Denny Laine & the Cryers with Steve Holley

Forums:

I spent a wonderful afternoon (to evening) at Rockout 8 (a benefit for St. Mary’s Food Pantry) at the Boulton Center in Bayshore, Long Island, NY.

The featured performers were Denny Laine (lead guitarist from Paul McCartney & Wings - Moody Blues) & Steve Holley (drummer from the Wings & Ian Hunter)

Denny is a legendary part of Rock & Roll history rode shotgun with Paul for over 25 years.

Steve Holley has been a top-flight rock drummer for over 40 years and is still an integral part of Ian Hunter's music as member his Rant Band.

Denny Laine was founding member of the Moody Blues back in 1965 when they were a great blues band, not a pop band.

It was a day/night filled with stories partying with Paul, John Lennon,  Steve Holley, and the Moody Blues.

The Cryers rocked out most of the first Moody Blues album "The Magnificent Moody Blues" & many Wings songs.

It was a special night, celebrated my fathers 89th birthday.

The videos are fun and sound good, but at the very end of "Band on the Run" Denny Laine asks the crowd to stand up & we do, so there a tiny bump there.

Wow Bluelight!  I felt like I saw the whole show, great job. I am just sitting here waiting for the rain to start, a nice way to waste some time or half the day yes

Happy Birthday to your father, may we all still be rocking at his age.

good stuff...always liked Laine...

echo the HBD, DAD, sentiment

Thank you very much Bart! I will convey the Rockin' Wishes guys.

It's cold & raining here right now.  London like.

I was wrong more like 12 years of "Rocking & Rolling All Over God's World"

Ive met Denny a few times, he really is a great cat.

Wow. Nice. I just saw your post^

I would love to meet Denny.  It was an afternoon show that had to come to a close (for dinner after rocking for over 3 hours, with a n opening act)

If you check out my "Band On the Run" video up there, he's saying his farewells. I split, thinking he was too.

Great photo.

Taken in the basement of the beautiful Landmark Theater in Syracuse a couple of years ago. When my buddy took that pic, we had been talking about his upcoming rehearsals for SUNY Fredonias' production of his "Arctic Song"  suite. I told him how much I loved Ghost of the Scrimshaw Carver. He was beaming about it, signed my old copy of Ahh, Laine and Wings Over America box for me and seemed genuinely happy to be talking about things other then his relationship with Paul for a minute!

here is a video from later that night with the local Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band , thats Hilton Valentine from the Animals to Dennys' right:

I (my bro, actually) had a copy of that Moody Blues album with Go Now on it.

I think the master recording of that tune is over-modulated.

I used to think it was our copy (old, played on shitty gear, mostly), but after hearing other sources, I'm pretty sure the needle was in the red in some spots.

Did you know?

The song “Penny Lane” was originally a love song that Paul had written to guitarist Denny Laine, but Paul went and changed the lyrics as to not upset his fiancée at the time, Jane Asher.
