I was planning to take my wife down to shoreline to see dead co on my birthday. Skunked again, but you can buy section 100 tickets on live nations "resale" section for $750 to $1,740 per ticket. sorry state of affairs
why the fuck are they so expensive? $2-300 for the furthest section back at SPAC, not including the lawn. The way they over sold the lawn there last year, & how lack of volume up there was ridiculous. Hope some of those promo codes pop up again, got decent $70-100 Fenway tix last time for 25 a pop. Overall the Clapton tix for MSG 3/19&20 are cheaper.
In fact it's a totally rockin' band that (mostly) does justice to the GD catalog..
but if you want to know why tickets are so expensive.. it's owed greatly in part to the fact that Mayer is a big star in his own right- so he demands a bigger pay check.
Stubhub day of most shows face or below. Same as it has been since these crazy ass tix prices.
Just checked the other day for a show and they had 7 different presales for various companies before they went on sale to the public. Guessing this might have something to do with ticket availability.
I really don't know. Just guessing.
And it's not just a deadco thing either. Happens for sporting events and a ton of other entertainment.
Sell most of the crappy seats first in the pre sales and regular onsale date.
Whether it is or not, they'll announce the show is 'sold out'. Now prices on the secondary market inflate - even if they're still available on TM or wherever.
A few weeks before the show, release the better seats, then the unsold vip seats. Now the secondary market crashes.
By showtime, secondary market tickets will be 30 - 70% lower.
Yes, this model does seem to give scalpers a bath in the end, nevertheless, it's easy for the band/promoters to make extra money on the secondary market when they control the ebb-and-flow of sales.
Ask Shappy, or Live Nation. Anyone who went through the FTW Santa Clara ticket debalcle will understand. Exact same thing done for McCartney last spring.
Of course, there are exceptions - like The Stones in San Diego last year where they used MLB ticketing with no bot check, and secondary market was flooded, asking triple right up until showtime and folks custied up. When they did release a few hundred 'obstructed view' tickets a day or two before the show, 90% of them were on Stubhub immediately afterwards.
In addition, the creeping effect of putting shows on sale 6+ months ahead of time is getting out of hand and will be hard to stop as these folks (industry) fight for or entertainment dollars.
Dating myself, but grew up in Albany, NY so SPAC was my 25 minute up the road venue. We would eagerly wait for early May when they would announce their entire summer schedule at once.
Today, they probably sold upwards of 10k tickets today for D&C @ SPAC and conservatively took in $1M 6+ months before the show! That money earns somebody interest being in there pocket and not ours. Multiply that times all of these shows.
It pushes the race to announce on others as well. Lockn announces lineup 8+ months out. Wilco's festival in MA went on sale today as well. Draining alot of accounts!
Sidebar: Have seen Dead & Co. 8+ times starting with their very 1st show in Albany where I was not wildly impressed and went in with a poor attitude as well. With complete objectivity, they have gotten better and better with each show. Oteil brings it. Chimenti always brings it as well. Drummers are the drummers, have deep respect, but honestly not as pumped past the first shows "drums" section (gotten used to Phil and Bob's own gigs without as well as Furthurs). Would take Russo or Molo in that spot, especially if they could push Bob on tempo on occasion :). Weir has been playing "claritan clear" ever since his fall down at the Cap. Tempo is what it is. Mayer has my respect for the dedication, effort and talent he's put in and brought. Very strong player, but not necessarily breaking any new ground. Honestly, I don't need new ground broken. I need solid playing surrounded by good friends. Getting that, so all good!
Fools actually paying this kind of geld to see this crap?
When will it all end?
Let's see - no ticket stub but I remember a $17 price for the Kaiser in 86 ....for the REAL DEAL.
f**k!
Less than $10 for me. Today's so called older hippies are much worse than the old folks they put down in the 60's. Much more materialistic and into living the good life. Total hypocrites from their younger selves. I'm sure the would kick their older asses if they knew what they would become in the future.
I watched some Dead on the you tubes and the only person who seems genuinely interested in playing is Mayer. The Dead mates all appear to be half asleep.
I was as big a skeptic as anyone when DeadCo lineup w Mayer was announced last year. I thought wtf Katy Perrys boyfriend are you fucking kidding me! Not to mention not being a phan of his music at all.
Well ll boy was I wrong! This band does justice to the music. Mayer seems to take both the music and more importantly the community very seriously and is quite gracious about it and I like em a lot. I saw Vegas , Irvine and Chula Vista and truly enjoyed all of these shows.
Haters gonna hate and those with an open mind will stop being confused and listen to the music play!!
Due to overwhelming demand they added a 2nd Hollywood bowl show...me thinks a 2nd show was always in da cards but the shock and awe value of overwhelming demand sounds better....Shapiro did the same thing w the Phil Central Park shows a couple years ago..seems to be the way to do bizness these days..
Didn't Shappy only have a big contract with Phil only??? I'm thinking Shappy didn't book most of these shows? I could be wrong. I told you all about the presale too! That was easy breezy, and all of my friends who wanted face value Wrigley Tickets, or Shoreline Tickets got them. Jus' Sayin.....either way just wait it out, and if you need tickets coming up by the show, you'll find some trhrough true friends and true deadheads.....remember if your supposed to be there, you will be (~);-)
Shapiro didn't book any of these shows...Irving Azoff did...but some peeps on the zone believe Shapiro is the devil and good old Irv is bringing da music to the masses in a reasonable and deadhead friendly way...highlarious...
