The Days Between Festival (DNB Content)

just saw that.

seems molo would be there.

Also seems billy strings will not be there.

I would love to see Billy Strings sit in with DNB - LOL!

Zooey on the case

One of the many reasons I love you thank you and keep up the good work

What's a full moon Alice?   There is more?

Nevermind...

"Joining forces with the T Sisters and The New Chambers Brothers allows Full Moonalice to take audiences on a mind bending musical journey through the sounds of the 60s. This is the most fun any of us has had in years!" - Roger McNamee

In 2020 this cast of characters emerge as Full Moonalice: The THC Revue, the new incarnation of a staple in the live music scene, sharing what some would refer to as full on Variety Show on stages across the country. Don't miss out on the opportunity to catch this incredibly talented, heartwarming and highly entertaining act as they take their new show on the road

From the Days Between Fest link: Proof of a Covid-19 vaccine will be required to attend (12+).

I haven't been to Black Oak Ranch since the last Pignic in 2001. This line-up is making me think it's time for another visit.

now you're talking

I endorse this event...

Lets plan to assemble an impromptu WCZJ

Will you be baking a psychedelic cake wastlib?

It was cool to see you popping your cherry last Friday

Ha

It's been a Looooong Strange Days Between...

> Lets plan to assemble an impromptu WCZJ

This sounds like a great idea to me. LLOLLO?

I want to go to this. Sounds like heap big fun.

I'd be down for this too

You decide

David Nelson and Pete are rock legends and put DNB at the top of the pack IMO. Here's a multi camera soundboard video I filmed and edited from DNB in Hawaii last year.

https://youtu.be/L1dJW4RRqAc

Nothing against Darkstar they are a fine cover bandbut David Nelson is an original a musical wizard and a national treasure and Roger from moonalice is a American hero for the truth he speaks

I prefer classic jammy Moonalice to full sing-songy Moonalice. Back to the egg, guys.

Dylan chambers is cool

i love  cowbells

The overlapping triplets I could do without

WCZJ in camp in the afternoon before evening music, perhaps? I'm in!

WALSTIB can lead the coordination, he came up w/ this brilliant idea first.

Ill bring my paella kit.

I've never been a Moonalice fan. I watched a video of part of a Full Moonalice show a while back, and thought it was entertaining and not bad. I don't know whether I would enjoy that music for a complete set, but those T-Sisters are so adorable and easy on the eyes!

No word on whether Molo will be drumming for DNB for the Days Between gig, or if it will be Tony Leone or someone else. That info probably won't be available until closer to the show. I suppose the band is taking a wait and see approach, and leaving options open, which is reasonable.

WCZJ? I can play rudimentary chords on a keyboard, sing with limited range, and butcher a few Dylan, Dead, Band & Beatles songs.

^^One of those T sisters may be on maternity leave by then...

Man, am I ready to do this!

>>>>>One of those T sisters may be on maternity leave by then...Man, am I ready to do this!

Lol.

Is there any pricing info available yet for this fest?

oops, nevermind. the above link works. On FB, an incorrect website was posted.

((BBitL))

 Budboy

Just want to say... get a life

before it's over?!

:)

>>>I can play rudimentary chords on a keyboard, sing with limited range, and butcher a few Dylan, Dead, Band & Beatles songs<<<

Moonalice has a place for you!

And I think it's funny that MA has gotten to the point of, "I like old-school Moonalice better than the new version."

The rich guy must love that.

This event sounds like a party. You all enjoy now, ya' hear?

Does anyone know if DNB will play more than 1 set at this fest?

The DNB site lists this appearance as 8/7, so it looks like one day only. I would guess that means one longish set.

http://www.nelsonband.com/

See Everybody Soon Come !!smiley

1 long DNB set sounds right. Scheduled to go on at 7pm. Assuming DSO is headlining both nights, doing 2 sets and ending around midnight.

Moonalice site has them scheduled for 8/6.

Would it be correct to assume that Tony Leone will be the DNB drummer for the 8/7 show?

>>>I can play rudimentary chords on a keyboard, sing with limited range, and butcher a few Dylan, Dead, Band & Beatles songs<<<

Moonalice has a place for you! <<<

I don't do Whiter Shade Of Pale. Sorry.

thanks!

Wasn't Molo in the promo pic for this event?

they need to smooch and make up

Early birds gone at 11:01, didn't even get one.... not sure if I want to pay over $300 for this....

jeez.

