Yee haw! Have fun y'all, sorry I'll miss it.

Are you going tonight, Judit?

If so, have fun!

nice!

I'm planning to go tonight, Zooey. Meeting Surfdead at Whirled Pies at 7:30ish, any other people going? Meet us there, if you like. LLOLLO may be coming down from Portland, that would be fun.

Mookie?

David had so much fun he is doing it again!

Will this become part of his therapy? Sure hope so.

Enjoy David and be Happy and Healthy!

WOW !! Soon Come !! Early Harvest Show  Freak Freely !!

Fantastic News!!!

I'm looking forward to the Round Two Get Together!!!

See some of you fine folks soon!

Is California Kind good enough to discuss without David?

Not really trolling. Just wondering if the other seven? sets will get some more play around here.

California Kind is a good band.

We maniacs love David Nelson, though.

^^I was planning to catch California Kind w/o David, FWIW.

There's some good guitar interplay between Katie and Barry, IMHO.  Nothing like DNB, but some good southern rock elements.  Would love to hear them play Reelin' in the Years again.

Cal Kind is a very good band on their own.

I was planning on driving up to Humbrews, but now it's a nobrainer to switch to TXR.

nobrainer=kickinthehead...

my sources say that Mookie will not be at the TXR show... Barraco will be the only one on keys

after some deliberation and a look at the thinness of my wallet, I've decided to pass on the TXR gig... I will, however, be attending my "home show" up here in Humboldt the night before, sans Nelson

have fun out there, kidz

Great news.  See you maniacs at TXR

Saw them last night (sans David, of course). Katie's improving on guitar. PA was crappy - KS and Rob were hard to hear. Barry and Pete were quite audible from their amp speakers - for some reason Rob has no on-stage amp - just the PA. A couple each of nice Winwood and GD covers..

Had a dream last night that I was walking in SF and came upon Pete and Barry also walking, when Jorma and Jack showed up from the other direction. I got a pic and got them all to sign something, which is strange, since I never ask for autographs.

2 great guitar/ bass combos Surfdead.

I saw them in Eugene last night, as did Surfdead, Moses, LLOLLO and her man. It was a good-sized crowd in a small venue, lots of loud chatting.

I came away with the feeling that if California Kind were an instrumental band, no vocals, I'd really get off on them. Skene's guitar was a good and integral part of the group, and Molo, Sless, Sears, Barraco can be so good, but the vocals interrupt the stream ~ they get out there but the vocals drop anchor... almost abruptly.

Glad I went. LLOLLO went tonight in Portland - I'm looking forward to her posts about that.

I kind of like her voice. And her guitar work has improved every time I see them.     You can tell that she is benefiting from playing with Barry.

I am looking forward  to Wednesday night.

it's interesting for a band w/ those musicians in it to kind of fall flat, no real leader and it shows. get rid of the woman, add someone who compliments barry but can also melt it down, call it sless and friends, tour.

enough of the filler bs.

She should take a few lessons from TTB. In fact, they should do some  TTB covers.

Have they ever done Blue Sky?

Nooooooooooooooo.

TTB is horrible. A ten person Michael Bolton sound.

Get away from soul music vocals.

Stick to Marin County swing and ditch all southern sounding schlock.

Michael Bolton? Lol.

Not my fav band, but they're OK.

Just think that would play to her stronger suit.

A horn band would be a great vehicle for her voice. It's good.

Slacker just lost all music critic cred.

Small ears, man.

i don't care for the ttb either...

Oh such big thanks, Dan and all.

Doing it on PNT - what could be better!

What is the Winwood song again?  (they killed it, but I'm totally drawing a blank)

Wonderful News!

Will be good to see you, BudBoy (busy as you will be).

They did Low Spark and another one in Eugene but I'm drawing a blank on that one.

It wasn't Rainmaker, either.

Pacific Natural Time.

^Pacific Nelson Time???

Yes, Johnny, Yes!

smileyheartsmiley

Of Course!

Molo looks like he's hittin' that.

I had so much fun last time CA Kind played TXR, I'm doubling back tomorrow. Pete sang a stellar version of John Barleycorn Must Die at that show.

John Barleycorn was the other Traffic song they did in Eugene. Thanks for the remind.

WoW...they  are really good when they jam, i get what you are saying judit ~

Sounds good, Thanks BB!!!

DNB is up and running.

This is great. Is this live? Sounds so good.

Yes, jammin' in the Grate Room at TxR right now.

Just a little Marin County rock coming from the heart of Marin County.

Wind & Rain

Peggy-O

They sound so much better with David!

The energy is there. That might be that they're at TXR, but I think it's more than that.

Yes, Bluelight, it's alive (live).

Sounds like a great time.

Got some midshow setbreak music en queue --

Fully Qualified Survivor
https://youtu.be/Qyp5OhDMRnw

-- Michael Chapman's third (?) album. Feat. Mick Ronson on guitar. Sounds good.

john molo is a great drummer thats fo sho

Covering the Hendrix is a good place to slide into for an encore.

Best to you out there, wild, western David Nelson folk. And all you Westies too. S'long.

I just got home from this show and I loved both sets of music that is for sure. A great crowd on a rainy night in Marin. I'm really glad I made it to this show!

one of these things is not like the others.

