Dave's Picks 24 - 8/25/72

"We're wrapping up this year's Dave's Picks series with one from the Grateful Dead's beloved Bay Area. An often overlooked gem from '72 (who's to blame with that rich pool of excellence), 8/25/72 Berkeley Community Theatre finds the Dead laid back and in the comfort zone of home. While one might think this would make the night too relaxed, the band fall in line with their "West Coast best" paradigm. The output is fresh, reaching the outer depths on repertoire classics like "The Other One" and "Playing In The Band" and finding the intricately nuanced heart of emotive numbers like "He's Gone" and "Bird Song." Fans of Europe '72 and Veneta, Oregon will not be disappointed!"

This is awesome -- the complete show has never circulated, and we didn't even know the whole setlist because the only extant tapes ran out during the Other One.

Easily one of the best DP in years in my opinion, or at least the first one in years that I'm going to actually purchase

XM broadcast this show this past summer, and it's a lively one.

Sold out in 2 hours? WTF

It came in the mail yesterday.  Only listened to disc 2 so far, very crisp sound.  A really great birdsong!

I gave mine a full spin yesterday morning - Great stuff!

Listened to the show yesterday, Sunday driving in my convertible 'Birdsong', probably the last time this year I will have the top down, the wind in my hair and the volume cranked. End to end, this is a great show. Now that it has been announced Binghamton 77 is the next DP release, I can't wait for the spring and the chance to give one of my old time favorites a spin in 2018.

Super supremo excellent.  The Bird Song is sublime.

Got mine yesterday...

Spectacular show. Only had part on tape...

Phil is absolutely fucking outstanding!

That Eyes, and especially the Bird Song are the motts...

Tod - If you got Eyes on your copy can we trade?

Lol.

TOO

Waiting for a long drive to spin mine .....

Nice- my first (paid) Dead show...Friday night in Berzerkeley

For years it was a mystery what the full set list  was...they must have finally unearthed the whole show.

I remember BIODTL, Truckin and Playin

>>Sold out in 2 hours? WTF<<

This past subscription year, I thnk most of the 16,500 copies of each, went to subscription holders.
My guess would be that the subscriptions will sell out the series this year, and no copies will be available for general sale a la carte.

>>>This past subscription year, I thnk most of the 16,500 copies of each, went to subscription holders.

I'm pretty sure I read that the production was increased for 2018 to 18,000 copies to accommodate some more people but I think it is still pretty much "you snooze, you lose" with the Dave's Picks series.  I renewed my subscription this morning.

What do the core 4 make $ per sold disc?

Is it just my disc, or does the right channel cut in & out Cold Rain & Snow?

Oops Jerry just said something about equipment errors after the end of song.

Sad, I would have purchased this disc had it been available. I can't and don't want to do a CD subscription for a variety of reasons. Now I'm just going to have to get it for free

"He had roses for lunch." - Jerry

What is that supposed to mean?

>>>Sad, I would have purchased this disc had it been available.

I felt the same way. No other DP, just this one.  They bundled up all the Europe '72 shows in a limited box set that sold out in 15 minutes over 5 years ago, and never released another show from 1972, the band's best year.

So in Bluelight fashion, I wrote a few very well written emails to EVERYONE (CEO's, PR persons, Product Managers) any one that could be or should have been involved.

3 nights ago, concurrent to that 100's went on sale on eBay. I included that important detail, and to make a long story short (and to keep certain names out) I was shipped 2nd day Air a free copy for some of the many points I was trying to make. Rhino made this decision the same day their Daves' Pick annual sale went up. They learned a lot from me and Dave's Picks will never be the same.

Like lets manufacture more 1972 shows and less 1990 or late '89 shows. Rhino has nothing to gain by not manufacturing enough of something in demand.

Capishe?

I would have preferred to purchase it & it not being sold out before I got the email again.