Turtle did you get one?  This wasn't that well publicized... thinking that there were like 5 early birds available, LOL

I got an early bird.

Piece of cake compared to Phish!

no, i came in at 11:07.

making me debate it too llollo

its far, hot, and where's my drummer?

Good going Zooey... and sorry Turtle... $305 for 1 night of DNB?

I'm having second thoughts, will likely take a pass or look for a ticket at last minute.

well i like darkstar so there's that. + camping with friends is cool

True true... ok, I'll custie up.. not holding tickets for any other camping events this summer...

did anyone find out for certain if Molo is playing this date?

Ok got one! .... needed to make sure some other friends got in first.

Will definitely bring paella kit.

Hey LLOLLO, Perhaps you should post that question on the DNB Facebook fan group page? If you do, please wear a helmet, and don't tell them who sent you!

(yea, ain't I a stinker?)

I had a confirmed receipt and tickets in my mailbox by 1101

Piece of cake!

And I "woke up again" at 10:56

Piece of cake!

The page was live by 15 seconds after the hour and I doubt it took me 30 seconds

yo soy custie.

see you kids.

Swag delivery in person

Early birds were gone at 11:00.  How'd you get one Zooey?

I went ahead and paid the 305(including car pass).  I can and probably will drive home each night. Only couple hrs away.  Waiting on the schedule.

Soon Come Everybody !! Too Much Funn Club !!! I will Freak Freely !!coolsmiley

High, Mark! I was in an AXS waiting room for Phish Santa Barbara that was going on sale at the same time. I used the AXS timer, which was a few seconds off my computer clock, and was in and out of Eventbrite (already open in a second browser) in seconds.

I knew there would be very few early birds available, having been burned before.

got my earlybird tix. hey MR. TOFUHEAD, maybe this is our chance to debut Not Tuna, our new band

Not Tuna. Because nobody will ever mistaken us for Hot Tuna.

They might not mistaken us for musicians either, but we have a good time!

and no, we don't play any Hot Tuna songs.

BTW Jerry's Middle Finger just added to lineup

Let's get a good old fashioned list going for who will be in attaendance :

1) Redneck & BOTB

1) Redneck & BOTB

2)  LLOLLO

*If there's critical Zoner mass, Walstib and Inwere discussing that Zoners could meet up outside the venue in order to travel in together and be able to camp together.... and if people bring instruments, then an authentic Zoner jam at camp could be pretty fun.

My friend won the facebook contest (!) and I'm going as her plus one so I have one for sale at early bird face with whatever fees evenbrite charged me.

Drop a note at lsdesign2006@yahoo if interested

Dise

EMOTW...

Hi turts the show hasn't happened yet but it was great! Best show yet! :D

damn, I just bought a ticket to a fest that already happened...

bunk nugs

 Walstib. No backsies!

I was able to buy two Van Morrison tickets thanks to you and thanks to him running his mouth the wrong way about covid his show hasn't sold out.

I can sit through a bad Van song. I just hope he isn't..talkative

He usually never is on stage.

Turts

Will you be OK if a white cloud is back on stage?hmmm

huh?

well that's a silly question. he sure has been increasingly vocal during shows as his tenure went on.

his favorite song to play is Snakebit. that's what the man said.

He may be with the mighty DNB

That's all I'm saying

And God bless the David Nelson support system band and caregivers

caught three shows last week

precious moments

And also hooray for the smiling dedicated maniacs

And for Mr. David Nelson

Let's hope they can kiss and make up.

Because all the audio I've heard from this month is just

And God bless Mr. David Nelson

>Greetings Folks,

In accordance with the new California and Mendocino County COVID-19 event guidelines, we are making an update to our entry policy. We will now accept either proof of a vaccine at least two weeks from final dose OR proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival (for everyone over 12). Masks will be encouraged for all attendees and required for unvaccinated individuals. Our health experts have assured us making this change is quite safe under current circumstances. We will update our policies if things change between now and the festival.

Re-starting the roll call list!

I'm heading north on Thursday eve and will crash somewhere nearby to arrive when gates open at 8 or close to that time... hoping to get a spot near 2 trees for my new hammock.

If anyone doesn't have a Vehicle Pass yet and wants to carpool in w/ me, my email is in profile.  Due to my lame employer controlling my life, I wasn't able to return to Oregon for the paella kit or the rest of my festy camp gear, but I've got the minimum gear to make it work.

