"I cut Roger up into tiny little pieces, and ate him for breakfast."

Looks like Gene Simmons hacked him imho lol

He's going to be the 16th doctor.

Not the first time he's played the Doctor...

He's touring with Alice Cooper?

"I went fishing and caught this rainbow trout...."

Imminent front

it's a put on

I am the walrus!

Shut the fuck up Donnie!

Hey Ladies, check this out

When I saw this pic yesterday it looked like he is facing away/back to the viewer, today it looks like he's facing forward/face to the viewer... I love optical contusions...

Based on the jacket cuffs, it appears to me he's facing away.

Definitely Facing away...

Thanks for posting the dog video Fish.

I hope he comes around here; the show I saw with him and Rick Wright in 2006

at the Oakland Fox Theater was amazing....I hadn't seen Gilmour since the Carrier Dome in '87....

Ha! I was at that dome show in 87... saw him last in 16 but had to travel a ways to do so. Hoping to see one more go, especially as my daughter is a huge Floyd fan and has seen Nick and Roger but not David yet... she loves Brit Floyd (who are admittedly very good ) she's seen them 3 times now

I was at that Oakland Paramount Theater show in 2006 and it was unfuckingbelievable.

It felt like the entire Universe was watching him when the Comfortably Numb solo was played.

This being said, I can't think of anything better than Pink Floyd reuniting (i know RW has passed) and performing a run of classic songs at The Sphere with VISUALS!!

Right now I don't see anything topping this (albeit fantasy).

Will be there to check in out In Person on 5/30!

Yes Jay, the Paramount not the Fox, thanks for the correction....

I had good tickets for the first night but even better ones for the next night.

15th row center on the isle. I couldn't go because of work.....Wife went alone and told me

how great the seats and the show were....

Hahahaha that's the way it goes sometimes...

Local,

I wasn't able to get tix until the last minute where a random Ticketmaster check scored me a front row dead center Loge spot.

Ate edibles and was flying high emotionally, musically, spiritually, etc.

At that time it was the most expensive ticket I had ever bought ($125 i think) and way the fuck WORTH IT!

Gilmour is my favorite guitar player. I can't think of anyone who plays so melodic [albeit subjective].

Anxious to see what he's up to next!

LONDON, 24th April 2024: David Gilmour today announced his new album, ‘Luck and Strange,’ to be released on 6th September on Sony Music. The first track from the album, ‘The Piper’s Call,’ will be released this Thursday, 25th April, following a world-exclusive first play on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

‘Luck and Strange’ was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman. Of this new working relationship, David says, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and “Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?”. He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years. Samson says of the lyrical themes covered on ‘Luck and Strange’, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.” Gilmour elaborates, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.” Polly has also found the experience of working with Charlie Andrew liberating, “He wants to know what the songs are about, he wants everyone who’s playing on them to have the ideas that are in the lyric informing their playing. I have particularly loved it for that reason.”

The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points’ and has artwork and photography by the renowned artist Anton Corbijn.

Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded in 2007 at a jam in a barn at David’s house.

Some contributions emerged from the live streams that Gilmour and family performed to a global audience during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021; Romany Gilmour sings, plays the harp and appears on lead vocals on ‘Between Two Points’. Gabriel Gilmour also sings backing vocals.

The album’s cover image, photographed and designed by Anton Corbijn, is inspired by a lyric written by Charlie Gilmour for the album’s final song ‘Scattered’. Of working with his family on ‘Luck and Strange’, David says, “Polly and I have been writing together for over thirty years and the Von Trapped live streams showed the great blend of Romany’s voice and harp-playing and that led us into a feeling of discarding some of the past that I’d felt bound to and that I could throw those rules out and do whatever I felt like doing, and that has been such a joy."

‘Luck and Strange’ will be released on 6th September on Sony Music.

Richard Fischer got a good look at Dave's rig those night at the Paramount and said Dave had everything turned up to 11!

Only other guitarist he knows who does that is Sonny Landreth

Hilarious that he is releasing on 9/6, Rogers birthday

Thanks for the info Fish....That is a classic troll move no doubt....

Ok David, bring on the theater tour!!

Jay, that was a great score on that ticket, that seat must have been excellent.

I looked at my ticket, total of $107 for the orchestra seat....absolutely worth every cent. I went in going

Ok, this should be a pretty good show....I left blown away, so pissed that I was going to miss the next night.

Defiantly a night to remember.

"Pre-order* any format of 'Luck and Strange' to get early access to future UK live dates."

I thought he had sold off his guitars and gear?  Guess he kept some of it.  Look forward to hearing what he's come up with.

This is gonna be sick

but of course also begs the question how many different LP pressings there will be (worldwide), and all the resultant questions thereafter...

dave he sold the black strat so the one in the video is almost certainly a custom shop type. I wouldn't have sold that strap either tho.

We now live in the world of variants, there will be certainly plenty. It's certainly helpful for units sold reporting. I generally stick with black(try for signed lithos too) but interestingly a couple recent variant pickups(stones zoetrope and mono box), the sound was better than expected. Historically have found novelty pressings to lose sonically but I guess things have improved. I still mostly try to avoid picture discs tho

Same

i feel like the hype around selling/collecting variants is pretty similar to the hype around how insert cards in baseball wax packs was in the 90's, and we saw how that went.

these days the whole pack (or all the record album variants) are basicallly all insert-level quality and (now) the inserts themselves (and the hype around them)  have taken on a whole another life entirely.

(the recent aic fan club jar of flies with the actual flies in the vinyl immediately comes to mind)

I thought the new single would be called: "We Hate Roger Waters"

I do find the Piper and Black Cat titles along with black silhouette harkens to Piper at the Gayes of Dawn, an album he ironically wasn't on

Pipers Call

https://youtu.be/4DesLs2dYys?si=xzi5L3JM6YEPPVLO

Shit gets real at 3:40…..attaboy Dave

Take these binds everlasting
Can't undo the voodoo that you do
And the knots that we fasten
Will not work themselves loose

Whatever it takes
Steer clear of the snakes
The road to hell is paved with gold they'll tell you All the things that you don't need they'll sell you Your conscience uncontrolled
And beauty to behold

The promise of eternal youth
The spoils of fame, a carpe diem attitude
The flames are high the piper's call contagious
A fixer who will numb your pain, and strangenеss The wheels are hot, the hangover outrageous
The stealer he will trade your soul for favours
But you’ll reap what you sow
As I found out long ago

The promise of eternal youth
The spoils of fame, a carpe diem attitude

Looks like he's going to tour behind the new album. Don't expect a feel-good 70s Floyd retrospective, though.

https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/david-gilmour-announces-intention-to-tour-f...

I'd be thrilled with no Floyd at all tbh

No Floyd, I will pass. Polly's lyrics are awful and DG's solo work past the About Face has been pretty droll.

Polly's lyrics are awful <<<

Very true Woz. Like something a high school English teacher would come up with.

He didn't say "no Floyd", just nothing from Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, or The Wall (and presumably Final Cut). Sure, that will keep a large segment of the fan base away, but that likely means smaller venues and deeper cuts for the diehards.

Yes better if she could come up with this type of stuff

You brought a guitar to punish your ma
And you didn't like school,
and you know, you're nobody's fool

You dreamed of a big star
He played a mean guitar
He always ate in the Steak Bar
He loved to drive in his Jaguar

Gilmour's solo tours are always theatre events. Nick Mason covered the 60s catalogue perfecty. Gilmour's best guitar work is on those 70s albums......IMO.
