St. Stephen soundcheck...

Please get all the really corny stuff out of the way tonight, so I can get a Viola and maybe an 11 tomorrow.

Thanks, Bob.

Looks like they're keeping the new stage setup, so Bobby will be dancing between John and Oteil

(so much win!)

Still not started?

Hmm, shouldn't that be 6:30 PDT?

Rumors that the gates opened an hour late....

Bertha (soundcrew on lead feedback)

Interesting (or not) that they've switched Otiel & Chementi on stage.

That sort of thing doesn't usually happen during a tour. I wonder why?

Whatever, I can't listen to this as I'm on my way out the door to some bar in Livermore to hear yet another Grateful Dead "tribute" band, this one called Hardly Deadly, out of Stockton.

My oldest friend (buddies since we were 7 years old) is the bass player and I told him if they ever played closer than an hour to me I'd check them out, so I'm sort of obligated.

Sigh.

Enjoy your couches folks.

Yeah, Lance, I was just about to post about the stage switch.  They did it in New Mexico at the last show too.

Rumor is Bob wanted to interact with Oteil more, and Jeff's already barricaded behind the keys.  What I liked from the video of Iko, was how Jeff and John are now together, so they were riffing hard off each other, really got into it!

Deal

I think jm's teleprompter blinked..

9 song first set, pretty ripping solos between John and Jeff on Aiko (nice start).  Feedback issues in Bertha, and enough shipwrecks to have correctly named it "Lost" Sailor,  good times none the less!

The sound is big tonight, but the tempos (especially during the Sailor>Saint) have been a little tepid.

This Deal sounds alright.

Deal was not on the setlist.

You could hear Bob in the monitors during Saint: "lose the double time"

Set 2

The Weight

The Weight to open the 2nd Set is a somewhat odd choice.

This tempo is pretty glacial.  Maybe they're planning to take this into Stir It Up.

Looks like St Markus is getting his wish, snooooooooze.

The other St. just showed up.  There's a glimmer of hope here.

soundz gud

Yes indeed.

Some nice jams in SS and right now, post WT.

Good pics, Noodler!

Nice to hear these guys get in the zone.

That was a great finish once they got through the Terrapin.

Listening to Black Peter I was a little worried that it was so slow they were going to fall over, ala Tyrone F. Horneigh. I guess they didn't.

Astro, I think it's 10, there's an upright to the left of the 0.

I really enjoyed that show! A few mix ups in the first set at end of Sailor and Deal but I still really liked the song selection. I thought the whole second set was very tight and some really good jamming. I like the interplay between Mayer and Chimenti.

Had a great time! There's just no comparison to being there. There was an interesting lyrical theme that weaved in and out. A lot of images of desperation and mistrust and uncertainty in both sets.  Then toward the end Throwing Stones, Liberty, US Blues. More overt references.

I think tomorrow will bring resolution and hope.

It's been a big day. Good night..

Couple of notes about yesterday. Cops, lots of cops. Cops with big, powerful rifles inside the venue.

Lights. It never got dark in the venue because the end zone boards were lit up with Deadco logos.

Somebody made the call to keep a close eye on things.

Soundcheck was long, doors opened late, many were late getting in.

Metal wanding in full force.

Parking on campus is $30. Get there early and park on the Hill.

Throwing Stones, Liberty > US Blues.

Speaks volumes...

Be safe people.

looooooooooong line to get in but show also started 40 minutes late. I'm getting there earlier today. staff and entrances were poorly organized. One entrance empty the other a mile long....Hopefully they are more organized tonight

And if you have a purse, you can only go in lines 3 or 4, because apparently only they have the special training needed to check purses.

That was some pretty fierce jamming pre-drums last night during the St. Stephen>William Tell Bridge>Eleven.  The vocals were real strong too.  Bob was having a good night.  Much more upbeat Throwin' Stones than that last 1st Set one they played.  The Liberty>U.S. Blues combo had some bite too.  I think I'm almost used to Weir's spaced-out take on U.S. Blues.  That was the best they've played since Eugene.

Lots of goods left in the wheelhouse for tonight's tour finale.
