I've got friends who moved to Castle Rock outside Denver couple of years ago and it's time for a visit. I've only been to CO once before and that was a while back (as in 1987 for 3 GD RR and 2 Telluride). Since I'm doing Peach, and String Cheese at Red Rocks is the same weekend, that timeframe is out. Are there any other music or other events I might be able to wrap into my visit? Any suggestions on "must do's" while I'm there (including strain sampling)? Likely be in for 5-7 days.

The time frame is open and
The time frame is open and dependent on my schedule, as well as my hosts. Sometime May through Sept, with exception of commitments for Deadco 6/1-2, Bromberg Big Noise 6/8-9, Peach 7/18-23, Phish 8/11-12. I peeked at Nedfest in late August and it looks like a small low key but quality fest.

Great Sand Dunes is 4+ hours
Great Sand Dunes is 4+ hours from Denver. That said, you could hit the Cottonwood and/or Mt Princeton Hot Springs in Buena Vista on the way there. Maybe stay in Salida, one of CO's true gems.

My apologies. I took some day
My apologies. I took some night time cold medicine during the day and got loopy and then crashed.
Neds suggestion is good. Cottonwood hot springs and the Presidential range is beautiful in September.
Garden of the Gods is not far from Castle Rock.
You could also drive up Mount Evans Rd.
