I was pleasantly surprised by this contribution from Timpy on a thread I started the other day about reconnecting and bridging the divide, given his words during the campaign season.

I'll take a run at it, judit.

Timpane seems to see Viva as a divided community comprised of 30-something resident trolls (e.g. himself, ogkb, ateix), and prett much everyone else. He also seems to think that the 30-something resident trolls have been unfairly persecuted when ogkb and ateix recently received time-outs for their conduct on Viva.

The problem with the idea that admin here are "playing one side" and "not calling the game both ways" is that Sixer also received a time-out recently, and a much longer one than ogkb and ateix, if we can believe what RRG posted (60 days), and I believe we can.

Timpane seems to think that other, older zoners--such as Racket and TOD, and perhaps others--should also be given time-outs (for their conduct on Viva and elsewhere) to square accounts.

I'm not trying to put words in Timpane's mouth here, but that's how it plays for me. I also get a sense that he might have been put up to this little campaign by others. I've come to know Timpane's posting style pretty well over the last year, and his outbursts today seem out of character in some ways, but this is just me speculating wildly at this point.

jonas, in a perfect world, shunning is probably the best method of socialization for dealing with those who transgress community rules and standards. That's not where we live though. We all know it's best to ignore trolls, but for that to be effective, everyone has to do it, and it needs to be done consistently.

What usually happens is members of a community will try to point out what they see as wrongdoing, and encourage bad actors to act in ways that are acceptable within the community. Your 2:37 pm post is a good example of that; you pointed out what you thought was wrongdoing ("piling on"), and suggested a preferred course of action ("should graciously back off"). That's mostly what I saw go down in this thread, but of course, YMMV.

I'm super far behind this year. I'll have to buy starts even though I have about $100 in seeds I binge-shopped last year, I got lazy about prepping the garden soil with compost, getting starts ready, and all of the sudden it's spring!  At least my perennial veggies, grapes, and berries are kicking ass. Artichokes are already loaded, one has 12 huge buds the other has 6, and all my herbs look amazing.
