Also I got the common shots kids got in the Early 1970's,  but not the Monkey-virus contaminated Polio shots (lucky me).

I'm just not brave enough to be a lab-rat for an untested injection that is brand-new.

My 89 yr old Mom is in Asst Living now and I advocate for her by phone, and go to meet her at outside appts.  She received the vaccine and then a week later a major ( 36 pt's/ 40 staff) covid out break happened in her Dementia unit/facility. I am really worried about her, she has COPD and is now dehydrating. The asst living has had to relocate residents to other facilities because there is no staff to take care of them......a real sad situation. 

I also found out that when you become covid positive in between the first and second shot, you have to wait 90 days from your covid negative status until you can get the second vaccine. 


I have been everyday checking for schedule, just nothing around here.

 

My mom and dad went to get their vaccs and they turned away my mom because she made a mistake on her appointment form. Wtf? She was there, she's 80, and just had heart surgery in November, fucking vaccinate her! So pissed off rn.

heard 2nd hand that people getting the 2nd shot are having quite a bit of flu symptoms and associated pain in the injection site...

^I heard if you feel fluey and feverish after the second shot it is a good sign and that your immune system is kicking into gear.

My wife gets hers on Saturday but I have to wait. I'm jealous. 

I'm fortunate enough to be getting my first dose tomorrow.  Was told by a couple medical professionals to take Tylenol before the second to help alleviate any side effects.

I feel so vulnerable for a number of reasons (comorbidities). I just want the vaccine. I'm spending far too much time in medical facilities, though I have to say they're doing a good job of spacing patients except at the cancer center. Too many people in the waiting room, it freaks me out.

I just got my Mom a Covid vaccine appointment for today by calling the local Urgent care - in NJ

I'm in tier 1a as a health care worker, but haven't been able to secure an appointment yet.

Apparently, I have to keep checking in with Kaiser until I hit the jackpot.

It was very difficult to get an appointment, but my years of ticket buying experience served me well.  Be calm, be persistent. Clearly this distribution system is not working for everyone. This story mirrors my experience:

fevers, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, metallic taste, and fatigue r some of the symptoms experienced by people I've personally interacted with.

As cornbread alluded, some r even suggesting the better your immune system, the more likely you'll experience adverse affects, but I'm sure there's a lot of factors.

I'm sched for my 2nd Pfizer shot on Monday and hope it's not too crappy but I guess it's worth it to do my part in an attempt to help stop the spread.

My brother received the second Pfizer Jab on Monday.  Zero side affects, arm was even less sore than first round.

I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time on my phone when I secured my first shot. And I'm fortunate to be scheduled for my second Pfizer shot on the 2nd, because they are making sure you get your second dose here. Mild soreness at the injection site was only symptom with the first one. Say what you will about Florida's shithead governor, but the state is doing a pretty good job Imho. Publix has started having the vaccine available this week and my in-laws got appointments for both doses. Only bummer is my wife isn't 65 yet. 

Florida is getting it done, Publix is doing a fine job too.

My folks in Florida have been trying to schedule vaccinations, but its like trying to get tickets for a hot show.   You have to hover over the computer, ready to hit the button at the appointed hour and. . . . its gone.

I am so excited; I have an appointment for the first one on Saturday in the parking lot of the Community College. I could have done it on Wednesday but I couldn't add another appt to my life this week.

Got #2 yesterday. The major snowstorm on Wednesday moved my appointment to Sunday. Arm seems to be a little more swollen, but no headaches or major side effects.

I have been giving vaccinations with the county on weekends, its amazing how happy everyone is. It's really great to see so many thousands in one place, practicing safety  guidelines and actually caring about Covid. Unlike some "you ain't gonna tell me what to believe" idiots you see out there in public ...

It's also such an amazing contrast to the hospital scene at my regular job not even a year ago, just trying to keep people alive and off ventilators. For the first time, it feels like we're getting to the other side of this.

The way the process is structured, I can administer about 200 doses in a weekend doing 12 hr shifts.

Providers are administering about 1.61 million doses per day on average.

There are a lot of people in the US and everyone needs two doses. My wife got her second dose over the weekend and it was all amazingly efficient and this was in Yolo county no less.

In other related news, one of my schools notified us that we will almost assuredly be teaching online again in the Fall semester, and I'm totally okay with that. I'm in no hurry to go back into a classroom, and kinda like teaching barefoot.