Here are the FAQs about the campground.. no showers... no saving spots w/ vehicles but throwing down a tarp or setting up a friend's tent is ok.   https://daysbetweenfest.com/faq/

Other info and schedule  > https://daysbetweenfest.com/info

If there is Zoner interest in a group site, we'd need to meet in LaytonVille and caravan in... I don't know LaytonVille, so not making a suggestion.

2)  LLOLLO

Update from fest organizers...

COVID-19 HEALTH & SAFETY UPDATE:
MASKS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL AND NEGATIVE TEST REQUIREMENT CHANGED TO 48 HOURS

Dear Days Between Family,

We have been closely watching the emerging spike of COVID-19 cases involving the more contagious Delta variant and also consulting with both the Mendocino County Health Officer and our own health advisors. Protecting you and our festival staff, and keeping live music and events like this happening for all of us, are our top priorities.

Vaccine or PCR Test. Everyone must arrive with evidence of either a COVID-19 vaccination completed two or more weeks prior to arrival OR the results of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of arrival.* We have shortened the testing window on advice from our health advisors. If this proves impossible due to travel or work, please contact us at [email protected]. Anyone unable to provide the above documentation will be denied entry. If you arrive with a positive test result or develop one during the festival, you and your party will be asked to leave immediately.

Masking and Distancing. We fully recognize that everyone wants to cast off the masks and dance with reckless abandon like we used to. Unfortunately, evidence from other outdoor and indoor events is showing it’s not safe to do that yet.

Our Mendocino County Health Officer is requesting and recommending masking and distancing when around other people outside of your home camp.

When eating at the Food Court, please sit with your own pod, family or campsite group.

Hand Washing and Sanitizing. Hand washing and sanitizer stations have been placed around the venue for your use. Please use them frequently. Frequent hand washing and sanitizing protects you, particularly after touching surfaces commonly touched by others: faucets, door handles, etc.

In the event that anyone feels sick in any way, please report to MARS Medical immediately (across from the food vendor area).

Finally, thank you for trusting us. For lovers of festivals and live music, as well as performers and folks whose livelihoods depend on live music, these last 18 months have been very difficult. We realize that these are really big “asks.” The Grateful Dead, the Hog Farm, and Shooting Star Events all owe a debt of gratitude to the way Bill Graham ran shows years ago. At the top of Bill’s list was taking care of people, taking care of performers, the workers, and the audience. In this time of heightened risk, we want to bring that tradition of care into everything that we are doing, share it and make it everyone’s responsibility to make sure we can Have Safe Fun.

Warmly,
The Days Between

i like that it's the hog farm people.

won't be a junkball meth fest.

I trust them to know how to do it right. Caring counts.

^^^^ the most!

The one time I visited Black Oak Ranch for a festival the liquid was immaculate.

^^^ must've been from Oregon ;)

The one time I visited Black Oak Ranch for a festival the liquid was immaculate.

Can confirm.

Hard to believe that was just about 20 years ago, Dise. I wish I could make the trip up there next weekend, but my summer class ends next Saturday, and I have to post final grades within 48 hours of the course end, so there's just no way I can do it.

^^^^ Oh I bet Zoners could troubleshoot a work-around, LOL.

What situation would delay the 48-hr requirement? ;)

I wish it could happen, LLOLLO, but I would need a rock-solid internet connection, a place to charge my laptop, and the desire to be working (answering last-minute student emails and grading essays and other assignments) instead of having fun. Even if I had the first two, the third is pretty much an insurmountable obstacle.

What, you don't want to delegate those responses to student emails to dosed festival goers?  laugh

I was thinking the dosed festival goers could grade the essays.

Hard to believe that was just about 20 years ago, Dise

IKR. That was some memorable liquid indeed. I took the longest pee of my entire life on that trip. I still have the pass Reisha made for me haha it actually got me backstage, but then again - the security guy was camped right next to us *shrug*.

Good time tripping amidst the redwoods no doubt. I think I still have my lammie stashed away somewhere too, and some amazing memories that haven't faded a bit yet.

Maybe I'll try the Queenie lammie out at the Billy Strings show coming up. It DOES have goats on it, you never know.

The recent GOAT thread reminds me of DNC every time I see it.

