Dave's Picks 39

Forums:

Has there been an announcement about DP 39 yet? It's due to be released at the end of next week.

I was notified 39 has shipped but still no announcement. This is unusual.

Same here China-Rider....  kind of liking the mystery tho'.  Just like a real show

I'm with you, I like the mystery.   Would be even better if it came with a blank cover and you just had to put it on and be surprised.

Big smile at that, Zang

I also got a notification of shipment this morning. Mystery Dead. Very cool. Unless they sold enough subscriptions they will eventually have to announce it to sell remaining copies. After all money talks.

Cool, I was in attendance. It will be fun to give this a fresh listen.

I was at this one too, and it was a smoker.

Good call.

I went to Rochester on 4-15. Another good show. (First Bob Star).

Real good final show, real good tour.  Saw 9 shows, caught all 5 versions of Help>Slip>Franklin's.

Order complete !

Cool, heard the He's Gone->"Bob Star" from 4-15 is included.

I just got mine, and can confirm that that is correct, Local. And there's a big chunk of the second set (Space > Wheel > PITB > GDTRFB > Sugar Mag) and the encore (Satisfaction) from 4/25/83 show at the Spectrum.

cover is a nod to the Philly pretzels haha

Hey China. Hope all is well.

The dude holding the cheese steak is a nice touch.

Looking forward to receiving it.

Uh, aren't those NY pretzels!!! Think Philly pretzels are different.

like the philler on this!

That does look more like a NY pretzel.

Yeah, I remember Philly pretzels being more oblong.

YES Philly pretzels are mashed together like sardines, and sold cold and sweaty.

wha wha

and for accuracy lot grilled cheese never overflowed...

13 points on the blue bolt though. And the yellow dog looks dosed.

Everybody looks dosed.

>>>wha wha

It's philly, that would be Wawa!!!

The fanny pack is the narc indicator.

well, it was 1983

I was there and sadly, a bit underwhelmed by this one.  Saw my first spectrum show in 1977 and think I saw everyone till I went to college in 81 then most through 88.  I remember hanging in the parking lot, pre show for this--I came in from college for this one yet the listen back just doesn't hi the notes.  Maybe a few more spins on ths .  Saw Rochester and WVU on this tour as I recall and both were better

I love that the artist for this DP39 cover has the Uncle Sam in the camper wearing an Ed Donohue (RIP) shirt.  Ed was an artist & friend who made beautiful silkscreen & tie dye shirts and started selling them at dead shows in the 70s and passed away far too young in 2004.

Here's an old photo of Phil (taken by Brian Baumwoll) wearing the same shirt:

That's pretty cool Ohr!  Eagle eye!

Played this AM on GD Radio, looking up the bonus tracks, I found this fun fact on Wikipedia

Dave's Picks Volume 39 was the third Dave's Picks album to reach #1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. It reached #16 on the Billboard 200 chart, the highest-ranking Grateful Dead album since In the Dark hit #6 in 1987

My only Dave's that is still sealed. blush

This latest pick has all sorts of slipknot teases.   It's kind mix to the standard 74 which I tend to avoid..  I think I'm up to three on the four discs.

I was listening to Disc 4 of Dave's Picks Volume 42 today, which is the bonus disc with highlights from the 2/22/74 Winterland show.  On track number 6, Playing In The Band, at the 10:20 mark, Jerry starts noodling around in the unmistakeable riff that they developed into Slipknot.  I don't know if this is the first time this riff appeared, but clearly, they went back and developed it when they created the tune for Blues For Allah.