Employees for the school district I worked for have gotten the OK to get jabbed, and even though I'm now retired and "just" 60, I am planning on working part-time/occasionally for the district again; in fact some of the students I'll be working with are already back on campus in small numbers (special needs students) so I'm able to slip into the line.

I'm all for it, except I'm concerned that down the line the vaccines given now won't work on the fast-morphing virus.

i received my Moderna second shot last week at 11 AM on Tuesday, by 5 pm i had chills. Woke up at 1:30 AM drenched in sweat. Later on Wednesday i felt hungover (took the day off). i've been good ever since. ymmv

Thanks Slick.  I got the Pfizer.  8 hrs later I felt a little fluish and just wanted to lay down.  So I went to bed(4-5 hrs before my usual bedtime) and slept 11 hrs. Feel OK today.

Yes you def shouldn't take anything preemptively. 

I was just remembering how when I was a kid I dreaded getting shots, and now I can't wait to get this one.

It'll be a drive-through on Saturday. I have to have the injection in my right arm and wonder what accommodation they'll have since I'll be driving. I know they've dealt with it before.

In the drive through I went to they  did either arm you just open the door of your car and they will accommodate.

Wife and I got the moderna today, super easy and quick. Had it in the right arm, my left arm is still sore from the December rotator cuff repair. Going for a walk now, looks like sunshine and 40 degrees. It's a heat wave in upstate NY, now if we could get the snow gone.

I just made an appointment to get my first jab (Pfizer) next Saturday, March 6th, through one of my schools.

I've had both doses of Moderna.  First one hit me pretty good roughly 24 hours after the shot. Low fever, pretty severe chills for about five hours.  Second dose 8 hours after had on and off chills for a couple hours and a low grade fever though the next day. Much less severe than the first. Everybody's different.  Hope you all get it soon. 

Yep, I started to feel weak, nauseous, and shaky today, about 24 hours after yesterday's dose.   More of an annoyance than a hardship.  Glad to be working at home right now.

My age group (55-65) are able to signup starting Monday. Wife and I will be right on it.  J + J just released 30,000 doses to ct that'll supposedly be arriving next week too. You can't choose what shot you get but I'm hoping for the 1 n done J + J

Just received my first Moderna vaccine. Second one scheduled in a month. I'm supposed to provide childcare for a neighbor while she has her baby in about a month, and will feel much less vulnerable watching  her two older kids. There's currently a Covid outbreak in the 'hood, a couple folks down with it, including one 3 year old, and more cases likely. One family hosted a super spreader bday party for a one year old 2 weeks ago..

Keep a close eye on the kiddos! My 2 year old contracted the virus in December...it's pretty scary stuff!

I'm actually dog sitting for a family whose 14 year old boy is at Stanford right now with stage 5 kidney failure. Diagnosed 2 weeks ago. Only 10 percent kidney function. They don't know the cause, I'm wondering if it could be Covid related. He's now on the transplant list. More reports of kids suffering organ failure as the virus attacks the immune system and shuts down major organ functioning. Very fuckin' scary. 

She had a fever and general flu symptoms for about 4 days. Fever never went past 102 but it was sustained even with Tylenol.She was pretty miserable but slept it off. The tough part was trying to isolate the rest of the family and limit contact. Fortunately no one else contracted it!

I took my wife up for her first Pfizer shot today, I've had both of mine.

I had no side effects from the first one, and pretty mild from the second. I felt a bit spaced that night

and a bit run down the next day, but nothing major. Some of my friends got it a bit rougher after #2.

As usual, YMMV.

so I have been attending Physical Therapy in a Building associated with, and attached to the Hospital in my County.

People (Hospital staff) around my age group are Smart and waiting a decade or so to see Kill - Off and such.

Younger groups are being adventurous Guinea Pigs. Probably about a 30% rate of willing Guinea  Pigs. 70% say, "OK let's see what happens to the Guinea Pigs."  People in my 40 - 50 ish demographic group are waiting to see,  although it's Free.

That's from the fifty or so workers in the Hospital scene where I attend Physical Therapy.  It's in the Hospital building,  but separate P/T Biz from Emergency Room and such.