Hey, Dise, if you get a chance, could you shoot me an email? My address is in my profile. I think I owe you an long overdue apology.

give me a sec I'm derping it up here

LoLO-I was shopping for goodies last night and saw that La Tienda is having a paella photo contest and thought you'd crush it, especially if you've got photos from a hippie rugband festi (I didn't check the rules but you're a shoe in if the deadline is after next weekend!). $500 gift card buys a lot of sherry

https://www.tienda.com/paella-photo-contest-2021/

^^^ whoa, thanks Dise, will take a look at that on Sunday when I have a less busy day ahead.  i do have various cooking photos saved that Zoners and other friends have sent me.... and I'm out of amontillado! ;0

I was hoping you had lots of photos! You've got this yes

Hey Mike, I live 2-1/2 hrs from fest and will probably commute. You are welcome to stay here. I have extra bedrooms.

Hey, Mark. I really appreciate the offer, but this just doesn't seem like it's in the cards for me this time.

 >>>>>and I'm out of amontillado! ;0

I heard there's a cask somewhere, if they haven't bricked it in the wall yet.

^^^^ surfdead! Will i see you and Mrs Surfdead at this festy?

Magic 8-ball says probably not. Long way to go for one DNB set. It's gonna be hot and dusty.

Now if it was only a little closer, longer, and cooler...

By the way, I believe that is our own LlamaLlarry.

Good to see Wally.

That is indeed our Llary. Hi Mark.

^^^^  No, but I've been asking them questions about where to hang a camp hammock on Instagram and they have been responding!  I'm going to set up my tent near other Zoners if I can find them, and then will see if I can set up hammock in the Maple Grove for daily sound healing sessions  AKA, a place to nap. ;)

For this fest, there will be 1 large meadow for car camping + riverside camping--where some trees are--but you have to cart or pack your gear in to that area, as well as arrive at 8AM on Friday to get a chance at those spots.  There is good camping info on their website, too... URL in image above.

I have an Xtra for both Days with Parking pass. $200.00

Wally was really, really good Creative and flowing and on the beat!

Today's letter from the fest organizers:

Dear Days Between Family,

We are so excited to welcome you to The Days Between in just a few short days. The Grateful Dead community is known for taking care of one another. The need to take care of each other is even greater now than ever. Please help us keep our community safe by doing the following:

Bring your proof of vaccination at least two weeks from final dose or proof of negative PCR Covid-19 test taken within the past 48 hours (for everyone over age 12). Paper or digital evidence will be accepted. California vaccine records can be obtained here. If you need to be tested, click here for testing options.  Home tests will not be accepted. Please reply and let us know if you are having issues getting results back in time. We ask for patience and grace during the check in process.

Please mask and distance outside of your home campsite. There will be plenty of room to spread out. We know this is a tough ask and not what we all wanted, but we need to pull together and protect ourselves and our community. We can't wait to see all your beautiful masks!

Stay home if you feel sick. If you arrive with flu-like symptoms or a positive test result or develop one during the festival, you and your party will be asked to leave immediately. In the event you feel sick during the festival, please report to MARS Medical (across from the food court) immediately.

Please sanitize or wash your hands frequently. Hand washing and sanitizing stations have been placed in high touch areas for your use.

Hosting The Days Between has been a dream of ours for a long time. We are a small, independent festival and the artists, staff, and vendors that rely on festivals like ours for their livelihoods thank you for your support. We know this community can pull together to take care of one another and still Have Safe Fun.

In Gratitude,

The Days Between

As I've mentioned before, I'm traveling w/ minimal camp gear as the festy infrastructure kit (poles, tools, duct tape, tapestries, bungees, sun shelter pop-up, agricultural aluminium sun-block cloth, lights, cooking gear) is still in my Portland basement.

If anyone has some extra bungees or mountaineering cord that you could bring, please do, as I have a  large breathable grommeted floor cloth that I was thinking I could craft a shade shelter with by tying part of it to the roof rails of my wagon.  Trying not to run a bunch of errands down in the valley this week because I must be nose-to-the-computer until Thursday evening.

Hoping to buy my first Cali tapestry while there!

Community Fire Circle at 1AM has been cancelled, boo.

Streaming info for night 1 to benefit REX>
We are thrilled to announce we will be streaming LIVE for Daze Between 2021 for those who can’t make the trek to the ranch. All proceeds will go to help Rex Foundation meet their goal of $10,000,000 in grants written since the organization began in 1983.

Tune in on Friday, August 6th at 9pm PT for two sets of Dark Star Orchestra as we celebrate the music and memory of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead.
For more information, please visit www.dazebetween.com

I'm waffling today. The long drive, the heat, COVID, the short DNB set…Just doesn’t seem worth the risk.

