in these times i couldn't agree more

my one and only taste of mesc was at a western gd show, some guy shared some, and it def made the show more fun

one and only dmt at gotv one year at dawn, something that would be fun to experience again, so swirly !!!

otherwise: dose me~!
