Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile and the Sea Lice

Forums:

Can't wait to hear this album.

Already got a ticket for the Oakland Fox.

Anybody on the Viva like this stuff? I'd hitchhike across country for the whole tour if I didn't have a wife and son.

+1

I like Vile more all the time, haven't warmed up to Barnett yet but haven't given her much of a chance.

That PA War on drugs scene has turned into one of the most promising musical hubs for cultivating new quality artists of the last 10 years:

Vile, Steve Gunn, Cian Nugent, Jim Elkington, etc.

Really good stuff

Cian Nugent at Bottom of the Hill last year was fantastic.

I need to see those other guys next year.

i need atiex to translate

I'm stoked to see the War on Drugs for the first time at the Berkely greek in October.

Seriously doubt the new album can beat or even equal 'Lost in the Dream' but I wish them all the best.

I just got a ticket for this. Thanks.

I have some War on Drugs shows I'm going to listen to on our long drive this weekend.

And some KV.

He's an intruder in their home. Self defense.

I've seen Kurt Vile three times now. Last time was just a couple of months ago. That's nowhere near enough.

This will be a good one...

Love both their styles.

Steve Gunn is also in the Kurt Vile universe.... former guitar player for KV now ripping it on his own

Also if you like all of this stuff maybe Kevin Morby might be your thing too. He's a bit too dylanesque for me but he is popular with the kids, he was in that band Woods who now sounda bit like Paul Simon

Free show Sunday of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.

Kurt and Courtney?

Cute.

Here's the new War on Drugs;

So are these two different groups - Courtney Barnett, and then Kurt Vile and the Sea Lice; or is it Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile, and then the Sea Lice; is it three different groups, or is it all one group?

The inter-continental duo will share the stage, performing songs off their upcoming album as well as delving into their respective back catalogues and covering a bunch of classics, all backed by their band ‘The Sea Lice,’ a revolving cast of musicians including Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), Rob Laakso (The Violators, The Swirlies, Mice Parade) and Katie Harkin (Harkin, Sky Larkin and touring member of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Beasts). “A cookin’ band and an intercontinental country duo for the ages—minus the country,” says Vile.

So ultimately it's all one group. Cool, sounds interesting.

I just saw that they're playing HSBG on Sunday, maybe I'll see them there, but I am planning on going to the War On Drugs show at the Greek that Friday.

I know almost nothing about War On Drugs, except that a recording of theirs was playing as pre-show house music in the Grate Room at TxR one night maybe two years ago and it caught my ear. There was hardly anyone in the room at the time and I enjoyed what I heard so much I asked the guy who it was. I've missed them the last time or two they've come my way, but I am casually looking forward to seeing them at the Greek, even though now I can't really remember what they sounded like... dark & moody perhaps, Pink Floydish maybe?  I can't remember, I just remember being interested and thinking it could be good live.

I hesitate to watch or listen to anything of theirs now; I enjoy going into shows not really knowing what I'm going to get, as long as I have some reason to think that I could like it.

Pre-conceived expectations can be such a drag.

I'm going to watch some of this Courtney/Vile stuff though, because I know nothing of them.

I like'em. thanks slack

Check out Kurt's sit-in w/John Prine via the Hardly Strictly links.  Cool to see them both doing that thumb 'n' one finger thing.

I enjoyed them at HSBG.

kept my expectations relatively low for the new album and am liking it a lot so far.