Anybody need a cheap ticket?

Go Turtle Go!  Wjhat a kind offer.

Just curious, what kind of Dr. is Dr. Bacon?

Thanks, Turtle heart

I already cancelled my hotel, dog boarding, etc.

Know anybody who needs a ticket?

you can ask him in person llollo. he came to maui with me.

no i don't zooey. i can ask though.

LOL, Now I remember, Turtle.

Yay!!! Turts is going!!!!     Send me a text when you get camp setup. I will try and find you. (everybody, not just Turts. )

BOO!!! Zooey isn't.   Lots of folks canceling their plans and they only sold to 50% capacity in the first place.  Might just be wide open.  Outdoors.

And the weather is in a moderate cooling trend. Not supposed to get to 90 tomorrow and under a hun through the weekend. That is here, and it it usually a bit cooler in Laytonville.

Just for a little reference the Hog Farm canceled all their camp winarainbow camp out and events for the rest of the year. There are also plenty of young unvaccinated kids going from southern humboldt our rneighborhood where we are currently in and uptic in cases. Be safe out there

^^^ When you say "young unvaccinated kids" going, how old do you mean?
If they are old enough for the vaccine, they will need proof of that or a negative test to enter the property.

Hello team viva I have an extra ticket in parking pass available if you would like to donate a little bit to SEVA I'd be glad to give them to you

We will be there with bells on in the RV corral

king crimson tonight.   Whew!

That gig anywhere's near the fires ? Stay safe folks.

Thanks Ras.  According to this cool map, there are no fires close to the Hogfarm currently, which is about 30 minutes north of Willits on 101.

The SF Chronicle updates this map daily:

https://www.sfchronicle.com/projects/california-fire-map/

According to the NWS,  the winds are supposed to change tonight and blow the smoke from the three fires up north to the south. See Noodlers map in the August pics thread. Will probably be smokey until Monday sometime.

Had to go to work, The kids are 16 to 22 and word is, there might be fake vaccination cards going around. As I said be safe out there!

"Don't take the fake vaccination cards that are going around!"

Stream?

BSS, did you read the comments section on that link?  Not sure if it is hilarious, or just fucking sad.

Woke up in Willits!

Mendocino Redwoods RV resort has these cool bunk cabins that are far more affordable than a hotel room... BYOBedding.

Hung out on my cabin's porch swing when I arrived last night... cool spot, no neighbors since it's a weeknight.

If anyone needs cooler ice before going in, there's a 24-hr liquor store in LaytonVille on old Redwood Hwy called Park N Takeit.. just confirmed they have ice for $3.50/ bag.

Yes mark, the quips are why I posted it

Comments on that site are like a parallel universe zone

Hi Doc Ellis, always good to see you, Lurker.

^ Good news, thanks for the tip

We set out that night for the cold in the North
I gave him my blanket, he gave me his word
I said, where are we goin', he said we'd be back by the fourth
I said, that's the best news that I've ever heard

How is the smoke there, Llollo?   Socked in here but supposed to reverse tonight. Should be clear for tomorrow nights show.  I'm staying in today.

Outbreaks in other parts of the world don't mean it's everywhere all the time.

I survived going outside since March 2020.

Good Morning!  Full Moonalice and DSO replay from last night.

https://youtu.be/iVFkMP6arco

The Dark Star last night ran for more than 30 minutes. Must have blown some minds at the Ranch.

So how did it go?   You freeks have fun?

Looking forward to seeing some after-action reporting.

Seems somebody came to their senses

Large white clouds coming from behind the kit

all appears to be well again

Nice, I take that to mean Molo was in the house :-)

No YT videos of yesterday of DNB!

no photos... no videos... no setlists... not even a brief report from anyone in attendance

"because the Maniacs want to know..."

Smoky and muggy all day yesterday, but loved dancing big at the back of the bowl.  Bluebird sky this morn, but smoky again to the south in Willits.

Thanks to Zoner campmates... and maybe someone else will post a pic of the unofficial Zoner jam this morn at Walstib's shelter.

Excellent weekend all around, heading out from Willits to Ft Bragg to get some coastline in on the way home.

DSO highlights from last night include a couple of Allman tunes and also Kashmir.

any on-stage collaborations between members of DNB and DSO?

234175218_364643775060492_978516559914659219_n.jpg

No photos? No videos? No set lists? No thoughts? No reports or reviews of the bands and music? Were any of you really there?

