David LaFlamme, violin innovator of 1960s with ‘White Bird,’ dies at 82

Another big loss among so many.

RIP David LaFlamme.

Step up our game hippie rock and rollers.

Another one bites the dust.  How sad.  White Bird was my fav for sooooooooooo long.  R I P David and gig with the rest up there.

White Bird was/is an amazing song.

I met him and his wife(Linda?) at the Filmore upstairs in the poster room. They were standing under the "It's A Beautiful Day" posters and were very friendly and proud. We talked for quite awhile. RIP.

White bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain

White bird
In a golden cage
Alone

The leaves blow
Across the long, black road
To the darkened skies
In it's rage

But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Unknown

White bird must fly
Or she will die

White bird
Dreams of the aspen trees
With their dying leaves
Turning gold

But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Growing old

White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die

The sunsets come
The sunsets go
The clouds roll by
And the earth turns old
And the young bird's eyes
Do always glow

She must fly
She must fly
She must fly

White bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain

White bird
In a golden cage
Alone

White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die

From Jorma Kaukonen's Blog:

Yeah, so David LaFlamme passed a week ago.

David and Linda were old friends from earlier times in San Francisco. They and their band were taken advantage by the same unscrupulous manager that gave Jefferson Airplane grief for a number of years. I shall not mention his name here because I don’t want to give him any more face time but such was music life in San Francisco in the early days. In any case, David and Linda were friends. They brought It’s A Beautiful Day to the Fur Peace Station some years ago, and  brought a lot of joy to the folks in our little neck of the woods.

Time moves on for all of us. I heard David wasn’t faring well a year or so ago and I gave Linda a call and we talked for a bit. Time continued to move and then he was gone. Growing old combined with illness is not an inexpensive endeavor so I’m going to post their Fund Me Link.

Getting old ain’t for sissies.

Anon…

And then, after breakfast, more is revealed, as it always is.  Our daughter Izze, is out of the house with an apartment of her own. It’s nice to have some company to alleviate the vacuum that surrounds the newly minted empty nesters. Sometimes life changes at an alarming rate and I am fortunate the I and those close to me right now are doing well. Blessings are counted. It a lovely early morning here in Southeast Ohio. Even though it is only mid August I can already feel the summer thinking about winding down. At some point one my age has to wonder about the summers left in one’s life but this is not a thought to dwell on for too long.

Carpe diem

....and onward!

What great comments from Jorma. That guy is top drawer in every way.

And the he who shall not be named manager is Matthew Katz.

That dude has always been the dirty lint underneath the drawers.

Was he the guy who corn holed Moby Grape?
