Daily game - guess the GD show year

Anybody been playing this? A lot more straightforward than the 30 Days of Dead that David Lemieux runs in November, and very satisfying to get it right, especially on the first or second try. It's been a good daily ritual along with MapTap.

neat

Map Tap > Daily Dead > Jam

I want to like this game, but I suck so bad at it.

Some days are just killer, like today with a Drums, but usually there are enough clues to at least get pretty close by the 4th attempt. Also fun when it randomly pulls in an Acid Test tape that's on the Archive under GD -- those ones are pretty easy to nail.

Up 'till around '87/'88 I'm pretty good at this. After that it's all just kind of noisy, mainly deciding who's playing keys and then throwing a dart at a year.

But the one with just drums, and mostly with just Billy diddling around, is dumb. To do this right we have to hear the whole band.

I like this better than the map game. Probably because I know the GD much better than I know exactly where odd places in the world are.

Good thing I wasn't a pilot.

Guessed on second try today.  I agree it's best to hear the whole band for this game, very difficult with just a minute of drums.

First time on the site yesterday heard Louie Louie, clearly not Garcia or Weir.  Joey Covington on lead vocals, 6/7/69 w/Jorma & Jack, thanks setlists.net.  Garcia sings JBG, 1st of 279.

Me too. I got in on the third try a couple of days, and then just tanked the one with drums, so maybe I don't suck as bad as I thought.

Pretty easy one today, relatively speaking

Nailed it today.

Got it on the second try today. A more active form of listening seems to be the key.

They should offer prizes for guessing the actual date of the show.

It is having trouble today ... Failed to load daily game: Daily game error: audio_key must not contain '..' or '\\'

Looks like it's back up. Decent one today

Second try today. This game is growing on me.

OMG, got it on first try today!
I identify the keyboard player first, then deduce from there.

Got it on the second try today -- always interesting when it pulls an audience tape instead of a soundboard.

Wild one today -- frantic

me too, on 2nd try today. was only a couple years off on my first try.

Booo, on first try I was off by 10 years today. Something threw me way off track.

Second try today, and that's been my trend lately.

Got it on first try today. It was Jerry's voice and the tempo of that version that made me pick the year.

Good for you, I struggled and used all of my lives on this one -- started w/ late 80s and was surprised at the result.

Today's was tough as it could really have been any year of the 90's.

Jerry's tone got thinner when he switched to the Cripe Lightning Bolt guitar around 93-94. Tiger and Rosebud had more 'bite' to them imo.

Definitely true. And of course going back further, Wolf had more bite than either of them, especially when it first came back in fall 77 into spring 78.

Primal!

Today's is one of those years that just has a specific sound and if you know you know

6 day streak

fortunately I recognized that there was only one drummer, that helped narrow it down to a range of 4 years... but still didn't get it on first try.

7 day streak but today's song gave me tears ( Bobby) and stumped me.

Pretty straighforward to localize today's to a few years based on personnel and song selection

^^^ yes! got it on second try today.