IF YOU REMEMBER IT YOU WEREN'T THERE

Didn't take phone inside.... didn't keep set list... and no cell service for 3 days, kinda nice.
Before I had to build >unbuild>build campsite I shot a photo of Blaise's lot mart table... use your imagination. ;)

DNB set went by too quickly but featured most of the typical DNB favorites.

Full Moonalice played Coconut Wireless and yes, it was good to hear Molo's sticks.

Thanks, LLOLLO. I imagine there are others who will post when they get home or wherever.

^David and Goliath ?

Just getting up here. Drove home last night post show.

Pretty much a superb night all around. Hanging with a hundred of my best friends is always a hoot. And the music was off the charts. DNB was smok'n  of course good to see/hear Molo back.  David looked well.  JMF. WOW! I had not seen them in awhile.  Garret blows Stu away.  And I like Stu.   DSO was excellent also.

Gary you were missed by many.

Survived a tornado...

a festival first.

Yes!!!  ^^^    that was the breaking news... didn't see it but friends in RV who did said it was interesting happy hour entertainment to watch people's underwear and other personal items swirl up in the air... saw some mangled easy-ups when I walked through there later on...

...a DNB DUST-Nado

Cemetery of the Blessed Mangled EZY-Up...

nearly 40 degrees cooler when we hit the SF Fog belt

thank you Jesus Mother Nature

Great Festy Crew!

there's no cell service there. kept it in the car the whole time.

nie seeing everyone get down again.

VERY well ran event. Just a nice time, maybe needed more outhouses but other than that, they were mostly clean. no hassels, no cluster fucking. Hog Farm 1st class operation.

I don't really "like" festivals too much but this was great. HOT as F though..dusty and hot.

dso did a custom set the 1st night and was fun. They should've done the elective one the 2nd show...

DAVID NELSON BAND

what can you say? lift off was achieved. David did well, and PETE SEARS abuses his bass. MONSTER always, especially this show. Hope to see video, there was a guy.

rocky road, down the middle, fotd, peggy-o, long gone sam, moving right along, suite, fable....forgetting the rest. Nice to be able to dance how you feel without being restrained or confined. Plenty of space.

as always, so much going on at shows. not sure why people come and go multiple times while the band is playing, and/or want direct interaction with you...loud woman with horse voice interrupting peggy-o...older gentleman asked her to be quiet, she bellowed "ahhh do more drugs"...2 couples posted up blanket/picnic on right corner rail the whole day. they SAT, mostly during nelson set. in the dirt with freaking out dancing people and dirt...it was trippy. the little philipina gal prepared a whole melon during the set of gnarly psychedelic music, she turned around offered it to me and the crowd, i had to take a piece. she then takes cutting board away, goes and washes it off and brings back through the crowd, hilarious.

9-10 hr drive home. I slept well.

as far as covid goes, we'll see. really impossible to be hygienic in that situation...

lovely seeing and hanging with everyone. love you all.

Verizon worked fine for me.

That melon was a crenshaw and absolutely delicious.

What a blast.

Nice Read Turtle ! Thanks Again Rob and thanks Mark D

What a Blessing _________ DNB _______ Is Still Playing Shows !! heart

Anymore Vids Mark D ?

Any videos of the tornado?

Wow, Pete Sears goes bananas at the end of that friend of the devil!

A great, fun time. excellent music. This was one of the coolest, most easy going and well organized music festivals I ever attended. I've been avoiding music festivals for the past few years for various clusterfuck reasons, but this one had the right vibe and the right location, and everything was cool.

I enjoyed DNB, expecting pretty much what we got in a 90 minute ,1 set show when the band isn't playing gigs together regularly. Add Rainmaker to the set list that Turtle posted (but no rain), sandwiched inside Fable, and Wicked Messenger. The music was very good, though I found the momentum a little slow for most of their set, then it picked up towards the end, but it wasn't really a barn burner. Still, it was a good set, and i know that they could have done more if they had another set to get well greased, and let it all hang out.

After playing Wicked Messenger, David commented about what he thinks Dylan meant by the lyrics, and suggested that Dylan was writing about himself being the Wicked Messenger. He mentioned a few lines in the songs as examples. David spoke softly, so some of it was hard to hear over the noise of the crowd, and the subject matter seemed to be going over the heads of most of the audience, but I appreciated the Dylanology! I would love to smoke a few joints with David Nelson and chat about shit like this.

