From Dark Star Orchestra

Everyone from the DSO Family is sending condolences and supportive vibrations to Jeff Mattson as there has been a death in his family. Jeff has returned home to be with his family during this time.

Starting tonight and for our three remaining California shows, Stu Allen will fill in on lead guitar & vocals at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga and both nights at The Days Between Festival.

We are grateful for your understanding and for our wider community that comes together in times like this to support each other when it's needed most.

Hmmm... would've been an interesting time to have JK back in with the band for a few nights.  Especially since JK is playing solo and with Melvin at Days Between. Granted, JK has a committed gig in So Cal on Sat.  Speaking of that gig in Huntington Beach, JK is playing solo and a couple sets with Cubensis.  It's free.  For this who might be going, a close friend of mine's band is opening the day on Sat.  Sanford Street!  Check ''em out if you'll be in HB on Sat!

JK can play with individual members, several member together but never again with the full band since he left for Furthur.  He's played with rob, skip etc in Colo.

Great Shoe

Even the Corrina rocked...

"but never again with the full band since he left for Furthur"

Why? Would it be breaking a law, or something? Just curious.

Great time with friends at my favorite venue to see shows. Stu was fantastic pinch hitting for Jeff. High energy second set that ended 28 seconds before they would pull the power plug at this venue! Expect more of this great chemistry Stu has with Rob and DSO this weekend up in NorCal

I thought JK played with DSO at Red Rocks this year.

DSO tour with Stu was grate

He did. Het sat in for Cumberland.

And he played Lazy River Road with them in Jamaica this past January too.

Anybody want to bet that in 3 years, if all are healthy and playing music, the Core Four Might As Well do it one more time to celebrate 60 years of the Grateful Dead, and be paid off in gold?

I won't slave for beggar's pay
Likewise gold and jewels
But I would slave to learn the way
To sink your ship of fools

First of a run of Cali shows with Stu Allen sitting in for Jeff, at the posh Mountain Winery in swanky Saratoga overlooking Silicon Valley.

As a capital J “Jeff guy” let me say that Stu integrated  with the boys near-seamlessly. Great onstage communication, real gone jams, and some novel, well-executed transitions - particularly the segue from China Cat into Corrina.
Venue is breathtaking - the old Paul Masson winery built in 1852. Mighty old for the west coast. Surrounded by vineyards, astonishing views, and a very small, intimate amphitheater. Bathrooms and water refills were kind of a trek. Security up front were pretty aggressive about keeping aisles clear and checking tickets for empty seats. But we know how to have a good time so we worked around it.

I’m not going to Days Between this year but I expect nothing but excitement from this Stu-pid awesome configuration.

Tickets are already $20 000 on StubHub.

Saw DSO in Napa last night with Garret Deloian filling in for Jeff Mattson. They [played 9/27/76 and ripped it pretty darned good. I hadn't seen DSO in 6 or 7 years, but they sounded great!
