For D. Stu

Bump for Disco Stu.

Cool machines and stuff.

Thanks Bluest & Jaz.

I'll look into all of that when I can; noticed 'Wood-Mizer' reference briefly upon scanning the link.

The W-M is a popular bandmill, and there are many others in that genre.

The other option for smalltime sawyers is the 'Swing-Blade' mill, as developed by Lucas and/or Petersen, from New Zealand and Australia.

Probably a little better 'recovery rate' when you look at BF ("board-feet") of lumber yield, compared to a typical log, vs. the bandmills.

Sharpening time is generally less on the swingers, compared to bandmills.  Less teeth. Swingers utilize circular blades with fewer teeth.  Bandmills are using long bandsaw blades with many teeth; more things to sharpen.

Another option for turning logs into slabs or lumber would be the Alaska &/or Granberg Mill, which attaches to your high-powered chainsaw.  You need a high-powered Chainsaw and "Skip-Chain" for that, and the kerf is thicker, so more waste, less precision. I think it's a nice approach for low-budget folks who want to produce some Slabs toward Artistic projects.

Anybody can look this stuff up.  Few Zoners are not too interested,  because you can go buy 2x4 lumber cheeeeep if you want it.

more gongtopia coming at you stu......
