In defense of Wave to the Wind.

Forums:

1. Phil singing. Always a pleasure.

2. The song was evolving in the right direction. In another time and space, it may have gotten there.

3. The jam was often quite tasty.

Never made it onstage w/Phil & Friends, Childhood's End got 3 plays, Shoe Fits also did not make the cut.

>>>Never made it onstage w/Phil & Friends<<<

That should tell you who your defense is arguing with.

Apparently, the guy who wrote it didn't like it.

Neither did I.

Meh. The lyrics were nothing special, and the tune wandered around without really getting anywhere.

You can stash it with Day Job and Money Money.

I thought Childhoods End was lovely

Revolutionary Hamstrung Blues

Gonna wave, gonna wave
Gonna wave to the wind
Gonna wave my way
My way on through the wind
Gonna wave, gonna wave
Gonna wave to the wind
Gonna wave my way to
Places I never have been

the next verses are, well, somewhat more lame (sorry Hunter)

^ I like Phil's shirt

Yeah, not the best Phil song, but it was fun hearing him play it in the Grateful Dead.

Wave To The Wind>
Pissing In The Wind

OK... In the minority here.  I like this song,

Which is something'bout a thang that came & went. (The new millennium
Reeling round the bend).  Which offers a palatable reason the song never made it past 1999.

IMHO this part (below) is both well written & well delivered:

Wave away my confusion
That drives this delusion
So long I forgot that I could fly
Soar aloft like a songbird
Dancing in the wind
Singing long, singing loud, singing high

From Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale NY (3/13/92) Rippin'!

I was never a fan of Day Job, but it's far superior to WTTW, both musically and lyrically, and Money Money beats it too.

Yup.

Walk in the Sunshine>Day Job>Money Money>WTTW

Where does France fit in?

Love love love it

NYC Dave

YES!!!

Gonna wave to the curious Zoners
Looking on from the side of
The road as I'm rolling on by
Wave goodbye to the trouble
That's always on my mind
Gonna jump-start my life
Or go down trying

most appropo to my current life sitch

>>>>Phil singing. Always a pleasure.

I may be on the outs on this board,  one but strongly disagree.

WE WANT PHIL! LET PHIL SING!

That chant started when only Box and Tom Thumbs were being sung - I support his singing on those.

Pride of Cucamonga

Unbroken Chain

Broken Arrow

Why Don't We Do It In The Road?

Last verse of Maggie's Farm.

"They say, sing while you slave and I'll just get bored."

In addition to Wave to the Wind, other post 1985 Grateful Dead songs Phil helped sing include:

Box of Rain

Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues

Broken Arrow

Childhood's End

If The Shoe Fits

Unbroken Chain

Gimme Some Lovin

Keep On Growing

Why Don't We Do It In The Road

Tons of Steel

The Weight

Maggie's Farm
