On July 1, 2025, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), overseen by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., altered the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet). This collaborative federal-state tracking program had monitored eight major foodborne pathogens for three decades. Under the policy shift, the CDC cut required tracking down to just two pathogens (Salmonella and E. coli), making reporting for Cyclospora and five other pathogens optional for participating states.
White House spokesperson Kush Desai addressed the policy regarding the Cyclospora tracking reduction by issuing a statement reinforcing the administration's commitment to public health:
"The health and safety of the American people is the Administration's utmost priority. USDA, HHS, FDA, and the CDC will continue to cooperate and maintain the highest vigilance to safeguard our food supply against pathogens."
Cyclospora is the cause of the current outbreak of food-borne illness in dozens of states.

Explosive Diarrhea is a much better name.
IMHO.
That band should consider changing their name. I have no doubt that two word phrase is why this issue has gotten so much media time.
