so 3-21 is complete and 3-20 is sans US Blues encore? Is it missing from the vault or is this a space constraint on the CD release. why not patch the US blues from that FM source?

That show took place the following week: March 28, 1981 on the German TV show Rockpalast.

Hot Damn! I've been waiting
Hot Damn! I've been waiting for this release for over 40 years! Never understood why it took so long cuz these shows were smokin'! I had assumed it wasn't recorded on the SBD, although I've heard AUD tapes over the years...
I went to ALL 4 London Rainbow Theatre Shows (3/20, 3/21, 3/23, 3/24), then I ventured down to Essen, Germany for The Who/Grateful Dead Double Bill! Pretty Heady stuff for a 21 year old Deadhead!
This was my first and only run of Grateful Dead "Theatre" shows, so I enjoyed the intimacy and open dance floor immensely. I recall stage banter with the Audience "Hey Phil, do you like the English Bitter Beers?" was met with a thumbs up by Phil. Some kind Freak handed out hash cookies up front, Yay!
When Jerry mistakenly opened 'Brokedown Palace' with the Chorus (4th show?), he just started over, said, 'Sorry people" and everyone laughed!
I was 21 years old, attending U of Fribourg, Switzerland for my Junior Year Abroad for a year, and my brother was in his 5th year living in London, so taking the trains/ferry up for this run was a no-brainer! "Who are the Grateful Dead, and why are they following me?", indeed!
I remember chatting with some spike-haired London punks in attendance between sets and they were there because they thought 'Grateful Dead' sounded like a Metal Band, they didn't quite know what to make of all the Americana and Jams, but their jaws hit the floor during Drumz > Space, which they loved...
For my part, I Loved all 4 shows, but I had an Irish Catholic Guilt Trip induced LSD meltdown during Sailor > Saint that I did not recover from that night. I was SO euphoric prior to that during Scarlet > Fire, I had never been so wonderfully high before in my life, and I started feeling guilty, like I didn't deserve to feel that good. Too bad, huh? I walked out of the show during He's Gone, only to return the next day when I realized after I came down that I was being overly harsh on myself. Trial by Scarlet>Fire, I suppose, but I did get back in the saddle for the rest of the run, sans strong psychedelics. Sailor > Saint has always had a deep impact on me ever since.
Sorry if it's TMI, but this run was deeply visceral and intimate for me, so I Thought I'd share my story here.

I love that recounting, DJ.
I love that recounting, DJ.
It's good to remember and share those formative imprints in the dna of our community.
I'm psyched to hear these recordings!
I'm betting the US Blues was cut because they squeezed 2 whole shows on 4 discs.
Based on past tendency towards complete-ism, the US Blues will show up at the end of the filler on the next 3-disc release.
