Compton Terrace 12-6-92

Forums:

What a weekend. The only shows I ever attended in AZ.

Lot security were hard-faced Indians on horseback, at least to my recollection.

Very small venue (20,000) for the delay-speaker set up. The sound was better back on the hill than up front. Bobby loud in the mix and sounding great.

Why weren't the vocal monitors on at the beginning of Here Comes Sunshine? Hippies.

How so, T? I don't know the place.

Nice sounding SBD. Great pace and harmonies on that FOTD. Well played first set, just getting into the second. Thanks for sharing.

This was my second set of shows at Compton Terrace. One of the great lesser known venues. Highlight for me was holding my pregnant girlfriend in my arms at the top of the hill, watching the sunset and Jerry serenading us with Brokedown Palace. 24 years later and she's still my girl.

I was there and while I was happy that they busted out with HCS - the guitar player in me was disappointed in the re-arrangement of the tune that totally scratched the great Jerry intro lick interwoven with Bobby's arpeggios.  And to boot all that Vince Welnick caliope keyboard tone was irksome to me.  Still the spirit of the thing was cool.

>How so, T?<

huge wide open terraces. wide enough for a  few people. tons of space. short people can see.

Always enjoyed Firebird Lake. Saw all the shows there.

Has it really been 24 years? And where does the time go, afterall?

Those were the days: when hearing Phil sing a verse in Maggie's Farm seemed like such a treat; when Jerry's pealing solos in Althea or Playin' made all the traveling seem worth it. When an enterprising young college student could fly in with a qp of mushrooms get rid of it at bargain prices and pay for the whole trip, allegedly. Like a bunch of you, this was my second trip to Compton Terrace (first was two years earlier), and I was so happy to go back. An idyllic little venue--I wonder what it looks like now--we camped out and had a great time with many friends. Thought those days would never end.

Enjoying this stream now for the first time in a long while. I appreciate this thread.

It no longer exists-- torn down in 2010

I climbed up on top of a bus and took a picture of the crowd in both directions,

it was on the fridge for many years, what a great weekend!

I remember leaving the venue with everybody mooing like cows(makes Me lol to this day)cause we were all packed in like cattle!

great shows. drove from sf straight thru. I do remember hippies getting the beat down from huge indians just for the ganja.

had to smoke in the back of car with blanket over me. Crazzzy!!!! Great venue though. Jerry was wearing a green turtle neck with cut off jeans!!

Groooovvvvy.... Show was over around 630 got in the car and drove back to sf for class the next day starting at 230.  it was pouring rain the whole

way. great memories. Peace

i recall following an ambulance out of the parking lot after the second show. the only way to exit without it taking a couple hours.

Jerry in a green turtleneck; Where's the picture?

Fun shows. Was in the front row for the HCS breakout show, with a good camera.

Had a friend who lived in Tempe so we all hung out there and raged the whole time.

I didn't hang in the lot so missed that action, but heard about a bunch of folks getting busted

for minor amounts of drugs.

i was living in Humboldt and went to these, the 5 Oakland shows and the two JGB shows

at the Warfield near the end of the month. Had to go back to Humboldt multiple times, and

later figured out it was about 3,200 miles of driving all together.

So glad I made it to all of those. Quite a month.

Just looked at a few photos and no, he was not wearing

a turtleneck; he was wearing a green long-sleeved shirt.

(Sleeves rolled up). I don't think he wore a turtleneck on stage

since '74.

The sound was awsome at that show