DSO was excellent, dynamic, fun! They gave me some major lift-off, and I had a blast doing Dead-aerobics on a grassy field with plenty of room to jump around and flail like a lunatic, without bumping into anyone. They recreated 11/20/1978 Cleveland Music Hall. I liked the 1st set better than 2nd, but perhaps fatigue was was a factor in the midnight hour, but we hung on to the end. Included several songs I don't hear too often live, like Stagger Lee and If I Had The World To Give. The 2nd set was weird, because at the original show Bob Weir got sick and was puking backstage, so the band opened the 2nd set with Jam > Drums > Jam - Jack A Roe without Bobby, who finally appeared for Playin'.

A pleasant surprise for me was Stu Allen & Friends. I knew they would be good, but expected them to play Dead & Jerry songs, and thought that would be kinda boring because there was already enough Dead/Jerry music at the festival with 2 sets of DSO each night, and Jerry's Middle Finger. But Stu & Friends knew the deal, and wisely only played a few Jerry & Merl and JGB songs. The rest of the set was an energetic mix of songs including a bluesy The Thrill Is Gone, Paul Simon's 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Dylan's One More Cup of Coffee, Allman Bros. Dreams & Led Zep Kashmir. The bass player plays in a John Kahn style very effectively, which I appreciate. Good shit. It rocked.

So, you missed out on the second best band there?   JMF blew Stu and friends away big time.

Good to hang with you and the mrs. Been a long time.

Hi Mark. Great to see you as well. I heard some of JMF, while walking to the camping area after 1:00 am. Tangled Up In Blue ooh ooh, Tangled Up In Blue!

Nice review Tofu, thanks for the effort.

>>>JMF blew Stu and friends away big time<<<

I wonder why it always has to come down to that?

THIS is so much better than THAT!!!!!!!

I'M RIGHT!!!!!!!!!

YOU'RE WRONG!!!!!!!!!

How about, "I enjoyed JMF much more than Stu and Friends."

Especially keeping in mind that Stu & Friends was likely a one-off band playing songs barely rehearsed, while JMF is a working regular band.

Just sayin'.

Glad you folks had a good time.

Carry on.

yeah, stu played  Dreams > Kashmir which was pretty much amazing. very well done.

JMF was a new surprise for me.

I'd catch them again...

JMF is the shit

played till like 2:15 am

and  features a former old zone zoner, seen them pretty often recently

I vouch

and zero persona insults!

^^^ thanks Garyfish!
Why isn't Molo playing the TXR show?

Drum Solo Interruptus

Some enterprising Zoner will find you the appropriate link, I'm sure.

>>>JMF is the shit<<<

I've seen them once and I liked them. It did seem to me that the guitar player was trying a bit too hard, looking to impress/blow away every moment instead of just surrendering to/flowing with the groove, but that could have just been that night, or the way I heard it that night.

I just get a little tired of everything always having to be THIS is better than THAT!

I mean, I get it, we all have preferences, but music isn't a competition. Unfortunately us humans always seem desperate to make everything a competition.

I have some theories about that, but I won't bore you all with them here.

>>>Why isn't Molo playing the TXR show<<<

Do we know that for sure? Are we taking that assumption based on the photo posted?

And especially with a 3:00pm start, I'd assume it will be a 2-set show.

But then, we all know what happens when we assume!

I guess you'll just have to put you money down, take your chances and...

GO TO THE SHOW!

Tofu, thanks for the review.  Glad you liked Stu and Friends as much as you did.  I agree, DSO put on 2 great shows, the venue was really well suited (esp. at half capacity), and the sound right behind the soundboard was stellar.

Mark, while you preferred JMF at Days Between, I would say that "and Friends" isn't Stu at his best.  And Lance, I would say not being a fixed lineup isn't an excuse for Stu in this case, as that particular quartet plays together enough that they've been given their own moniker:  The Fiercesome Foursome.  Jordan Feinstein on keys, Murph on bass, Ezra Lipp on drums.

I'm a big Stu fan and have seen him many, many times.  I prefer Stu Allen and Mars Hotel doing the GD material over anything else he does, in part because I prefer the GD songbook to the JGB songbook.  I especially like Murph and  Ezra, but Stu plays with many strong musicians.  The other Stu incarnation I've especially enjoyed is Ghosts of Electricity, all Dylan.  There are some very good recordings of GoE on Archive.  I've never warmed to Rock Collection.

Anyway, it was really good to be back among friends (we ended up with 6 cars camped together), great to hear that big live sound, and great to DANCE!  We were disappointed they switched their Covid policy to allow unvaccinated attendees, and we considered sitting this one out.  So glad I went!