The injection is free there,  if anyone wants the Pfizer version.  Most older and wiser Workers are waiting to see how many co-workers drop Dead or suffer any adverse effects before considering.

Been a Regular for many Weeks.  P/T people are great,  and experienced.  Definitely the younger people are more inclined toward the Guinea Pig experiment,  while older folks say "Let's wait a while and see."

My arm is hurting from the vaccine, took about 5 hours to feel the discomfort. And some brain fog..and irritably. Lol

9 days past second Pfizer shot. 

Sides both times were micro headaches lasting just minutes that came and went very infrequently for maybe 24 hrs and a barely noticeable dullness at the site of injection. 

The regular flu shot in Nov totally kicked my ass though. Last year I had a reaction, but not like the recent shot. I may be a senior citizen but I won't do the senior dose next time. Doctor said "That's unfortunate, the good news is your immune system is working well".

I've surveyed scores of people regarding Covid and honor both sides of the Covid vaccination coin.

Good arguments for either decision. 

My entire social orbit is the local medical community, outside of my children's schools. I don't know one adult that isn't getting the vax. I've also personally injected MANY and have yet to have one tell me they were reluctantly getting it or only doing so because they had to for their job...

While my entire social orbit has a bit more variety than the above, I have plenty of medical workers within it. Those who are medical workers track with the above...they all are getting vaccinated asap with no exceptions or reservations except the realization that all vaccines effect some negatively and that card can pop up. On a broader sampling, my observations are the polar opposite than DS's. The older/wiser demographic are enthusiastically lining up for vaccination at a much greater rate than younger people. They want life to return to like it was asap. Perhaps this is a side effect of being closer to death in general. I know I don't want to die before I can do many of things that I come to love in life. Perhaps DS's data sampling is not large enough to give valid results. Perhaps mine isn't large enough either to be statistically solid. Knowing DS I feel confident that my sampling is multitudes larger than his though. 

There's also an existing phenomenon that occurs with certain beliefs/topic areas where people don't want to engage(or shouldn't because they are representing their employer) so politely smile or nod or offer other short answers that are often misconstrued as agreement. This avoids having to enter volatile discussion areas and gently leads the discussion elsewhere.  This happens with Trump followers also and is often seen as confirmation by those not savvy enough to understand they are being led away from the topic

P/T xxxx tested positive with PCR test and was out for some time, decided for Pfizer jab.

P/T yyyy tested positive with PCR test and took some PTO,  opted out pending further data.

P/T zzzz never had any symptoms or PCR test,  not considering the Pfizer jab.

Those are some of the Physical Therapists I work with directly,  age range mid-20's to 40-something.  Then there are the people that work the various 'front desks' and deal with all forms of client/Therapist and Insurance co. interactions. They are closer to my age range (mid-50's) and aren't getting shot up anytime soon.

Each of those groups have assistants that help out in various ways keeping the wheels rolling.  It's a large operation,  not a strip-mall place.

Been going there for a while, so I've conversed with many of the workers.  No mandate or requirement from 'The Boss' but plenty of Laboratory Peer Pressure.

Judging from personal interaction and various conversations over time,  the younger people are more likely to get the injection compared to people closer to my age bracket.

Thanks! It's been very rewarding and the sense of community has been refreshing. Everyone there cares about Covid, it's kinda like a free zone with no political nonsense or bickering

No demonstrators in Santa Clara yesterday - there was a vaccine event at the Convention Center and another  one across the street at Levi's stadium. Just a steady stream of happy customers. 

Jaz, I slept in late this morning (usually up @ 5:30 or 6am), drank a bunch of coffee, then took a long nap.

My skepticism is based upon the masses acting as guinea pigs for an untested batch of drugs,  not disbelief in The Scientific Method.

Just to be clear,  I don't take any prescription drugs,  because I don't need them.  The occasional aspirin  and Vitamin supplements work just fine for me.  That's my choice,  and if yours is to take random drugs,  go right ahead.

This is not true. All of the vaccines have to go through clinical trials before they're released to the general public.

I got my first Covid Jesus shot today. Felt pretty lightheaded for like five mins after and the left side of my body (where I got the shot) kinda tensed up and still is kinda sore but overall not that bad. A guy got fired at the rite aid because he couldn't take peoples names down. Was very strange.

Got Pfizer, the timing for the second dose should work out perfectly to be before radiation actually begins.

