Darkstarathon, episode 1

Terrapin Clubhouse has it's first installment of Darkstarathon!!!  Woot!!!

Why that was pretty fantastic. Phil looks great.

This is a great lineup , all with big ears!

Holly a stand out

Donato and Bluhm really add to the the vocal dynamic. Phil should try and tie down this lineup for awhile. Just play California and take it easy.  Us fans will come to Cali for this stuff, but work on this band for awhile. I could only emagine if they got 15 or twenty shows under their belt.

agreed. they need to step up the lighting game though. looks like someone's basement.

Young Danielsan

Much improvement

Thanks Druba

Wuz just going to post about this. Just a few minutes into it now....

Very cool, thanks!

That is a bit of alright.

I like watching this better than the sphere video. It's so much more natural and easier on my brain.

Big ears is right and hatless Holly is so fun to listen to -- she's so good at shifting key and rhythms.

Fluorescent lights seem to work for this band.

^ Imagine kimock in this moment

hell, put charlie on drums

flyable

These two vids by PL & F are just amazing.  True energy and sound.  Give a listen and then tell me why spend thousands of dollars to see DeadCo at Sphere???  Hope Phil is given the opportunity to also play the Sphere.  IMHO, then the price will be worth the travel.  But if you did go to DeadCo Sphere, hope you had a good time.

((((((( hatless Holly )))))))

Listen to what Phil says after the Ship of Fools....!!!

Is it wrong to think Holly is the best keyboard player Phil has ever played with?

a nod to Godcheaux because he invented the genre

Bruce Hornsby gets an honorable mention

Holly is not even in the same atmosphere as Bruce.  Sorry, not sorry.

But agree she seems to be the highlight up these episodes.   Need to pair her up with Barry Sless and let the shit take off.

just subscribed, thanks

Baltimore connection -- Oteil is sporting a tee shirt from the American Visionary Arts Museum, one of Charm City's most notable attractions. Cool place. I got married there.

So, what's this clubhouse thing? I watched some of the first one up there.
Phil just playing with folks w no audience?
Interesting.
I'm not a fan of Donato's singing, especially since Graham also inhabits a similar range.
The playing is nice, though.
I'm just curious what's going on here.
Does Phil have an announcement I missed, explaining this new format?
Why the shitty, paneled basement?
I'm sure I missed something here...

>So, what's this clubhouse thing?

Seems similar to the space Bobby had a while back, just a place to practice, record, stream the music and develop some interest for upcoming Phil shows and collaborations.

>Why the shitty, paneled basement?<

Jill complained when they set up in the garage.

>Seems similar to the space Bobby had a while back,<

I don't think so. TRI is outfitted with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of state-of-the-art recording and playback gear; Phil's basement has a Sanyo receiver from 1975, a Pioneer turntable with the cartridge missing, and a Fisher-Price "Mr Microphone"

meanwhile, back in the basement...

A big sigh from Phil after episode three.   He looks spent...yet still truckin'

TY Noodler.

Wow.

Very cool!

Grate stuff!

i love this

This is a lineup I'd travel to see.  Peter's voice still sounds great and the potential is there.   Hopefully a few more with this lineup so they can start to gel, a few expected bumps as they try to figure out whose turn it is to lead.

Appreciate that the camera angles have mostly adjusted to not showcase the florescent ceiling lighting.

Also turn up the violin.

yeah turn up the electric Violin , love Jasons work! um kinda reminds me of papa john. Also What ever did happen to TRI studio? they were off to A cool Start They didn't really use it during covid.. always Imagined The Stones Playin there..

this lineup and playing is excellent. far better than most PLF shows these days. when do we get a lineup like this at the warfield or fillmore? leave the kids at home and let barry off the leash. easy slam dunk show.

^ agreed

If you only have limited time to check this out, listen to parts of the second half. I thought that the music was much tighter when they jammed out within the context of a song or near a song. It's like they needed a tiny bit of structure to play "against."

The first half was (as might be expected) more loose noodling and exploring as they learned when to step up and/or lock in with each other. Despite his request to follow their noses, I felt that they initially still deferred to Phil for direction.

This whole "anti-Sphere" basement trip is great. Go Phil!

I've been confusing the club house sessions and the darkstarathons ...  Is there really much of a difference?  Just guys in the basement playing dead songs?

Phil is the man  Recreating jams from 1971  84 years old and he actually listens to old shows and mines them for sonic gems

Swapping out Molo for Koford was a surprise.  Phil may have been doing his old phriend a favor getting his name back out there.

From Relix....Continuing on a road map of musical self-discovery, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Alex Koford has unveiled his fully-charged single, “Chemicals And Purple Haze.” Produced by Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools, the track highlights Koford’s distinct gift at assembling and piping lyrics–qualities that first struck the lauded bassist and led to the pair-up. Today’s single arrives on the heels of Koford’s first self-produced, self-recorded, and self-mixed song release, “When I Rise,” and previous solo drops, “A Fabled Lullaby” and “Alive Sacred Creatures.”

Same line up a week earlier.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdyTvFa4oe4

Wow, Phil keeps outdoing the last.  P H I L: The man.  See you all at Terrapin Sunday Daydream 8.18.24 McNears Beach Park

^ agreed. I couldn't help smiling and dancing a bit while doing some carving today.

I think they finally turned Phil up (at least it sounds like it wearing earbuds).

I also love the stories (i.e., when Jerry asked me to join the Warlocks). I've read them before, but it sounds so wonderful hearing grampa Phil tell them.