I agree Tom(and Dave) that Garret seems to try a bit too hard. But he gets the job done.  And I was comparing what I heard from him with what I heard from Stu.  I am a Stu fan also. I just thought Garret was THAT good. And because Stu gets all the hype and a spot at main stage vs the "kiddy" stage, I thought the comparison was valid.

Big fan of GOE as well.

I did not hear that they changed their policy?  That might explain the larger than expected crowd.

Glad I went as well.

Great shots.

Real nice shots; thanks for sharing those, Noodler.

Anybody have any idea who does Nelson's tie dye polo shorts?

Pretty sure that one was done by a guy in NJ. Can't remember his name right now. I have several of his shirts.

Discuss: Do camp hammocks with straps and carabiners damage the trees?

I've read that trees communicate with each other through their mycelium and root networks (eg., cedar trees growing in rings)

It was strongly suggested to me by the fest crew supervisor last weekend that I not put up my hammock because the trees wouldn't be cool w/ that..... I chose not to challenge because I had already moved my tent twice and it was hot out, LOL.

I was speaking to David after the Iron Springs show, commented on his tie dye and told him he shouldn't have to wear a dye twice, he agreed and  said he had dozens of shirts given to him from artists...

oh that was what the trees were bitching to me about friday nite...

You guys are funny :-)

and I know a great local tie dye guy if anyone is looking for something special.

Mark, if you think of it, I'm interested. And the same goes for you, C-R. Does your guy have an Etsy or something?

200

Happy for those who enjoyed the Festival.

I have a couple of those shirts too, I think his name might be Andy? Got them on nrps tour probably 6-7 years ago.

Mike - http://earttiedye.com/index.htm from what I have seen handmade tie dyes selling for in CA, his prices are pretty low.

235876540_958351468355653_662923863757399523_n.jpgI have several.

Bump for Mike.

Is it a club?

^^^^ Who is going to apply name labels to everyone in that photo (except for the obvious celebrities: Phil, MarkD and GaryFish)?

I thought at first you meant like name labels for camp, LLOLLO.

I see Vorty (Dino English -- blue shirt, dead center) in that crowd photo above from the DB fest a couple weeks ago

Mark, you don't look all that moved by the music, with a nonchalant look and hands in pockets  cheeky

looks like that pic was taken during JMF's afternoon set on Satuday the 7th?

Thanks, Mark.

Yes Gary.   And I was way more into it than I appear.  Maybe zoning in on Lisa.

Robby and his gf, Trent, Allan Fox.  Not sure on other 3.

Who's hand is that? Is Phil coppin a feel in that photo?

IMG953041_0.png

And why is Ross Jame's father (top row left) and a George Porter impersonator (top row right) in the picture?

That neckbeard > tie dye look is pretty rad.

lol

also, looks like "Ross James' father" is coppin a feel on Phil's left shoulder

>Who is going to apply name labels to everyone in that photo<

Sorry LLOLLO, that would probably be an invasion of privacy. What we can do is let you listen to an audio recording of the photo session. For kicks you can match the quote to the person who said it. We'll mix them up to make it more challenging.

  • I just came by to collect my son Ross's last paycheck --- whatya mean he played for free?
  • Oh Phil (blush).
  • I hate tye dye.
  • Can you make an Amish shed outta hale bales and recycled vape pens?
  • I said, "Phil, Have you ever met a Zoner," not  "Did you ever get a...nevermind.
  • Does anyone know the real words to Aiko Aiko?
  • I need to get out of here, I just stole the keys to Phil's rv.
  • Do you think I can hypnotize the photographer by staring at him?
  • I never ever imagined my bentover ass would be 6 inches from Phil's crotch, Well maybe once... after the Cap Center Ripple.
  • Who left this rad bumblebee outfit in the dressing room?

Pretty funny Alan.

I think that is her hand not Phils.

Gary, I don't know, but I wonder where Robby's right hand is. Or yours.

Ross James' father. oh god.

Mark I hate to burst your bubble regarding the tawdy behavior of rock stars and consenting young women, but it's not all as innocent as cottencandy and puppy farts (two words: Bob Weir).

if you read Phil's book you would know he claims he perfected "the reach-around" in ninth grade band class in 1954.

If fact, the working title of the book, until Jill nixed it, was "Phil Lesh: Reaching for the Round."

So I'm going with, that's his hand.