I was a little lightheaded while sitting in the observation area, but I think that might have been because I was dehydrated. I'm drinking a lot of water now.

I also felt lightheaded but it went away quickly. I also have a fear of needles.

I can understand Stu's argument and in many cases I might agree, but my way of looking at this whole situation is that an evil enemy has invaded our country (the entire world) and for the past year this heartless enemy has completely occupied us in every region, every state, every town, an enemy that has killed half a million innocent Americans... so far.

We are all at war with this enemy, but up 'till now we have had no weapons to fight back and have been forced to shut down our entire society and cower in our homes, praying that the enemy will not choose us for death.

But now there is a weapon for us to pick up and fight back with. Highly skilled experts created the weapons. Yes, they were made in haste, but the best minds created them; they may not be perfect, there is risk and there are no guarantees, but as in all wars there is great risk & sacrifice to all who choose to pick up a weapon and join the fight. As in all wars there is a great chance that those who choose to fight, to drive out the enemy and take back their lives & society will be injured or killed, but they do it anyway, for themselves, their families, their communities, their country, their world.

Certainly it's safer to stay huddled inside one's home and watch from afar those who choose to take the risk and fight (or maybe not, if the enemy comes to your door and you have no weapon to defend yourself) but in some cases risk & sacrifice simply have to be made.

Personally, I don't like the idea of getting vaccines that mess with the workings of my body, but honestly, in this situation what choice do we have? We're losing this war badly, with millions killed world-wide and no end in sight, until the many choose to take the risk, pick up a weapon and join the fight.

I'm sick of cowering at home. I'm sick of hearing the daily horror stories from my neighbor who is an ICU nurse, I miss my friends, my family, my life, so I'm taking the risk and picking up a weapon.

Enough.

I would tend to agree with pheat, but I believe they are pitching the J&J as more effective against some of the newer variants, so in theory one wouldn't have to go back for booster shots as quickly, but given that there will be so many people who will for all their various reasons choose not to get the shots the damned plague will continue to morph, continue to make people sick and those of us fighting the good fight will all have to get booster shots, likely for a long time to come.

Whatever gets my back to the ballgames.

The J+J got approved at 72%, I read. I wouldn't get it but that's just me. Pfizer and moderna Are like 94.4% and 94% effective against the most dangerous variant of the covid.

I'd say J and J shwag, for sure.

Neither Pfizer nor Moderna were tested against the South African or Brazilian strains, Johnson and Johnson's was. Additionally, the Johnson and Johnson is not an MRNA based vaccine.

I had a woman start crying as I gave her the first dose yesterday. she said was "thinking about all the people that didn't make it here." She made the 5 hour drive from Long Island. 

The J&J is 74% effective against moderate to severe cases, and almost 100% against hospitalization and death. It's also effective against the variants. Take into account that it needs only basic refrigeration and that it's one dose, and you have a pretty damn good vaccine.

Yes, on top of the efficacy, just the single dose can't be understated.it cuts the effort required in half. We did 3700 doses yesterday. 2600 first and 1100 seconds. That those 2600 are coming back in 3 weeks is 2600 appts that could've been given to first timers if it were jnj. And 1100 more we could've done yesterday

I guess 40% of the JJ tests were in N America, 40% S America and 15% S Africa. It's well tested and highly efficacious against the Brazilian and S African variants.

I'd be happy to get the JJ, and then immediately book a fucking vacation to the tropics!

My kid is doing contract nerd work for J&J (Amazon, too).  The J&J gig makes him a "healthcare worker" according to CA.  He got the first Pfizer shot on Friday.  No issues post-poke.

Starting to see more of the AARP crowd out and about again.  Some of them are old regular customers I haven't seen in a year.  
 

I'm still masking/washing/distancing and waiting until I can get a shot.

I am hearing they believe the antibodies dissapear after 6-12 months, so we are looking at an annual shot.

^It's interesting and mostly reassuring that those flu-like symptoms are from the vaccine and not from an actual illness that is going to establish itself for more than a few days. 

Just got an appt. for 3-11. Fingers crossed that the vaccine will in fact appear at the correct time and place.

This is a good thread on the J&J Vaccine. Bottom line 40 days out it is about the same as the other ones and it was tested in much harsher places with way more variants than the other ones. !00% protection from death.