Great show(Both sets).

Great fun.

Great crowd.

And I made it home in 2 hours.

Gfish, did you listen?

Just woke up. Great show (streaming). Dunno if it's the tXr factor or the DN factor, but they were so much better than in Eugene. Full, thick, gooey sound and crisp playing and singing.

Viva la DNB!!!

Stream here was problematic for much of DNB set,  there was some issue w/ Mixlr server(s).  First set sounded fine.  Look forward to listening to DNB set in the near future. Thanks for streaming,  Mr. BudBoy !!

John Barleycorn wasn’t written by Traffic was it?

Nope - trad. English folk song with a ton of verses and versions.

Fantastic show in a great sounding room which was a treat after the boomy took at the JCC with all the PA issues!

>>>>>Nope - trad. English folk song with a ton of verses and versions.

That's what I thought.

Richard Thompson told me that song is the reason he quit Fairport Convention.

Set list?

Now let's wish for a restorative Hawaii run. ;)

I am feeling sooooooo good this morning.

Many thanks to EVERYONE who made last night so fantastic.

Great times!

Now let's wish for a restorative Hawaii run. ;)

California Kind should add Nelson to their  Jamaica gigs!

Great time last nite! I love everybody I know...

I came away with the feeling that if California Kind were an instrumental band, no vocals, I'd really get off on them. Skene's guitar was a good and integral part of the group, and Molo, Sless, Sears, Barraco can be so good, but the vocals interrupt the stream ~ they get out there but the vocals drop anchor... almost abruptly.

that was pretty much the exact feeling i got from the show last night too, judit.

katie's guitar was pretty good at times, many other times in the jams her sound was kinda lost in the mix, which was ok with me cause it was usually a nice sless-sears-molo jam that was drowning it out, but i got the feeling katie is more of a singer than an improvisor, and a small handful of times it seemed like the band would close out a jam right at the point when a DNB jam would really start to take off.

anyone have a setlist for last night's DNB set? i remember prisoner of freedom, wind and rain, peggy-o, cut and run, different world, wicked messenger and box of rain but i think im forgetting a couple songs.

as an addition to the katie discussion i think my favorite addition from her in the jams was her simple and melty slide guitar anchoring barry's solo. most of the time she was either drowned out or trying to get a little more complex, but the sweet spot for me was when she would settle on a chord or two and just provide some melty atmosphere.

Crowd shouting: where's Nelson?

Barraco: He's outside, parking cars

Me to Friend: OMG, I got to leave

Friend: Why?:

Me: Nelson may be in my car, he doesn't drive...

Long gone Sam

that setlist is missing The Eleven...

i think its missing the encore entirely....wasnt it a CA kind song(idk the name)>the eleven>Ca kind song, then david back out for box?

btw i heard barry doing quite a few other one teases i have never heard him play before, that was pretty neat

thx for the setlist photo zooey!

"Don't Let Me Down" is the tune that has "The Eleven" beat.

David drives. Just not to shows.

16Bit Flacs are up on the LMA.......24BIT Fileset is going up right now & will be ready in an hour or so..........Enjoy!

Thanks Danwink

You da man Dan! Thanks!

Great to see you guys last night.

Thanks Dan. It was great to talk with you & with Jan.

This is a great song!

16 Shells from a Thirty-Ought-Six (Tom Waits)

Plugged sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six
And the Black Crow snuck through a hole in the sky
So I spent all my buttons on an old pack mule
And I made me a ladder from a pawnshop marimba
And I leaned up against a dandelion tree
Leaned up against a dandelion tree
Leaned up against a dandelion tree

I'm gonna cook them feathers on a tiny spit
And I filled me a sachel full of old pig corn
And I beat me a billy from an old French horn
And I kicked that mule to the top of the tree
Kicked that mule to the top of the tree
Blew me a hole 'bout the size of a kickdrum
And I cut me a switch from a long branch elbow

I'm gonna whittle you into kindlin'
Black Crow, sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six
Whittle you into kindlin'
Black Crow sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six

Well, I slept in the holler of a dry creek bed
And I tore out the buckets from a red Corvette
Tore out the buckets from a red Corvette
Lionel and Dave and the Butcher made three
Well, you got to meet me by the knuckles of the skinnybone tree
With the strings of a Washburn stretched like a clothesline
Oh, you know me and that mule scrambled right through the hole
Me and that mule scrambled right through the hole

I'm gonna whittle you into kindlin'
Black Crow, sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six
Whittle you into kindlin'
Black Crow sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six

Now I hold him prisoner in a Washburn jail
That I strapped on the back of my old kick mule
Strapped him on the back of my old kick mule
Bang on the strings just to drive him crazy
Oh, I strum it loud to rattle his cage
Strum it loud just to rattle his cage
Strum it loud just to rattle his cage
Strum it loud just to rattle his cage

Oh, I'm gonna whittle you into kindlin'
Black Crow, sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six
Whittle you into kindlin'
Black Crow sixteen shells from a thirty-ought-six

Thanx for the linx!

This'll kill a third of my shift.

What a great treat to wake up to.

Thanks so much, BudBoy!
