Dark Side Of The Moon

Forums:

So I did the sync up with the Wizard of Oz this weekend (start it on the second roar of the lion) for the first time, and what the actual fuck. It goes so incredibly well with the movie. Way better than I ever imagined it would right down to the last few bars of the album and the Tin Man.

There was an interesting story about this in the NYT last month:

Check out Rogers new take in Money....full album redux coming

Roger Waters Extends His Legacy of Antisemitic Rhetoric

For nearly two decades, rock music icon Roger Waters has been one of the most prominent and outspoken supporters of the BDS movement. He has refused to perform in Israel and urged fellow artists to follow suit, and has often used inflammatory rhetoric against the country. ADL has repeatedly called out Waters for his hateful rhetoric, dating back to an open 2013 letter suggesting that his anti-Israel views may be colored by antisemitism.

In a recent interview with Palestinian news agency Shehab, Waters employed a range of antisemitic tropes, claiming that the U.S. is being controlled by Jewish Republican donor Sheldon Adelson, whom he describes as a “puppet master” who is “filling the coffers and pulling all the strings” on U.S. policy regarding Israel/Palestine.

In the interview, Waters also directly attacked Zionism, describing it as “an ugly stain” which “needs to be gently removed.” This sweeping language about Zionism, which exists in a variety of iterations across diverse segments of the political spectrum, is an implicit attack on millions of Jews who incorporate a connection with Israel into their religious, cultural, or social identities. (According to a Pew research report from 2017, a majority of American Jews state that they are “attached to Israel and that caring about Israel is either ‘essential’ or ‘important’ to what being Jewish means to them.)

This is not the first time Waters has used antisemitic and anti-Zionist rhetoric. In May 2019, Waters appeared to compare Israelis to aliens in a rant about Israel hosting the 2019 Eurovision contest.  That same month, he also headlined an event at the University of Massachusetts sponsored by a number of pro-BDS student organizations. At an August 2018 concert in Poland, Waters projected the phrase “resist Israeli anti-Semitism” onto the stage where he was performing.

In a 2013 interview with the left wing website Counterpunch, he suggested that some artists don’t take controversial positions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict partly because “the Jewish lobby is extraordinary [sic] powerful” in the U.S. music industry. He also claimed that the “right wing rabbinate” is responsible for promoting bigotry against non-Jews among Israelis.

Yeah Roger is the poster child of the ven diagram where the far left idiocy meets the far right idiocy. See also RFK Jr.

The last time I saw him all I could think about was the fact that 90% of the audience for that show were the very people who would be put in re-education camps if Roger was ever given political control. The audience didn't seem to mind.

At a minimum, Roger Waters has an extremely high opinion of himself and, of course, can do or say no wrong.

I saw this new documentary on Syd Barrett over the weekend anyway which I thought was quite good, despite Roger Waters trying to shape the related history and narrative while steering everything away from David Gilmore, as ever.

Water's isn't even that great of a bass player. He's ok, but not great. When I saw Flying Frog Brigade perform 'Animals' a few weeks ago, Les Claypool's bass playing ran circles around Waters.

He added fills and bass lines that brought the album to life. Don't get me wrong, I love the album, but seeing Claypool (and Sean Lennon) perform it showed how weak Waters really is.

And Les's vocals really hit the mark.

I can think of quite a few bass players better than Roger.

Some of Animals studio tracks feature Gilmour on bass fyi. Pigs(3dif1s) and Sheep

I agree but that's like saying Ringo Starr isn't that good of a drummer but both laid down some of the most listened to tracks in all of rock and roll

poor roger

He did write a few good songs.

The lines between anti-Semitism and legitimate criticism of the Israeli government can get messy, but using the term "Jewish lobby" vs. "pro-Israel lobby" seems a bit suspect.

And Roger has always been best known for his songwriting rather than his bass playing.   When I saw him doing the Wall (amazing show even if is one of my least favorite Pink Floyd albums), he didn't even have his bass for half the show.   That being said, "The Final Cut" is a way underrated album and some of his solo work like Amused to Death is actually pretty good too.

White men! White women! The swastika is calling you. The sacred and ancient symbol of your race, since the beginning of time. The Jew is using The Black as muscle against you. And you are left there helpless. Well, what are you going to do about it, Whitey? Just sit there? Of course not! You are going to join with us. The members of the American Socialist White Peoples' Party. An organization of decent, law abiding white folk. Just like you

Agree the Final Cut is a fantastic album

Just listened to  the reimagined Money. It's a bit plodding but he's incorporating new/additional lyrics, which is interesting. Bodes well for the other tracks.
