David Bromberg Quintet 5/11 South Orange, NJ

Forums:

So I'm not sure if anyone can take advantage of this, but I figure it's worth a shot. I have 2 tix for Bromberg @ the South Orange Performing Arts Center. I wish I could go since it's my b-day, but my current situation prevents it. The seats are 2nd row center & free to anyone who can use them. I originally planned to give them to my brother, but he can't go either. If anyone's interested let me know & we can figure out a way to get you the tix. It's a Thursday night & I hear the place is really nice.

Sweet offer, no spot taken.

I would love to go.  In Jersey as well so getting the tickets shouldn't be too much trouble.  Awesome offer let me know what you think.

I would actually go for that show, but my preference is to take you up to SOPAC if you can manage it. There's room in the truck for a wheelchair and I can help you get in and out of the passenger seat, and ensure that the SOPAC ADA staff gets you set up comfortably.

Hope you can consider that scenario and maybe discuss w/ your physical therapist.

Heading there for McGuinn the week before, so I can scope out accessibility, perhaps check w/ Box Office staff for options that would make it easier.

Even better, very nice of you Stu!  If I recall there is accessible seating in the back of the theatre.  Very small place and a great place to see a show.

Hillside,

You've got first pick. But if Chuck wants to attempt the Ordeal I will ferry him up there & back again.

Just giving him that option, although it might be a bit too much at this point.

Very cool offer Stu & I'd normally take you up on it, but a little too much too fast thanks.

Hillside, the tix are yours. If you want, e-mail me your address & I'll overnight them to you.  Just let me know. E-mail addy is [email protected]

Would love to go, but if this can work for Chuck that would be good for him.  Particularly with everything that he is going through.

Sorry to hear Chuck I will send you an email.  Thanks and I hope that you are feeling better.

You guys are great folks. :)

Sounds good. I'll keep an eye out for it & put the tix in the mail.

Hillside, I got your email & my brother's gonna go to the post office & overnight the tix to you today. You should have them tomorrow Thursday the latest.  I would have just met up but it's still up in the air if I'll be in the facility or home.

Let me know when you get em & enjoy the show man.

Thank you so much!  Big fan of Bromberg and I have been seeing him for many years.  I have only seen the quintet once so I am extra excited.

Thanks DJ EZWind for the links, & thanks again for those other SOPAC tickets.

Bromberg's always been a fascinating character over the years.

Would like to catch that Delaware fest coming up, but it's tough finding reliable Dog-sitters.

Where do you call home, Stu? I know a pro pet sitter in Boonton, NJ.

DJ --

I'm thinking you mean Boonton up North by Lake Hiawatha and such, the cool part of Jerseyland.  Nice lakes up there and literally 10 degrees cooler or more when you  get up in those hills.

I'm south of Princeton about 20 miles, near the actual center of NJ.

It's always good to know about more trustworthy Dog-sitters, thanks.

Yes, Stu. (Shhhhhh) It's the hidden secret part of Jersey most folks don't  know about...Boonton is bit more urban/suburban , but a cool town nonetheless,That's where HomegrownRadioNJ.org Studios are located.  within a burgeoning arts community. North and West of there is the beautiful lake, & horse farm country of which you speak, Lake Hopatcong, etc...c

I actually live in Cranford though.

Thanks DJ.

I'm familiar with the area. Don't get up there often enough, but it's, well, no one would ever want to visit (Sshhh) lots of man-eating trout and SuperFund sites.

Don't bother going.

The Trout can eat a person in no time at all.

And then, the toxic waste. I hear there are Jersey Devils as well. Seen a few abandoned cabins where they may frequent.

The area is definitely the best kept secret in Jersey. Spent a lot of time fishing on Lake Hopatcong & such a beautiful area for camping. To me it always felt like a world away.

Thanks for the links Easywind. Gonna check 'em out shortly.

Hillside, just wanted to let you know I got your e-mail & my brother got the tix out. Should be there tomorrow or Thursday.  You're def welcome & I'm glad someone can use them. Bromberg never disappoints. Enjoy

"David Bromberg & Larry Campbell back in 2013, when they toured together:"

Saw one of these shows, by a mile the best Bromberg show I'd seen since the 70's.  Larry just brings out the best with whoever he's on stage with.

Great I will let you know when they arrive.  Bromberg has been coming around more in recent years so hopefully you will get to see him soon.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll have other opportunities. I check him out every chance I get whether it's solo, duet, the big band etc.

DJ, really enjoyed the most recent interview & will def check out the one with Larry Campbell. Missed the tour they did together. That had to be good since they're both multi instrumentalists.

Thom, it's funny you mention seeing Bromberg in the 70's. A buddy who passed a few years ago first saw him in '79 opening for Hot Tuna. He said it was just Bromberg & an acoustic guitar & the lyrics made him think he was a comedian for the first couple songs.

In case  some of the 49 sister States don't know, The Jersey Devil is a multigenerational offspring of Mother Leeds' 13th Child.

She cursed it at birth, causing it to become... well, The Jersey Devil.

Often seen before times of war.

Books have been written, and Campers have been scared, but Jersey Devil is Real. Why else would they name a Hockey team, eh?

Pretty sure I know where Jersey Devil hangs out devil

Chuck, all of my high school friends (I graduated in '74) were huge Bromberg fans, and since he was local we had been aware of him since '71 or '72.  WMMR in Philly played him all the time. I remember the first time I saw the Big Band around '74 and I couldn't believe all of the instruments that were spread out over that stage.

My problem with late era Bromberg is that IMO he hasn't kept his guitar chops really sharp. But with Larry on stage with him he raised his game, and Larry was of course fantastic and taseful. They also had some really funny stories to tell.

Saw him on St. Patty day.

You want the blues well by God you will get the blues.

Surrounds himself with some top notch talent

Enjoy!!

Chuck, tickets arrived today many thanks.

Hi Chuck, great to see you posting more and more. I was wondering if you ever did any fishing on Lake Mohawk? I grew up there as a kid, use to fish all over that Lake. Many vibes smiley

Hillside, great to here you got the tix & I'm glad they'll be put to good use.  Have a great time.

Bart, I've fished Lake Mohawk on many occasions. That's actually the first place I caught a smallmouth bass. I mentioned yesterday fishing & camping at Lake Hopatcong & my friends & I used to do the same at Mohawk. Great fishing & a beautiful area. I haven't been there in about 20 years, but it's really bringing up some great memories. Lots of good fishing all over Jersey.

Wow what a show.  Much needed and appreciated during a very hectic week.  Big thanks to Chuck for the tickets, hope you are feeling better.   If you are in the area this is a really great place to see a show and we enjoyed a nice dinner beforehand at the Middle Eastern restaurant.  Bromberg was great and the musicians that he plays with are top notch.   Going to the Big Noise Festival next Saturday which we are really excited for.

Very cool Hillside. Glad you enjoyed the show. You're more than welcome for the tickets.
